We propose a set of six topics of inquiry into historical games as regards their feminine characters, and we illustrate them through an analysis of This War of Mine, Valiant Hearts and 80 Days. Historical games may include documented historical characters and fictive characters as well; the latter may aim to represent a type of real persons, or may be individualized as a purely fictional character. We argue that This War of Mine, Valiant Hearts and 80 Days have both strong and weak points in their construction of feminine characters, when taking into account the proposed set of indicators.

Taking off from the Media Talk approach, this paper examines the communicative work of a Swedish sports webcast football show, Superlive, as an emerging form of web-based media format called Web-TV. This analysis is situated in a context in which broadcasting is going through fundamental changes, and broadcasters are rethinking their content in order to face the challenges arriving with recent decades’ technological developments, and especially the fact that television is no longer restricted to being broadcast but can be distributed through the web and be received on PCs, tablets and mobile phones. In this ‘post-broadcasting era’ producers are searching for new ways of reaching audiences through creating new forms of audience address. Superlive is a good example of these changes and how broadcasters now explore the possibilities of producing television exclusively for the Web. The analysis shows that what is taking place in Superlive is clearly in contrast to the performances one c...

2 Abstract: This paper unveils the experiences of street life in Pakistan from an emic perspective. It reveals some of the complexities and potential risks to the children living on streets. The research was conducted in Islamabad-Rawalpindi and data was collected through a survey and in-depth interviews from boys aged between 7-18 years. The paper illustrates that children who escaped insecure and unfriendly environment at home were in turn exposed to insecurity, abuse and harassment in the public spaces. Yet, the findings show that despite the various problems encountered on the streets the respondents asserted on having a sense of agency. To reduce and overcome the vulnerability of the street children and to ensure their inclusion in the society the research recommends that the phenomenon requires serious attention which should be in interdisciplinary ways with interventions at multiple levels. Combined efforts are required on part of government, anti-poverty programmes and civil...

The present paper examines job advertisements, a genre deeply rooted in daily or weekly press and Greek language education, as evidenced by recent curricula and educational textbooks. However, the advent of digital and social media has potentially influenced the form and function of job ads. The study aims to shed light on the process of resemiotization of this genre when remediated from traditional to digital media. Furthermore, it explores the implications of this new genre reality for the teaching of genre-based literacies and language education in general. The data for this research were collected from elementary and high school textbooks, as well as from two job search websites, Indeed and Jooble, and LinkedIn. The analysis adopts an interdisciplinary framework that draws upon the principles of mediated discourse analysis and incorporates insights from genre studies, social semiotics, critical sociolinguistics, and new literacies. The findings emphasize the influence of the socio-technical, semiotic, and historical affordances of digital media on the structure and functioning of job ads. This poses a challenge for current and future educational practices and designs in response to the evolving genre landscape.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the role played by the visual arts in expressing and shaping the nation brand. In doing so, it establishes the centrality of visual discourse in nation branding; illustrating that discursive strategies can directly alter the nation brand’s perception. Design/methodology/approach This single case study drawing on in-depth interviews, field observation and secondary/historical material, applies mediated discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis to capture a transitional period in the cultural policies and nation branding rhetoric across a time frame of 60 years. Findings This study establishes the visual arts as a significant carrier of meaning, thus reflecting changes in the national discourse. This analysis illustrates that publicly supported visual arts can articulate policy aspirations and provide insight into the power of competing national discourse which co-exists, thereby shaping the internal and external nation brand. More attention and concentration are paid to cognitive and psychomotor than affective learning of mathematics. The problem may have arisen from the symbolic nature of mathematics values which makes it difficult to understand. Another loophole could have popped up from teachers' perceptions that mathematics values have little relationship with cultural symbols in the classroom, as well as in affective values. In this study, the researcher explored five prominent mathematics values of 'respect', 'commitment to excellence', 'truth and integrity', 'teamwork', and 'equity' through cultural symbols, called 'Adinkra'. With a case study design involving ten student teachers, the researcher assembled over 60 Adinkra symbols. The student-teachers then selected and matched at least five of the symbols that fall into each of the five values and analyzed their values. In five separate tables, the results showed that 'respect' ranked highest, and was closely followed by 'commitment to excellence', and 'truth and integrity'. The least values were 'teamwork' and 'equity'. Having given this culturally responsive pedagogy, it was recommended that many more cultural symbols should be explored to equip teachers and students to apply mathematics values for lifelong learning.

The media, which is all about the social norms and traditions of the culture, are a society's spokesperson. It also looks for solutions to each issue that is faced by society. Through the media, we can actively disclose a society's complicated reality. The aim of this study is to demonstrate that, in some cases, the use of Western culture on developing countries' media has a significant negative impact on social and cultural norms. In Pakistan, drama is an important source of entertainment and the country's people have a very good liking for it. They always mention that, while such dramas have been based on fascinating stories in the past, they've evolved significantly lately. The research article analysis the contents of two Pakistani dramas which have been shown on television between 2012 and 2019. Both dramas have been shown on Hum Tv, while ARY's Digital TV Network is broadcasting the second drama. Foreign or western culture has been openly promoted in the dramas on both stations. This study aims at exploring how appropriation of Western culture in Pakistani media has an effect on clothing, culture, morals and mental health. In addition, it must be seen whether there is a favorable or unfavorable impact on the person's wellbeing. In order to conduct an exhaustive qualitative study, data from several Pakistani dramas were obtained by the use of content analysis. This study provides insight into the enormous impact that cultural appropriation has on eastern culture and how it is influencing evolution of mixed cultures. This hybridization can have an immediate impact on people's wellbeing while contributing to a shift of culture in society. They have an impact on all aspects of their personal life, morality and culture. The analysis also shows that the morality of these plays was outside of and at odds with the bulk of the nation's faith and beliefs. Relationships between couples have been studied in the Urdu theatre serials. The husband's unkind and negative attitude seems to be sufficient justification for her to choose an extramarital connection. Clearly, these operas are encouraging illicit relationships in the first place. The investigation has shown that Pakistani plays in Urdu on television are encouraging more couples to be at odds with each other.
