The aim of this study was to enhance the understanding of young girls’ experiences of peer sexual harassment in elementary school and of normalizing processes of school-related sexualized violence. Six focus group interviews with girls in Grade 1 through 6 were carried out in an elementary school in the northern part of Sweden. A content analyses showed that young girls experienced verbal, nonverbal, and sexual assault behaviors at school. Sexual harassment as a concealed phenomenon and manifest within a romantic discourse were themes found in the analysis. A conclusion is that schools have to acknowledge behaviors related to sexual harassment as a potential problem even in young ages and develop methods to approach the subject also for this age group.

Want to demonstrate factors which effect appearance and severity of lumbosacral radiculopathy. We analysed 100 electromyoneurographically examined patients. Patients were categorised on bases of their BMI (body mass index), sex, age, job type (physical or intellectual job), and chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension and hyperlipidemia). Data were evaluated using the chi2 test with the significance of p < 0.05. Obese patients had severe radiculopathy more often than non-obese patients (p < 0.044). Severe radiculopathy appeared more frequently in male (p < 0.001), elderly patients (p < 0.023), and patients doing physically intensive jobs (p < 0.002). No statistic significance was found in relationship between patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, and the severity of lumbosacral radiculopathy. Obese patients, males, elderly patients, and patients doing physically intensive jobs are at a bigger risk of su...

Background There are limited data on the epidemiology of adolescent soccer injury across all levels of play. Hypothesis Through implementation and validation of an injury surveillance system in adolescent soccer, risk factors for injury will be identified. Study Design Descriptive epidemiology study. Methods The study population was a random sample of 21 adolescent soccer teams (ages 12-18). A certified athletic therapist completed preseason baseline measurements and did weekly assessments of any identified soccer injury. The injury definition included any injury occurring in soccer that resulted in 1 or more of the following: medical attention, the inability to complete a session, or missing a subsequent session. Results Based on completeness of data in addition to validity of time loss, this method of surveillance has proven to be effective. The overall injury rate during the regular season was 5.59 injuries per 1000 player hours (95% confidence interval, 4.42-6.97). Soccer injury...

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which gender, age, skill level, and years of practice serve as predictors of coping styles in judo. Participants in the study consisted of 98 judo competitors (47 females and 51 males, aged 13–21 years). As a result of the agglomerative hierarchical cluster analysis four coping styles have been established for the Brief COPE inventory in approach–avoidance and cognitive–behavioral dimensions, with dominant approach coping style. The standard multiple regression analysis indicated ...

Children's causal attributions about childhood mental health problems were examined in a national sample for prevalence; relative stigmatization; variation by age, race and ethnicity, and gender; and self-report of a diagnosis of depression or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A national sample of 1,091 children were randomly assigned to read vignettes about a peer with depression, ADHD, or asthma and respond to an online survey. Causal attributions and social distance were assessed, and correlations were examined. Logistic regression models for each causal item tested main effects and interaction terms for conditions, demographic characteristics, and self-reported diagnosis. The beliefs that parenting, substance abuse, and low effort caused the condition were all strongly intercorrelated and were moderately correlated with social distance. The depression condition was the strongest predictor of endorsement of the most stigmatizing causal beliefs. Stigmatizing cau...

This paper describes our participation at PAN 2014 author profiling task. Our idea was to define, develop and evaluate a simple machine learning classifier able to guess the gender and the age of a given user based on his/her texts, which could become part of the solution portfolio of the company. We were interested in finding not the best possible classifier that achieves the highest accuracy, but to find the optimum balance between performance and throughput using the most simple strategy and less dependent of external systems. Results show that our software using Naive Bayes Multinomial with a term vector model representation of the text is ranked quite well among the rest of participants in terms of accuracy.

The Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) has initiated multi-modal level-of-service (LOS) methodologies, including that for the bicycle travel mode. It has already adopted a bicycle LOS methodology for the roadway segment portion of the transportation network, the Bicycle Level of Service Model. Florida DOT’s ultimate goal is to develop corridor- and facilities-level LOS methodologies. Toward that goal, Florida DOT sponsored research to develop the first part of an intersection bicycle LOS methodology, the Intersection LOS for the bicycle through movement. This Intersection LOS for the bicycle through movement would provide a measure of the level of safety and comfort experienced by bicyclists riding through an intersection. The Intersection LOS model for the bicycle through movement is based on Pearson correlation analyses and stepwise regression modeling of approximately 1,000 combined real-time perceptions from bicyclists traveling a course through a typical U.S. metropolit...
