This paper aims to briefly introduce and review the current literature discussing PowerPoint presentations. After rendering a brief history of PowerPoint, this review indicates PowerPoint’s limitations and advantages. By reviewing relevant researches, this paper also shows that PowerPoint’s defective use ends in results ranging from the audience’s passive reception and confusion to financial and fatal damages. More importantly, it reviews major existing theoretical frameworks that have been employed, or may help with, investigating PowerPoint presentations ranging from communication, theatre and film studies to cognitive science, rhetoric, and critical discourse analysis. This review, also, reflects some of the recommendations by theorists on how to improve PowerPoint presentations.

The use of technology has had important influence in the education world. One of them is PowerPoint Presentation which is a form of learning media software that greatly assists teachers in presenting the material with ease. Survey addressed to four teachers at Islamic university of As-Syafiiyah, to know the teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness of the use of PowerPoint presentation in EFL Classroom. The survey results show that teachers prefer a PowerPoint presentation in teaching. However, there are obstacles is the lack of availability of facilities and the ability of teachers to operate the computer so it is difficult to make a PowerPoint presentation attractive design.

Garis besar materi ini adalah: Hakikat TIK dan Komputer, Penggunaan Microsoft Office Word dalam dunia pendidikan, Penggunaan Microsoft Office Excel untuk mendukung administrasi pendidikan, penggunaan Microsoft Office Powerpoint untuk membuat media pembelajaran interaktif, dan penggunaan beberapa aplikasi Internet untuk meningkatkan kompetensi dan daya saing guru.
Buku ini dapat digunakan sebagai panduan dalam mengupas teknik-teknik menggunakan hardware dan software komputer, menggunakan Ms. Word untuk membuat karya tulis ilmiah, menggunakan Ms. Excel untuk menganalisis data, menggunakan Ms. PowerPoint untuk membuat media pembelajaran interaktif, dan menggunakan aplikasi internet sebagai media, sumber belajar, dan alat komunikasi.

PowerPoint is one of the most frequently used tools to present multimedia for educational purposes. Nevertheless, little is known about the users' needs when using PowerPoint during lecturing. Our study focused on the presenter's needs in this context of use. We interviewed nine university lecturers from the computer science department by means of a questionnaire. The results show that users require features that are not yet realised with PowerPoint. For example, the control and use of other media should be adequately integrated. Or the navigation within the slide collection should be improved to better meet the users' needs. Based on our findings, we outline required system features and suggest solutions in form of a prototype.

This capstone action research study focused on nine electronic medical records (EMR) trainers and subject matter experts with no training in instructional design and e-learning tools as e-learning training developers. The research question addressed in this study is: "How did the interventional instructional unit impact participants’ attitudes about the ability to use the ADDIE model and incorporate e-learning into electronic medical records system training sessions?" The study involved an eight hour block of instruction on the ADDIE instructional model and e-learning tools. The instruments used for data collection were identical pre- and post-surveys. Data were analyzed and findings made utilizing quantitative analysis. The study concluded that training in instructional design principles and e-learning tools can improve EMR trainer and subject matter expert knowledge and confidence for developing effective training.

Recent developments in digital pen and paper solutions enable, not only the digital capture of handwriting, but also paper to be used as an interactive medium that links to digital information and services. We present a tool that builds on technologies for interactive paper to enable PowerPoint presentations to be controlled from printed slide handouts. Furthermore, slides can be easily annotated during presentations by simply drawing on the printed version of the slide. As well as discussing the advantages of such a paper-based interface and initial findings on its use, we describe how we were also able to exploit it to provide a general prototyping tool for interactive paper applications.

The teaching of programming concepts and algorithms very much depends on the mental models developed by scholars when learning how to program. There is a rich body of research on how to best teach programming. Nevertheless, many instructors follow a presentation-based approach where existing slideware such as PowerPoint or Keynote is used to show a sequential series of slides with static pieces of source code. Such a presentation-based approach based on existing slideware tools might not be optimal for the authoring as well as the delivery of programming courses. We outline how presentation-based eduction in programming can be improved by paying attention to existing research on how to best teach programming. We derive a number of requirements for more efficient source code visualisation in presentation tools and present an architecture as well as an extensible prototype for enhanced presentation-based teaching of programming. The presented interactive source code visualisation plug-in for the MindXpres presentation tool can be seen as a step towards enhancing existing slideware in order to achieve a more efficient and interactive teaching of programming concepts and algorithms. The ultimate goal of the presented approach is to present source code in a way that reinforces a user's mental model and thereby increases the knowledge transfer of presentations delivered in programming courses.

David Roberts is Senior Lecturer in Peace and Conflict Studies. His research areas are divided between postconflict peacebuilding in places like Cambodia and Sierra Leone, and ways to transform the large group lecture experience for students and teachers alike. Abstract An important contemporary challenge to the large group lecture in higher education is that it encourages passive learning which is claimed to be out of sync with intellectual expectations and social needs. Attempts to change this practice have salvaged some aspects of the higher education experience for students, but they have not transformed the learning environment that is the most usual one, that is, one characterised by lectures, into an arena of active learning. This article tests recent multimedia learning propositions which claim that using certain images dislocates pedagogically harmful excesses of text, reducing cognitive overloading and exploiting under-used visual processing capacities. The experiments yielded unpredicted results which indicate that the use of certain images can also prompt students to become active co-producers of knowledge. This is not about visual aids, where images are a side-bar to a traditional lecture. This is about images as the medium through which active learning is energised. Marshall McLuhan famously remarked that 'the medium is the message'. But for this article, the message is the medium.

In this paper, we explore the relationship between student success in acquiring software literacy and students’ broader engagement and understanding of knowledge across different disciplines. We report on the first phase of a project that examines software literacies associated with Microsoft PowerPoint as a common software package encountered and used by most students at tertiary level. Student data was collected through an online survey and focus-group interviews. One hundred and seventy-nine first-year Engineering and Media Studies students from a New Zealand university responded to the survey. A majority of students considered themselves to be confident and comfortable in engaging with new technologies, had access to mobile-based technologies or laptops, and relied on this hardware and related software for electronic forms of communication and information access in their university courses. The paper “Ventilator Fan in the Kitchen to Produce Power for Home Appliances” is based on “green technology” where we are intended to generate free electricity from natural resource i.e. wind. Generating power using ventilation fan as a turbine blade. Extracting the power from the rotational movement of the fan using a dynamo. The components of the paper include ventilation fan, dynamo and home appliance. The amount of power generated depends on the wind speed. The paper is experimented for coastal areas where the wind speed is constant/more throughout the year compared to normal regions. The dynamo can be prepared in house with the help of copper wires, magnet and cardboard. The energy of wind can be converted to electricity and used to light a bulb in the kitchen.
