At the dawn of the 20th century while humanity has increasingly integrated into a virtual world, educational concepts have gone through important changes. Thus, the objective of this research is to review two main modalities in education which can be enhanced through technology: streaming education and online learning. With the increasingly use of YouTube, researchers realized that information, which was previously flat and visual, was transformed into video and started a long way where it allows the user to empower and build their knowledge based on tutorials and animations. Currently the evolution of technology has created a different path, marked by a growing need to experience live video, which is nothing more than the transmission of digital content in real time. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the impact generated by the transmission of live educational content in comparison with the learning that can be obtained through tutorial videos and online platforms. The research is based on literature review which allows to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each of the proposed standards, and how they affect the acquisition of knowledge of students. It is clear that this type of argument is based in most cases on the student's perception of their environment, but it is also important to understand that the student, object of this study, analyze the pros and cons of the implementation of both technologies, this is where the importance of the tutor working with either using streaming video tools or elements of online information management is helpful to investigate. Further discussion of this research give insights into a hybrid scheme in which both technologies can be combined.

HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) has become a predominant technique for delivering videos in the Internet. Due to its adaptive behavior according to changing network conditions, it may result in video quality variations that negatively impact the Quality of Experience (QoE) of the user. In this paper, we propose Days of Future Past, an optimizationbased Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) algorithm over HTTP/3. Days of Future Past takes advantage of an optimization model and HTTP/3 features, including (i) stream multiplexing and (ii) request cancellation. We design a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model that determines the optimal video qualities of both the next segment to be requested and the segments currently located in the buffer. If better qualities for buffered segments are found, the client will send corresponding HTTP GET requests to retrieve them. Multiple segments (i.e., retransmitted segments) might be downloaded simultaneously to upgrade some buffered but not yet played segments to avoid quality decreases using the stream multiplexing feature of QUIC. HTTP/3's request cancellation will be used in case retransmitted segments will arrive at the client after their playout time. The experimental results shows that our proposed method is able to improve the QoE by up to 33.9%.

Como parte de un ejercicio de reflexión histórica de un fenómeno crucial de tal calado en la historia mexicana, americana y europea que se viene realizando desde el mismo siglo XVI, en los últimos años han aparecido un grupo de documentales históricos y series televisivas que tienen como tema principal y/o narran el contexto de la trama de la “Conquista de México”, todos los cuales se sitúan en el terreno de la recreación histórica y el género cinematográfico de época, y como tales buscan reflejar la realidad histórica del momento, representando distintas miradas que pueden coadyuvar a explorar nuevas vías para la reinterpretación de nuestra historia más fundamental. Dentro de ese marco, el presente aporte tiene como objetivos generales identificar las perspectivas históricas, historiográficas y cinematográficas de un documental histórico: Hernán Cortés. Un hombre entre Dios y el Diablo (2016), y dos series históricas: Malinche (2018) y Hernán (2019), todos disponibles en línea, de reciente aparición y centrados en la empresa cortesiana de descubrimiento y conquista del llamado “Imperio Mexica”; así como examinar muy brevemente el papel de estas representaciones cinematográficas como recursos didácticos en la divulgación de la historia de la conquista (indo)española de México al gran público del siglo XXI, y la enseñanza del proceso de colonización y explotación de los pueblos amerindios por parte de Europa entre las audiencias contemporáneas.

The boundaries of the crime genre are fluid, dynamic and flexible. It explains the number of subgenres that have emerged out of the broader umbrella. There are multiple strong intertextual links between texts. Many crimes fiction texts have combined with other genres such as drama, action, romance and science to produce generic hybrids and because of the abundance of crime fiction, there is extreme variety within the genre. This includes texts that stay well within the conventions of the genre and those that push and blur the boundaries of the genre. With the rise in the content produced by streaming services and the digital boom that is being witnessed in India, the kind of content produced makes for an interesting study. Recently released Indian mafia and gangster-based shows Sacred Games and Mirzapur particularly become subjects for the study because while they evidently follow the codes and conventions of the crime genre, they open the debate about the limitations of the taxonomies of genres, the world of hybrid genres. A discourse analysis was conducted to observe how media texts may involve multiple combination of genres to form a sub-genre. These shows fit most aptly in the crime genre but also overlap with the conventions of the drama and action genre. It was observed that television texts remain important elements in the cultural practices of genres, and traditional narrative genres remain central for television and eventually form conventions that define the pieces that constitute the genre.

Através da Hallyu, a Coreia do Sul tem se tornado um polo significativo de produção de cultura pop. Devido às particularidades do mercado de TV e internet no país, as empresas de streaming estrangeiras têm tido dificuldade para crescerem lá. Em contrapartida, a Coreia se estabeleceu como um dos maiores mercados nacionais de streaming de vídeo na Ásia. A partir de uma revisão da literatura e de matérias jornalísticas, identificamos dois fenômenos significativos. Primeiro, um grupo de conglomerados locais se juntaram para formar a plataforma Wavve com o objetivo de enfrentar o “mal estrangeiro”, representado pela presença da Netflix no país. Segundo, a indústria sul-coreana está se utilizando da influência global das plataformas estrangeiras para expandir o alcance da Hallyu. In this article, we investigate Netflix, questioning the expectations of the public and the critics regarding changes that arise from the introduction of this service in the market. From the analysis of trade press coverage, access data, and the company's investment trends, we inquire what types of TV consumption experiences are at stake in the discourse promoted by analysts and novelty enthusiasts. We also discuss how evaluations on these platforms renew the ongoing controversies about television quality. In spite of the type of elucubration awakened by the sensation of ubiquity and stylistic revolutions, we will defend that the practices related to streaming work, in fact, as updated models of linear TV.

