A translation of the π-calculus into the MONSTR graph rewriting language is described and proved correct. The translation illustrates the heavy cost in practice of faithfully implementing the communication primitive of the π-calculus and similar process calculi. It also illustrates the convenience of representing an evolving network of communicating agents directly within a graph manipulation formalism, both because the necessity to use delicate notions of bound variables and of scopes is avoided, and also because the standard model of graphs in set theory automatically yields a useful semantics for the process calculus. The correctness proof illustrates many features typically encountered in reasoning about graph rewriting systems, and particularly how serialisation techniques can be used to reorder an arbitrary execution into one having stated desirable properties.

The main goal of this specific study is to reveal the benefits from the use of the ANN in geotechnical engineering by focusing on the elaboration of data coming from real field measurements concerning ground movements due to tunnelling. Moreover, the Back Propagation algorithm is used so as to reveal the hierarchy of each of the parameters mainly affecting the total amount of the induced settlements due to tunnelling. The short review of our experience in applying ANN's in Geotechnical Engineering is succeeded by the main accomplishments of this study. The provided information, originally published by Attewell, concerns tunnel size and depth, maximum settlement, settlement trough width, volume and slope, ground description, geological properties and excavation method.

The general goal of this research is to draw up an index for the evaluation of the sustainable innovation potential of scientific research in the biotechnology field. The experiment consisted of the index's conceptual construction, for which the Sustainability Innovation Cube was the chosen methodology. The framework characteristics suggest the use of a multi-criteria approach to draw up the index, thus justifying the option for the Analytic Network Process (ANP). The results show that the ANP is efficient for the synthesis of the innovative sustainable performance in tests with simulated judgements; so, the methodology's validity should be tested in real case studies.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) provides the objective mathematics to process the inescapably subjective and personal preferences of an individual or a group in making a decision. With the AHP and its generalization, the Analytic Network Process (ANP), one constructs hierarchies or feedback networks, then makes judgments or performs measurements on pairs of elements with respect to a controlling element to derive ratio scales that are then synthesized throughout the structure to select the best alternative.

Material handling equipment selection problem (MHESP) is an important decision making area for the companies, since it has a direct effect on manufacturing and service productivity. In this study, an integrated fuzzy multi-criteria decision making methodology for MHESP is proposed. The proposed approach is utilized from fuzzy sets, Analytic Network Process (ANP) and Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) approaches. Evaluation criteria for the MHESP is weighted by fuzzy-ANP (F-ANP) approach, then, alternative material handling equipments are evaluated by fuzzy-PROMETHEE (F-PROMETHEE) approach. The methodology is applied for a manufacturing company to prove its effectiveness. Finally, some sensitivity analyses are conducted to show the results’ sensitiveness to the changes of the weights of the evaluation criteria.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to assist organizations in understanding the nature of quality management from a resource-based perspective by investigating the relationship between strategies needed to drive quality enhancement, and resources being allocated to support effective strategy implementation. The resource-based view of TQM elements led this case study research to deal with quality management from a strategic viewpoint, or what is known as Strategic Quality Management (SQM). Design/methodology/approach – The paper employs the analytic network process (ANP) to model the interactions between eight SQM strategies and the three types of resources (human, organisational and technological) needed for effective strategy implementation. The paper then formulates a goal programming (GP) model in order to identify the extent to which each single strategy is inhibited by a lack of (or overloaded by) resources. Using a case study approach, the hybrid ANP-GP methodology is empl...

The present paper delineates a three-step algorithm for the analytic network process (ANP) structure design. When defining the decision goal and the alternative set, one can use the three-step algorithm proposed in this paper, first, to specify the decision criteria and, second, to outline the structure of the ANP problem. To ease the process of ANP structure design, we present two novel data structures: the multiple-effect tree and the multiple-criteria tree. The multiple-effect tree helps explore the apparent consequences of a given event or state—known in this paper as the decision alternatives—while the multiple-criteria tree is considered the missing link between the multiple-effect tree and the ANP structure. Employing the approach presented in this paper will help detect any mistakes in the ANP structure design. A numerical example is provided in the final section of the paper to better articulate the ideas.

In competitive markets, companies are always under intense pressure to find ways to reduce production and material costs to survive and sustain their competitive position in their respective markets. Since a qualified supplier is a vital element for a buyer in reducing such costs, evaluation and selection of the potential suppliers has become an important component of supply chain management. Most supplier selection models consider various tangible and intangible characteristics of suppliers. AHP, FAHP, FUZZY TOPSIS, DEA, ANP, ANN, FIS, GA etc. are the supplier selection and evaluation approaches that have different process to select and evaluate a supplier that has been focused in this paper and also classified individually and combined based on the previous researches. To analysis the cost the MOLP method and the Multi Criteria Decision making tools (MCDM) have been included in this paper to take the decision and to select the suppliers more accurately and makes a reflection on the effective suppliers selection criteria like supplier reliability, product quality and supplier experience etc. and also suggests on the most quantitative results on cost effective methods and supplier selection approaches.

