One issue within current product development literature entails, both with students and with professionals, the reliable scaling, and the objective assessment of products. This article will attempt to describe a way how master's students at the University of Antwerp, within a product development case, can both assess each other, assess the process of product development, and assess the final product using comparative judgement (CJ). This, while achieving learning goals described at master level. Our evaluation was anchored by use of Comproved, a validated instrument designed to comparatively evaluate products of students, during the design process (formative) and when uploading the final deliverables (summative) for the course. The current study evaluates how first year Master students (n=72) apply CJ using an online tool, Comproved (Comproved.com) during a semester-long group project on Product-Service System (PSS) design. Based on post hoc questionnaire details and interviews, we will list the advantages and the disadvantages of CJ, as stated by students. Finally, we will list the potentials of CJ during product development cycles and their impact on product quality, reliability of judgement and metacognitive strategies for learning.

Edutainment may be considered a developing contemporary research field particularly as new and open source game development environments are made available to the research community. Nevertheless, most edutainment scenarios are usually limited in terms of interactivity, design and aesthetics, a fact that may be attributed to the task complexity, which requires an integrated approach addressing all related fields. This work introduces a conceptual/operational framework for the development of edutainment scenarios, which is both game-based and rich-media oriented. The proposed framework, which for the main part must be considered an educational effort, combines theoretical background -within the fields of human-computer communication, interaction/educational design and entertainment studies-and practical solutions and techniques regarding software and digital games development, for the creation of custom edutainment scenarios. These abstract and more or less theoretical scenarios due to the seamless embodiment of technical practices may be easily developed as fully fledged products, be them games, applications or any kind of digital media that provide the unified service of education and entertainment. In such a case the end product (a digital system) permits the user to interact with the environment in a game-like manner, which enhances learnability and contributes to knowledge acquirement as the underlying objective. The framework, although not a rigid one but rather subjected to ad hoc adjustments, consists of welldefined stages, which include modern educational theories and state-of-the-art development environments. This paper describes in details the proposed educational framework for the edutainment scenarios and presents a recent case study that validates its effectiveness. Despite the fact that the framework is still under development in a continuous feedback process with respect to the scenarios conceived by higher education students who utilise it, the results achieved so far are rather encouraging in terms of creativity, interaction design and aesthetics, thus addressing in a satisfactory manner the above mentioned deficiencies which -in our opinion-characterise a large portion of commercial edutainment scenarios

This study examines how factors in the classroom environment influence gifted children and their self-esteem in Junior Secondary level classes in Sri Lanka, using a sample survey design. One hundred and two male and female gifted students at Junior Secondary level from two geographical provinces were selected using the snowballing sampling method, with the Ravens Standardized Matrix Test and teacher nominations. The Coppersmith’s Self Esteem Scale was employed to examine these children’s self-esteem and a self-developed screening test was implemented to identify the factors in the classroom environment that influenced them. The results of the study revealed that such gifted children presented significant classroom environment trigger factors, such as teaching-learning issues, neglect by the teachers, unhappiness with their teachers, lack of attention from the teachers, teachers’ lack of teaching skills and methods, peer pressure and peer relationships issues. Due to these classroom influences, the children presented psychological difficulties including physical, emotional and behavioral difficulties. Of these, emotional difficulties showed higher scores as compared to other difficulties. When considering self-esteem, forty-seven children presented an overall low score in contrast to both average and higher scores in the sample. There was a significant positive correlation between emotional, behavioral and physical difficulties and self-esteem. Thus, it seemed that the development of professional skills and the need for further teacher training related to special education are vital. It is also important to provide integrated professional counselling services to strengthen the self-esteem and well-being of talented children, in the school system.

In recent years, the quality of management education in general, and particularly of MBA and Executive MBA programs, has been called into question. There are serious doubts about universities’ ability to give students the competencies they need to deal with complex problems in modern society. One part of the discussion focuses on ethical issues and the process through which students develop values and attitudes. In line with the economic crisis, there has been increasing interest in the development of learners’ attitudes to responsibility. We report the results of a study that starts with an ambitious and yet ill-structured learning goal in a demanding educational practice area: How can pedagogical interventions in management education be designed to promote learners‘ attitudes to responsible leadership? As a starting point, there are neither consensual definitions of responsible leadership nor substantial theories available to design promising interventions. De-sign-
based research (DBR) provides a structured process to deal with research problems, starting with innovative but imprecisely defined objectives and unknown ways to reach them. We introduce the DBR design and describe the research process and results from a project conducted at St.Gallen University’s Executive MBA program. In close collaboration with practitioners, interventions evolved through multiple cycles of development, testing and refinement with the pursuit of theory-building and practical innovation.

