Five Day weekend Finally, time to do other things. After studio time on TG, dinner with Lawrence and Grace and her fellow worker, forget her name. CRS again.Friday, more painting, swim again at Stacy. Closer than school, heated, community of people there as opposed to aquatic at UT.Saturday, off early. Looked at drawing on stone. It was a bad as I remembered so grained it off and started another. Moved on rolling cart to my office. Then went swimming at aquatic and left to find a parking ticket on my windshield. Lot was nearly empty and the signs where a bit confusing. I'm protesting the 50 buck charge. We'll see how that goes. Then stopped by the Austin Museum of Art to see the Radical NY exhibition. Lots of work hung salon style. Most small, but good to see real pieces I'd only seen from artists in repro having been on the west coast during the time period covered. Then stopped at Volitant where I noticed Arturo was selling his soul for a bundle. Some other good things curated by Leona. Kind of sexy, like a lot of things they show. Home to finish reading Chromophobia by David Batchelor, lent from Luaane. Not sure what to think about that. Sunday, today. Thought I would fix a couple things in my painting and ended up repainting most of it. Iteration 3. Cleaned house, wrapped up some recent paintings to bring to photographer, mopped floors, read NYTimes, swept leaves, did plant stuff, paid bills and went swimming at Stacy again. AMOA crowd was money rich, artist poor (at least in attendance). But of course it was members only and at least this opening they hadn't even sent announcements to art faculty. Art Palace and Okay Mountain folks must have been on the guest list.As I guessed William Kentridge's film would be in the far back end of the museum. Mary Lee Bendolph, Gee’s Bend Quilts, and Beyond in the main gallery shined.Volitant's crowd was younger, poorer? and artist in fuller attendance. Back Home from weekend trip to SoCal. Saw Phillip at Cherry Martin who pointed me to the galleries popping up in Culver City. Strange as they are just around the corner from where I worked at LA Packing and Crating back in the day.Fun at sheppardzo_14's house with Wiley Coyote and a cool pool. Is it oven hot all over. Triple digits there, same here in Austin.Saw Dennis Hopper show at Ace, stopped by Solway Jones to say hello and cruised the other galleries on the Miracle Mile before seeing Richard Pousette-Dart, Works on Paper at LACMA. Wished for more of his paintings. Oh and there was a Hockney portrait show to. Weak, crack brain idea about old masters couldn't really draw and that Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres must have used optical devices. Ha, look at Hockney's sausage fingers when he draws with the optical aids. Then look at the hands in a Ingres portrait. Many first year art students in my classes can draw better than the has been Hockney.Drawing exhibition at Daniel Weinberg was amazing in the company I kept on the wall. noticed just now that the title of the show was changed from "Pulp Fiction" to "Block Party". Chatted with Daniel. Former gras Phillip and Portia came. Same with old friends Anthony and Wes. Spent a good deal of time with Jeri and gave her a napkin drawing and drawing on stone for Ed.I've got a weird infection on my left leg from Nohegan swimming. Got Rx from Dr. Last week but they did not do anything for it. Visiting his office this afternoon in hopes of getting something to take care of the problem.Good visit with Sis and he family. Took them to eat breakfast at the Long Beach Museum of Art's cafe. Enjoyed the outdoor view of the ocean, queen mary and the oil islands. Bro in law drove us around old neighborhoods of LB and down the coast. Afterwards I drove to CSULB my alma and checked out the new art building. Printmaking was locked up but view in the windows showed it to be a big improvement.Back to painting this morning. Drawing too. After seeing all the drawings at Weinberg makes me want to get back in a graphite groove along with the oil paintings. Forecast for my neighborhood say 104º this afternoon. Studio will be steaming.
