Andrieslombaardite (original) (raw)

A valid IMA mineral species

Name:

for Andries Frederik Lombaard, (August 28, 1877 Burgersfort, Southern, LP, South Africa - October 06, 1954 Burgersfort, Lydenburg, Transvaal, South Africa) who "was instrumental in the discovery of the Merensky reef". He was prospecting for gold on his farm Maandagshoek No. 148, found a few specks of a heavy white metal, which he at once suspected might be platinum.

Co-Type Localities:

Joubdo Stream, Bir Bir River, Yubdo District (Joubdo District; Youbdo District; Joubda District), Gimbi, West Welega Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia
Onverwacht Mine, Steelpoort, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Sekhukhune District Municipality, Limpopo, South Africa