In this case study the processes and outcomes of an educational design research project focusing on the creation of a professional development programme for early childhood teachers to foster inquiry-based science education are discussed. Within this project a research model based on the methodology of educational design research was developed and refined. This model is used to discuss the different phases of the research process, the involvement of stakeholders during the whole research project, the role of the project team, and the ‘unpredictability’ of the project’s outcomes. With the assistance of experts in methodology, the project team developed insights into combining diverse forms of formative evaluation and data processing. This chapter also shows how the project team gained expertise in the active and intensive cooperation with a diverse group of stakeholders. One of the key and crucial aspects contributing to the success of the research has been the open and appreciative relationship between stakeholders and members of the project team.

Since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003, Iraq has been in need of a new education system that reestablishes the country to its former prominent seat as a center of learning. Due to the wars with neighboring countries as well as the Gulf War, the Hussein regime severely reduced the country’s education budget to support war efforts. Re-energizing the country’s educational system will require a clearly defined curriculum with performance standards, supported by newly defined sociocultural values that creates a framework towards building successful schools. Considering Iraq’s need to adopt a world policy model in reforming the country’s various infrastructures, the Iraq Ministry of Education must also establish a more efficient and effective accountability system.

A critical role for Learning Design is to improve education but we need to first ask ourselves: what is the role of education? Dewey (1938/2007) argues that it is to provide experiences that promote growth. Not just in the course of the experience itself, but in setting up the conditions for further growth through future experiences. It is within this broad definition of educational that our teachers find themselves confronted with the challenging task of preparing young people for a complex and demanding world.
If we want education to be responsive to the ever-shifting environment we live in, and address the challenge of providing learners with experiences that foster continuous growth, there is a clear imperative for reconceptualising education as learning design - “the act of devising new practices, plans of activity, resources and tools aimed at achieving particular educational aims in a given situation” (Mor and Craft 2012).

Mechanical advances carried utilizations of developments to schooling. Ordinary schooling progressively prospers with new advancements joined by more student dynamic conditions. In this continuum, there are students favoring self-learning. Customary learning materials yield alluring, spurring and innovatively improved learning materials. The QR (Quick Response) Codes are one of these advancements. The point of this review is to overhaul an illustration unit upheld with QR Codes and to get the student sees about the upgraded material. For this reason, the overhauled example unit was conveyed to 15 students in Balıkesir University in the scholastic year of 2013-2014. The students were approached to concentrate on the material. The students who had advanced mobile phones and Internet access were picked for the review. To give sectional variety, three gatherings were made. The gathering students were from Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science and Literature and Faculty of Engineering. Later the semi-organized meetings were held, the students were gotten some information about their pre-information about QR Codes, QR Codes' commitment to learning, hardships with utilizing QR Codes about and configuration issues. Spellbinding information examination was utilized in the review. The discoveries were deciphered based on Theory of Diffusion of Innovations and Theory of Uses and Gratifications. Later the exploration, the subjects found were attention to QR Code, kinds of QR Codes and applications, commitments to learning, and expansion of QR Codes. By and large, the students taking part in the review detailed that they knew about QR Codes; that they could utilize the QR Codes; and that involving QR Codes in schooling was valuable. They likewise communicated that such elements as visual components, allure and direct steering emphatically affected learning. What's more, they for the most part referenced that they didn't have any trouble utilizing QR Codes; that they enjoyed the plan; and that the substance ought to incorporate both shallow and inside and out data.

