This collection seeks to expand the limits of current debates about urban com-moning practices that imply a radical will to establish collaborative and solidarity networks based on anti-capitalist principles of economics, ecology and ethics. The chapters in this volume draw on case studies in a diversity of urban contexts , ranging from Detroit, USA to Kyrenia, Cyprus-on urban gardening and land stewardship, collaborative housing experiments, alternative food networks , claims to urban leisure space, migrants' appropriation of urban space and workers' cooperatives/collectives. The analysis pursued by the eleven chapters opens new fields of research in front of us: the entanglements of racial capitalism with enclosures and of black geographies with the commons, the critical history of settler colonialism and indigenous commons, law as a force of enclosure and as a strategy of commoning, housing commons from the urban-scale perspective, solidarity economies as labour commons, territoriality in the urban commons, the non-territoriality of mobile commons, the new materialist and post-humanist critique of the commons debate and feminist ethics of care.

Recent scholars have dismissed the utility of self-esteem as well as programs designed to improve it. The authors challenge these contentions on conceptual, methodologi- cal, and empirical grounds. They begin by proposing that the scope of recent analyses has been overly narrow and should be broadened to include specific as well as global self-views. Using this conceptualization, the authors place

The new century brings with it growing interest in crime places. This interest spans theory from the perspective of understanding the etiol- ogy of crime, and practice from the perspective of developing effec- tive criminal justice interventions to reduce crime. We do not attempt a comprehensive treatment of the substantial body of theoretical and empirical research on place and crime

Central Banks have been at the heart of the recent Global Financial Crisis and in the face of unprecedented challenges: to ensure monetary stability in a period of deep financial turmoil. Which seems to require rethinking the theoretical precepts and practice of international monetary this study is to survey the evolution of the central bank in terms of functions performed throughout its history in the context of the dominant paradigm of each stage of evolution of society. The empirical research work carried out year impact of monetary policy on the evolution of inflation targeting price stability over the last fifty years. The Great Inflation to the current global crisis. Paradigm dedicated to monetary policy focused on price stability as an independent and objective, seems to resist the crisis. Although there is agreement on maintaining price stability as a priority objective of the central bank, most researchers and practitioners believe that financial stability is as important f...

This study explores how innovations surrounding supply chain communication systems (SCCS) affect channel relationships and market performance. Drawing on the resource-based view of the firm, the study hypothesizes that certain SCCS innovations can be viewed as firm resources that enhance channel capabilities, which in turn affect a firm’s market performance. The empirical research is based on 184 responses from a survey with U.S. supply chain and logistics managers using structural equation modeling as the analytic method. The results suggest that the effect of applied technological SCCS innovations on channel capabilities is mediated by interfirm systems integration. In contrast, administrative SCCS innovations enhance information exchange and coordination activities directly. Furthermore, the influence of applied technological innovations for SCCS is not strong enough to affect either responsiveness of the partnership or firm performance, whereas administrative innovations for SCCS affect both.

Indian lifestyle brands need to understand the importance of their retailing distribution channels in relation to their overall brand image, products / categories they offer, target consumer group and their implications on the overall brand profitability and consumer perceptions over the brand image rather applying standard thumb rules, assumptions and misconceptions followed by other generalist brands or even short-term lucrative deals offered by distribution channel partners. It is evident that only few Indian brands are able to create true lifestyle brand image in their employees, investors, competitors and consumers mind and trueness level of majority of Indian lifestyle brands is still a question. Majority of developing and developed Indian lifestyle brands assume that the success of a lifestyle brand is measured basis the revenue or profit they generate through having presence across wider distribution channels and are impatient / unaware of implicit long-term strategical benefits of creating a true lifestyle brand image in consumers mind using a rational distribution channel mix strategy. It is true that India is one of the countries with consumers belonging to the widest range of Religions, Regions, Languages, Sub-Cultures and Economic backgrounds which makes it very difficult for any lifestyle brand to have their presence across the country through various distribution channels as each one of them have their own pros and cons for the brand. This makes it furthermore important for lifestyle brands in India to be more careful and
efficient in ensuring the adaptation of rational distribution channel mix. It is observed that the majority of Indian lifestyle brands believe they have adopted the right distribution channel mix and it is yielding the best possible revenue and profit. This belief / assumption always distracts
them from analysing the pros and cons of each distribution channel with respect to the overall brand image and they rather spend most of their time in finding sales channels which are new or latent in nature to be added to the existing distribution channel mix. In this research, we have analysed twelve months actual sales data across various distribution channels available in India of few select lifestyle brands and drawn insights to recommend a rational distribution channel mix for lifestyle brands in India.

This review reports on the results of a comprehensive literature search of studies examining the physical and mental health characteristics of older adults in the United States who use heroin. Multiple databases were searched for papers meeting the inclusion criteria of heroin users who were age 50 years or older. A total of 14 articles covering 9 different studies met the review inclusion criteria. All of the studies were convenience samples, and seven of the nine studies (77.8%) were entirely drawn from substance abuse treatment programs, primarily methadone maintenance programs. Findings from the qualitative studies suggest that the marginalization of older heroin users was a predominant experience that impacted the intent to seek treatment as well as treatment retention. While articles reported high levels of physical and psychological/psychiatric comorbidities with substance misuse, research on heroin use and methadone treatment among older adults is scant and the quantitative findings are inconsistent. The articles reviewed in this study demonstrate that the needs of this population will be significant, yet the development of appropriate interventions and treatment for older adult heroin users will be contingent on empirical research that adequately describes mental and physical health problems.► Research on heroin use and methadone treatment among older adults is scant. ► Older heroin users experience significant marginalization that impacts treatment. ► High levels of physical and psychological/psychiatric comorbidities are reported. ► Intervention and treatment development is contingent upon further research.

A Year 3 angles unit using the Teaching for Abstraction paradigm was developed on the basis of earlier empirical research and trailed by 12 New South Wales (NSW) teachers. Analysis of data submitted by the teachers showed that the unit was generally successful but a number of minor areas for improvement were identified. An analysis of independent classroom observations of students working on the angles lessons is reported in this paper. It was found that the difficulties students experienced could be classified as matching, measuring, drawing, and describing errors. The results clearly support the hypothesized steps in learning by abstraction. (Author/KHR)
