Yamatoite (original) (raw)

A discredited species name

Formula:

(Mn2+,Ca)3(V3+,Al)2(SiO4)3

Name:

For the Yamato manganese mine.

Discredited member of Garnet Group; discredited since the type material was not truly Mn-V-dominant. Subsequently submitted as IMA 2009-026 (momoiite) using material from a different locality.

Originally reported from Yamato mine, Amami-Oshima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, Nansei Archipelago, Japan.
