break time, drive time I've been painting and driving and looking and relaxing.Drove to Dallas with paintings on Thursday in a black new Grand Prix courtesy of the local car rental office that had to give me an upgrade since they didn't have the economy model I had reserved. Two hundred miles plus later I got to Conduit soon after noon. Unloaded paintings, talked with Nancy and Danette and viewed the four shows there. Lance and I are up next. Sushi lunch courtesy of Nancy. Off to Gerald Peter's Galleries to view Bale Creek Allen's. Good stuff and good sales. Then off to the Fast Forward exhibit at the DMOA. Amazing contemporary collections coming that museum's way. I'll be back to Dallas in a dozen days for my opening there. Then off to the hotel, it's pool and bar for the night.Next day off early to Fort Worth and got there a bit before the 10AM entranced opening at the Frt. Worth Modern. Two great shows there. Pretty Baby which included a room sized installation by Margaret Meehan that looked great among the other rather creepy images of youngsters. Then there were the strange drawing in the Focus section of Ralf Ziervogel which carried the warning sign The works in this exhibition contain violent and sexually explicit imagery. Viewer discretion is advised.. One section of the Pretty baby show had the same warning. Kimball unfortunately didn't open on Fridays so missed my chance this trip to view some of my favorite early paintings.Got back to Austin by 3 and very glad not to do any more driving. Film's watched since, Friday was Sur mes lèvres (Read My Lips) which I highly recommend. Then last night watched a very cheesy horror film: The Nail Gun Massacre that was on the staff recommended shelf at Vulcan but doesn't get my recommendation.Sunday now, tired of WFMU marathon, glad it is the last day. Need to get to paintings as I won't be able to get to my studio for a week after today. School stuff and then off to Kansas City and the SGC conference.Tags: art, dallas, driving, film, museums, paintingCurrent Mood: good enufCurrent Music: WFMU - an archived program of Irwin's

Dallas After driving to Fort Worth yesterday KH and I went to look at the Anselm Kiefer exhibition at Modern. I'm not a big fan of his but his work is exceptionally impressive. I don't know enough about German history (though I am through reading Landscape and Memory and I do not know about all the mythic allegories he is playing with. Scale, materiality and just plain presence urge his work to be important. I could not keep from wondering as a former art handler, mover and installer what a huge endeavor the stuff was to get there and then from there moving on to its other venues.Picasso's Vollard Suite was also on display. Man that guy had a way with figurative line.Stopped by William Campbell Gallery where K dropped off some collages and then off to Dallas and Conduit Gallery. NW there was very enthusiastic about the painting I brought with me for her to see. She asked about when we could have an exhibition of the paintings but I want her to come down to Austin and look at the others and figure our when. I need to get to it now I guess. No excuses. Grounded four new canvases tonight.Last night we checked into the Adolphus Hotel for the night in Dallas that K had reservations at. What a place. We didn't fit into the dress code for the fine French dinning, but what the hell. I had a great time drinking scotch and listening to the piano players in the main area. _A baroque masterpiece infused with classic European charm, The Adolphus was the vision of beer baron Adolphus Bush. An icon of Edwardian opulence, the hotel helped transform Dallas into a world-class destination with its museum collection of artwork, including Flemish tapestries, Louis XV chairs and a Victorian Steinway once owned by the Guggenheims._Unfortunately what pretended to be an Italian restaurant around the corner downtown served me something that night that cause problems that echoed the purging activity that I went through a week ago. We got back to Austin OK after leaving this morning. I went to Vulcan and rented (free this time) what I hope are part of a new season I haven't seen of OzTags: dallas, food poisoning, ft. worth, hotels, museumsCurrent Mood: hmmCurrent Music: erika.net - Lightnin' Rod - Four Bitches Is What I Got