The balanced scorecard (BSC) is a strategic management method that links performance measurement to vision and strategies using a multidimensional set of financial and non-financial performance metrics. Although several studies have combined the BSC method with multi-criteria decision analysis methodologies, most of the research efforts do not consider the essentials of strategic and performance management in a systematic and holistic framework capable of handling imprecision and vagueness. The purpose of this study is to present a novel approach for structuring and prioritising the performance measures in the BSC method. The contribution of the proposed approach is fivefold: 1) we use the quality function deployment (QFD) technique to create a linkage between the BSC perspectives; 2) we use the analytic network process (ANP) technique to consider the interactions between the performance measures in each BSC perspective; 3) we integrate the QFD and the ANP techniques to help decision makers understand the relations between the performance measures in different perspectives and the correlations among the performance measures in the same perspective; 4) we handle the vagueness and ambiguity in decision makers’ judgements with the fuzzy set theory; 5) we present a case study to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach and exhibit the efficacy of the procedures.

Selection of the suitable material handling equipment (MHE) is a very difficult task for the manufacturing companies because of the considerable capital investment required. There are many tangible and intangible factors for choosing the suitable MHE. Multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) has been found to be a useful approach to analyze these conflicting factors. The evaluation of MHE alternatives within the frame of various subjective criteria and the weights of the criteria are usually expressed in linguistic terms. This makes fuzzy logic a more natural approach to this kind of problems. This paper proposes a combined MCDM methodology for evaluation and selection of MHE types for a company in the steel construction industry in Istanbul, Turkey. Fuzzy analytic network process (FANP) is utilized for assigning weights of the criteria for MHE selection and fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is used to determine the most proper system alternative using the criteria weights attained by FANP. The selection is based on the compatibility between MHE and production characteristics. Objective is to select the most efficient MHE considering also the cost efficiency. The study was followed by the sensitivity analyses of the results.

Despite the service industry composes large part of the world economy, the academic studies and applications on supply chain are mainly about production industry. Because of the different structure of services, the service supply chain and also performance criteria-metrics differ from the product supply chain. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the supply chain performance metrics for restaurant sector. For this purpose in the first part of the paper the service supply chain concept and service performance metrics that has been widely accepted in the literature are explained. Due to the non-hierarchical structure of performance criteria and metrics, the hybrid multi criteria decision making method DANP is used to weight the criteria and the information about the method is given in the second part. In the application part, with the data received from the expert group about a restaurant supply chain, firstly the direct relaxation matrix has been generated and relations between main performance criteria are determined with DEMATEL method. Then the weights of per performance metric and criterion were computed with DANP. Analysis results have demonstrated that the " customer satisfaction, flexibility and customer query time " are the most important criteria impacting the restaurant supply chain performance.
Keywords: service supply chain performance, DANP (dematel based analytic network process), DEMATEL (decision making trial and evaluation laboratory)

High-resolution functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can be used to precisely identify blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) activation of small structures within the brainstem not accessible with standard fMRI. A previous study identified a region within the pons exhibiting sustained neuromodulation due to electrical tongue stimulation, but was unable to precisely identify the neuronal structure involved. For this study, highresolution images of neural activity induced by optic flow were acquired in nine healthy controls and nine individuals with balance dysfunction before and after information-free tongue stimulation. Subjects viewed optic flow videos to activate the structures of interest. Sub-millimeter in-plane voxels of structures within the posterior fossa were acquired using a restricted field of view. Whole-brain functional imaging verified that global activation patterns due to optic flow were consistent with previous studies. Optic flow activated the visual associat...

Indonesia has been widely known as an archipelago country, with its geographical location is at the equator, which make this country as a tropical country. It has the topography of diverse islands which consist of lakes, mountains, and one of countries which has the longest coastline. This condition cause Indonesia has various beautiful tourism objects and become the attraction to the international tourists to come. Indonesia still has the other islands which are as beautiful as Bali Island offering different beauties. One of them is an island located in the most western island of Indonesia, which becomes the zero point of the country, it is Sabang Island in Aceh Province. Sabang Island is the small volcanic island located in the most western island of Sumatra. Infrastructure becomes the basic device in supporting this tourism aspect, which the buildings and service institutions play the important role in appropriate managing of economic and community needs. The problem in this study is how to determine the priority of tourism infrastructure development in Sabang Island. The objective of this study is to determine the priority rank of tourism infrastructure development and the priority rank of the potential investment in Sabang Island to be developed. The rangking results of Analytic Network Process (ANP) calculations of tourism locations/zones and tourism supporting infrastructure found that Teupin Layeu and Gapang, and Rubiah Island have the highest priority to be developed the hotel/accommodation infrastructure which scores are 0.02589 and 0.02120. Then followed by parking infrastructure in Teupin Layeu and access road to km 0 which became as the main priority determined by Sabang Government which scores are 0.01750 and 0.01618
