This paper proposes a new method of Robust ranking technique, which is used for defuzzifying the trapezoidal fuzzy number into a crisp number to represent the fuzzy set. In practice, there are many problems in which all decision parameters are fuzzy numbers, and such problems are usually solved by either probabilistic programming or multi objective programming methods. Unfortunately all these methods have shortcomings. In this paper, using the concept of comparison of fuzzy numbers, a very effective method is introduced for solving these problems. The model is illustrated with numerical application to generate a good solution and post optimal analyses are obtained. Investigation of the properties of an optimal solution allows developing a simplex algorithm in fuzzy environment. Furthermore, the proposed technique allows the significant ways to help the decision-maker for formulating their decisions and drawing managerial insights efficiently. © 2015 World Academic Press, UK. Operational Research uses a set of tools based on scientific research principles to achieve rational and meaningful management decisions. This article tries to give solution to a highly complex Linear Programming problem by using Simplex method, Solver and a hybrid prototype which combines the theories of Genetic Algorithms with a new local search heuristic technique. Hybridization of these two techniques

The paper contains results of research realized in the rural area of Ucayali region in Peru, situated in the tropical zone in the Central East of the country. With the use of data acquired from agroforestry research on the demonstration plots and questionnaire survey on farmers´ households, the objective is to assess the economic effects of designed agroforestry multi-strata system by means of ex-ante approach. It was found out, that unfavorable financial results in first two years of the system, long production cycle of timber trees and low price of timber represent the principal challenges for adoption of agroforestry systems. The results drawn from the LP modeling described in this paper provided useful insight into the household's economy which is based on agroforestry production system. The results were elaborated within the research intention IVZ MSM 6046070906.

The production of excess on-farm manure is placing continuous pressures on dairy producers to meet or exceed standards for environmental regulations while maintaining profitability and competitiveness. Evaluation of the effects of recycling nutrients on the profitability of the whole farm enterprise is important for a dairy operation. The objective of this study was to develop a linear programming model that evaluates the economic performance of a dairy operation considering production and environmental constraints. The main goal was to maximize profits from the dairy enterprise considering milk production, manure production, crop production while maintaining a balance of nutrients in the system. Results from simulation analyses showed greater effects on total farm profits at the more restrictive P-based than N-based manure application rates.

In the present paper, we develop a modified pseudospectral scheme for solving an optimal control problem which is governed by a switched dynamical system. Many real-world processes such as chemical processes, automotive systems and manufacturing processes can be modeled as such systems. For this purpose, we replace the problem with an alternative optimal control problem in which the switching times appear as unknown parameters. Using the Legendre-Gauss-Lobatto quadrature and the corresponding differentiation matrix, the alternative problem is discretized to a nonlinear programming problem. At last, we examine three examples in order to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

In the paper the regional, optimization model of agriculture and its use for predicting probable reactions of farmers and assessing the impact of the adaptation processes in the farming sector to agricultural policy changes and macroeconomic developments are presented. Two-phases modeling approach has been applied, with the use of linear programming, static optimization models - a farm model, used to optimize the production structure of the farms typical for the region, and an agricultural sector model, used to determine the optimal farm and production structures within a region. An attempt have been made to incorporate in the model both micro and macroeconomic parameters. The result show, that different scenarios adjustments in farming sector in the region may result in varied farm structures and farms organization, as well as the level and composition of personal incomes of farmers.

The aim of the paper is to examine impacts of different rates of direct payments on production structures and farm incomes of Polish family farms after the accession to the EU. Analyses have been made for 2004, the assumed year of accession, with the use of a linear programming farm optimisation model. 15 farm types, further differentiated by soil quality, have been selected for the study. The modelling results show, that depending on the respective policy scenario (i.e. the rate of direct payments) the introduction of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in Poland may cause some shifts in farm production. Under the conditions of Agenda 2000 and with 25 % of direct payments, as proposed by the European Commission, farm incomes would in 2004 approximately equate the 2001/2002 base level. However, not all types of farms would benefit from the accession.

This lecture introduces the technique of rounding LP relaxations for designing approximation algorithms. We introduce the randomized rounding approach using the set cover problem. The rounding algorithm produces a set cover solution that, with probability almost 1, covers all elements with cost O(ln n) times that of optimal cost. We then present an overview of linear programming. Recall the definition of the set cover problem. Problem 1. Given a universe U = {e 1 ,. .. , e n } of n elements, a collection S of m subsets of U, and a cost function c : S → Q + , the set cover problem seeks a minimum-cost subset of S that covers all elements of U. Here the set cover problem will be put into a linear programming framework. First, let's look at the result, our goal is to minimize the cost of each set. We will allow the variable x to represent the inclusion of each set, where: x s = 1 if set is selected 0 otherwise From this, the linear programming set cover problem can be formulated. N...
