Well Time marches on. Classes over. Grades still due. I hate grading!Crits with Jarrod and Erin on Friday. Both will be in the Texas Biennial coming up next year.Swam both Friday and Saturday. Cold weather but warm water. Cold, cloudy and wet today so no pool time.Friday evening went to Pepe's home for wine and cheese with italy folk and P's friends. Then got Dan to drive to late night art and band party at Jamie and Kurt's. Good bands and crowd. Danced around. Left and got home at 2AM, wee.Saturday, well I slept late. Did things like mail slides, pay bills, sweep leaves, wash clothes, clean house, shop, swam, visited CRL craziness and thought/looked at painting. Dan had a good observation that need investigation. Sunday. Wet outside, dreary, stayed in bed for longer than necessary. NYTimes and tea. Then long time in studio on painting. Progress?Getting in a winter break mood rented two video's. Finally found The City of Lost Children at Vulcan. Also picked out La Strada hoping the Italian with sub titles will help me make more baby steps into the language.Supposed to be warmer and sunny tomorrow afternoon. Hope so.Tags: classes, crits, painting, parties, videosCurrent Mood: hereCurrent Music: erika.net - Charles Mingus - Big Alice

Busy It's been Long, Hot Summer (1958) so I watched the film staring Paul Newman the other night. I couldn't remember if I'd seen it before but I had. Good flick about the old south. Not much time for movies as Fall duties begin again.Got through the first week of classes. I think I have a good class. They seem to like me and each other and are working well. Also got the three grad and one undergrad independent study meeting times scheduled for once a week. Set Monday as my studio day. No school or meetings on that day. So able to get to painting at least Saturday through Monday with some Fridays thrown in. No way to get time on teaching days. Wednesdays is my office day and a time to set up meeting and do my foundation director duties.Been able to get to the aquatic center after class and office days for swims. That has gotten crowded all lanes need to be shared. Four openings tomorrow. Kenneth Hale at Slugfest, Faculty Exhibition at CRL, Video performance at Okay Mountain, Eric Zimmerman at Art Palace. Oh, and there is going to be some kind of football game between number one and number two at about the same time all the art events are going on. Busy town, busy time. And tonight Daniel Bozhkov at Arthouse.Painting is doing something in the studio today.Tags: art, classes, film, football, openings, painting, schoolCurrent Mood: busyCurrent Music: WFMU - Funky Family - Part Of My Life

Catch up Watched the film Breakdown on Tuesday night. Surprisingly good flick. Action, suspense southern culture weirdness. No film last night. Came home exhausted and only watched a bit of the CNN news which I have now forgotten. Didn't get swim after a long day. Not enough sleep the night before. Should be getting to sleep at 9 the day before teaching but that is easier said than done. Both of my classes are hard at work. I really put the drawing students through a work out doing many drawings of 2x2' cubes, working on measuring and sighting devices in order to fight the tendency to tip the top plane more upright than it is. Fighting our normal conceptual model of how things appear. Breaking that down by showing our mind that it is wrong by more scientific measurements. Went through stone processing in litho. Printing demo next Monday. Their self portrait drawings are coming along.Too much happening these next three days. Must choose which ones to attend since they all seem to overlap.Any who, more painting this morning. This one is nearly to a good stopping point, I hope.Need to purchase dry ice, twenty ice cream bars and wine for italy reunion potluck tonight.Tags: classes, italy, movie, paintingCurrent Mood: good enough for real timeCurrent Music: WFMU: "el toro remixed by mark de clive-lowe" by chico hamilton
