This study examines the putativegastroprotective effect of adenosine onindomethacininduced gastric lesions and the possiblemechanisms involved. After 24 hr of starvation, the ratswere treated either with indomethacin (Indo; 25 mg/kg,subcutaneously) alone or adenosine + Indo (Ado; 7.5mg/kg, subcutaneously, three times a day), or thevehicle (5% NaHCO3, subcutaneously). Thelength of hemorrhagic lesions in the stomachs was expressed as the lesionindex. The tissue-associated

Robot-assisted surgery has been reported to be a safe and effective alternative to conventional laparoscopy to treat patients with rectal cancer in a minimally invasive manner. Never the less, substantial data concerning functional outcomes and long term oncological adequacy are still lacking. We aimed to assess the current role of robotics in rectal surgery focusing on functional and oncological outcomes. A comprehensive review of the English-language literature was conducted for articles dealing with robotic-assisted rectal resections. All relevant papers were evaluated on functional implications such as postoperative sexual and urinary dysfunction and oncological outcomes. Robotics showed a general trend toward lower rates of sexual and urinary postoperative dysfunction and earlier recovery compared to laparoscopy. The rates of 3-year local recurrence, disease free survival and overall survival compare favourably with those of laparoscopy. At present, the literature fails to prov...

withdrawn APASL/Poster/Abstract/22 Prevalence of HCV genotype Ho Tan Dat and Pham Thi Thu Thuy Medic Medical Center, Vietnam Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes are distributed differently depending on geography and etiology of infection. The incidence of HCV isolates found in clinical practice is of great clinical significance to the treatment of HCV infected patients as different subtypes may respond unequally to therapy. Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of HCV genotypes in Vietnamese patients. Comparison of serum virus loads among patients infected with Hepatitis C Virus genotypes 1, 2, and 6. Methods: A total of 327 HCV RNA-positive patients with chronic hepatitis were enrolled (male 57.5%, female 42.5% with mean age of patients 47.9 10.58 years) from April 2004 to January 2005. HCV genotypes were determined by LiPA (Bayer Corporation). At the same time, we collected 229 random serums in this group to perform Branched DNA for HCV RNA quantification. Results: Geno...

Biliary leaks are uncommon but morbid complications of pancreaticoduodenectomies, which have historically been managed with percutaneous drainage, reoperation, or a combination of both. We report a de novo percutaneous-endoscopic hepaticojejunostomy from an anomalous right hepatic duct injured during pancreaticoduodenectomy to the afferent bowel limb. The percutaneous-endoscopic hepaticojejunostomy was stented to allow for tract formation with successful stent removal after 5.5 months. One year after the creation of the percutaneous-endoscopic hepaticojejunostomy, the patient remains clinically well without evidence of biliary leak or obstruction.

The aim of this study was to confirm the role of antral nodularity in the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in children. This prospective study included 107 children (58 male; 54.2%), between the ages of 3 and 18 years, infected with H. pylori, which was confirmed if the patient had at least 2 of 4 positive test results (urea breath test, urease test in gastric biopsy, histopathology - positive hematoxylin and eosin and Giemsa staining, and/or monoclonal stool ELISA test - Amplified IDEIA™ Hp StAR™). The control group consisted of 234 children with abdominal pain, of similar age, in whom urease test in gastric tissue and histopathology were negative. In both groups, photographs of the gastric antrum taken during endoscopy were evaluated for nodularity by 3 independent endoscopists, blinded to the results of other tests. Sensitivity, specificity, and negative and positive predictive value of nodularity were assessed. Indication for upper endoscopy was chronic abd...

Pancreatic diseases benefit from early and appropriate diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Variety of imaging technologies give clinicians an unparalleled set of tools to help in every day clinical practice and decision-making. The basal techniques include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), radionuclide imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in selected patients. Аdvances in all these technologies and development of molecular-based imaging could enable clinicians to identify diseases at an earlier stage and, thereby, improve patient outcomes. CT is introduced in late 1970s. Since tnen there has been dramatic improvement in pancreatic imaging. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Date of Submission: 08-11-2018 Date of acceptance: 21-11-2018 -------------------------------...

Purpose: We have projected to evaluate the potency of methanol extract of Albizia procera (MEAP) leaves against diarrheal model. Methods: The leave extract of A. procera (100 and 200 mg/kg body weight) was administered by oral route to different groups of mice (each group containing three mice) to justify the action extract against castor oil and MgSO4 induced diarrhea model. Loperamide (5 mg/kg) was used as positive control or standard. The effect of the extract on MgSO4 and castor oil-induced intestinal fluid accumulation (enteropooling) was assessed. Results: Both the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight was found substantial (p < 0.01) in controlling diarrheal activity. The extract at the dose of 200 mg/kg showed such an effect comparable to that of standards effect. No mortality or visible signs of general weakness were observed in the animals following the oral administration of extract up to a dose of 1000 mg/kg.

Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide next to cardiovascular diseases. Despite the advancement in screening, early diagnosis, and development in treatment technology in last several decades, cancer incidence overall, particularly that of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, is far from being controlled, and is expected to increase worldwide. Summary: Although numerous preclinical and population-based clinical studies have already made important progress in restraining the overall cancer incidence and mortality, the full potential of preventive strategy is still far from being realized, and remains at an early stage. There are several major challenges regarding this issue, and one of the crucial challenges is to maintain the balance between risks and benefits. As a result of past investments, primary prevention nowadays include the integration of various activities such as lifestyle changes to reduce risk, screening to detect early lesions, vaccines and preventi...

Introduction: The reported prevalence of hemorrhoids detection during colonoscopic examination range between 4.4-86%. Available prevalence studies have a range of shortcomings with population-related bias depending on whether patients are derived from the general population or from colonoscopy clinics. Furthermore, there is limited information concerning the prevalence and correlative clinical risk factors for the incidental diagnosis of hemorrhoids in an asymptomatic, endoscopically-screened adult population. Aims: To determine the prevalence of endoscopicallydiagnosed hemorrhoids and correlative clinical and biochemical associations specifically with this diagnosis in asymptomatic patients. Methods: Retrospective case-controlled study that included all patients followed by the Institute of Medical Screening undergoing colonoscopy between 20062011 as part of routine screening or surveillance of moderate-risk colorectal cancer (CRC) or with a positive family history of CRC. Clinical...