Solving mathematical word problems is a difficult, complex and intellectual activity. The formation of problem solving skills is much more difficult than calculation skills because the problems are related to many concepts and a lot of mathematical relationships. Therefore, students are inevitable to commit errors to deal with them. This study shows the errors of 160 3rd grade students regarding some kinds of word problems in Mathematics 3 in Vietnam. The results indicate that children commit many errors due to many different reasons such as: subjectivity, carelessness, wrong application of the calculation rules, incorrect identification of problem kinds and wrong calculation. Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) who was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for his volume of poems Gitanjali (Song Offerings). Rabindranath Tagore is also known for his short stories; the themes of his stories are direct and clear moral that portray the social issues of society. This research paper is an attempt to examine the female protagonists in Rabindranath Tagore’s short stories from a social viewpoint, focusing on gender and time-based kinship relations. Here, kinship is defined as an extension of familial relationships to the community (common ethnic-social life, locality and religion) in such a way as to achieve progressively higher levels of social integration and extensive social networks through marriage alliances and lines of descent.

Researchers in the field of mathematics education are beginning to appreciate the potential of contemplative practices such as mindfulness to alleviate students' stress and increase their focus. What researchers do not yet know is whether, and if so how, bringing focused attention to somatic experience through a wide variety of contemplative-somatic practices (i.e., yoga, Feldenkrais, body-mind centering, and attending to bodily sensations in meditation) may support student learning of specific mathematical content. As a first step toward conceptualizing and ideating the pedagogical design and facilitation of content-oriented contemplative exercises, we convened a workshop to explore these ideas. Here we report on findings from this pioneering workshop, which brought together international scholars and practitioners interested in the relations between contemplative-somatic practice and mathematical reasoning and learning. This report elaborates on participants' experiences and derived pedagogical insights to offer the field new horizons in the development of the theory and practice of contemplative mathematics. OBJECTIVES: Investigating Whether and How Contemplative-Somatic Practices Offer Students Enhanced Access to the Pre-Symbolic, Preconceptual Sense of Mathematical Concepts C ontemplative-somatic practice (CSP) covers a wide range of practices in which bodily movement and awareness is used to draw the practitioner's focus inwards to help them become more reflective or contemplative. Practices commonly used are: yoga, qi gong, tai chi, Feldenkrais, body-mind centering, ecstatic dance (i.e., 5Rhythms), walking meditation, and breath awareness practices used in Buddhist and Hindu meditation. In fact, any repetitive movement, such as running, rowing, or swimming , can lead to contemplative or meditative states. Mathematics education theorists have begun to engage with ideas concerning the potential role of somatic-contemplative contributions in supporting enhanced ped-agogical practice. These efforts include developing mathematics pedagogy (Brady, 1 The authors may be contacted at dor@berkeley.edu and patricia@thecontempla-tiveacademy.com.

This study examines one of the central elements of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course. Four case study schools in Sydney, Australia have collaborated with the research team in 2013 in order to share their perceptions, implementation strategies and evaluation of the TOK course. The case study schools have contextually varied situations, locations, histories and philosophies, which collectively provide information on how the TOK has been taken up, interpreted and adapted by particular school communities. All data arising from these case studies has been coded and thematically analysed by the research team. In addition to the case studies, the University of Western Sydney research team have prepared two online surveys, one for teachers and one for students of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), which all Australian IB DP schools were invited to complete. Data from these surveys were analysed using bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis. In a further quantitative component of the study, the research team examined mixed cohorts of first year International Baccalaureate (IB) and non-IB university students from a number of Australian universities using the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI). Together these data sources provide an analysis of the current functioning of the TOK course in Australia and in relation to academic self-concept and critical thinking.

What could possibly be a meaningful conversation between educational researchers and movement scientists? Curiously, they have much in common. Both groups of researchers increasingly: (1) appreciate the human capacity to enact perceptually guided movement as an overarching psychological model of thinking, problem solving, and learning; (2) theorize the development of perceptual structures, including actual and imaginary percepts, as a key epistemic vehicle for solving motor-control problems; and (3) promote a view of abstract thinking as movement-grounded and movement-oriented perceptual dynamics. Probing toward theoretical synergy between these traditionally disparate fields of research, the present article is built as an interdisciplinary conversation between two researchers—of mathematics education and movement science, respectively—who become aware of their intellectual alignment, garner new insights and inspirations from each other’s work, and speculate on implications of this concordance for their fields.