The patterns of content consumption have changed drastically over a period of the last 20 years and as technology is making advancements in almost every arena, the evolution can be seen in the trends of entertainment and media services Consumers have now turned towards Over-The-Top i.e OTT Platforms which allow them to stream their choice of content via the means of the internet, instead of holding on to the more traditional forms of media. Consumers are now ready to pay more and more in order to customize their streaming experience at their convenience and this in turn is helping the entertainment industry thrive. Ever since the lockdown was imposed in the country in lieu of the Coronavirus pandemic, more and more consumers are seeking out ways to keep themselves entertained at home. This study focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic towards the consumer buying behaviour towards OTT platforms, specifically exploring the market of subscription based streaming services. By using various statistical tools, information and numeric data was collected and research and analysis was conducted. This study will help various marketers and the employees of the entertainment industry in getting a closer look at the expectations of both the actual and potential customer base and assist them in delivering a better service while increasing engagement.

El sector audiovisual español presenta una elevada masculinización y todavía son minoritarias las producciones de liderazgo femenino en cine y televisión. Esta investigación busca observar cómo la rápida consolidación de las plataformas streaming y la intensificación de su política de producción en los mercados nacionales puede inferir en esta realidad. El objetivo es averiguar qué impacto generan estos nuevos operadores sobre la empleabilidad y el liderazgo de las mujeres dentro de la industria española. Con este propósito, se estudian las plataformas over de top (OTT) internacionales con producción propia que operan en España. Se analiza la diversidad en las estructuras laborales, por ámbitos de especialización y por niveles de responsabilidad, tomando como muestra las producciones españolas originales estrenadas desde su llegada a España en 2015 hasta principio de 2020. Los resultados muestran un ligero impacto positivo de las OTT sobre la empleabilidad de la mujer en la industria audiovisual, en un sector que, no obstante, continua altamente masculinizado.

En México, con el sexenio de José López Portillo aparecieron dos películas icónicas que dieron origen al cine de ficheras, el “Tívoli” (1974) de Alberto Isaac, con Alfonso Arau, Lyn May y Carmen Salinas, donde se retrata la vida nocturna del teatro de revista Tívoli. “Bellas de noche” (1975) de Miguel Delgado, con Sasha Montenegro y Jorge Rivero, muestra la vida nocturna del cabaret y el vedetismo. Ambos filmes se consideran pioneros en los argumentos urbanos donde la comedia, el amor y el sexo se verían reflejados en una industria que explotaba a la mujer como objeto sexual. A global pandemic caused by COVID-19 virus since December 2019 has developed into a fearsome situation more than any common global contagion. In combating COVID-19 worldwide, governments instigated a precautionary cordon sanitaire in various degrees. Live music, cinema and film festivals were inevitably cancelled, causing artists to become alienated from their audience. This paper aims to illuminate how practitioners of the creative industry cope with the drastic disruption due to the COVID-19 outbreak as well as the means of regenerating 'life', which refers to that of a creative artist in a narrower sense, and to that of the industry in a broader sense. Adopting a combined methodology of autoethnography and virtual ethnography, the authors explore their encounters with the informants and the development of the creative arts scene. The subject of disruption and regeneration in the creative arts industry is approached through feasible methods and tools they could render in this unique lived experience. They hope to construct a view containing some perspectives on the transcendence of creative practitioners from the disruption to the survival of the pandemic's impact, as well as the regeneration of how creative arts would persevere in the 'new normal' of the post-COVID-19 era.

A indústria audiovisual no Brasil adapta-se frente às transformações tecnológicas da convergência midiática. A acessibilidade cultural e comunicacional é um aspecto indispensável no consumo para Pessoas com Deficiências (PcDs). A Agência Nacional de Cinema (ANCINE) estimula a acessibilidade como política pública. A pesquisa de caráter exploratório analisa a inserção de conteúdo acessível na Netflix, na Globoplay – maiores streamings no Brasil – e no PingPlay - um serviço específico para PcDs e discute os processos de produção. Método qualitativo-descritivo, com pesquisas documentais e estudos de casos. Os resultados apontam para a pressão dos PcDs em cobrar a acessibilidade nestes serviços, demonstrando as dimensões da tradução como mecanismo de expansão de mercado, e a luta pelo direito social da acessibilidade. O fomento governamental empodera as PcDs, estimulando o processo de produção de obras acessíveis desde a sua concepção, embora a distribuição ainda seja um desafio.

Este trabalho analisa a plataforma de streaming Twitch a partir da perspectiva da midiatização, um processo que concebe o fenômeno de novos padrões de interação promovidos pelas mídias em sua relação com a sociedade. Compreendemos que a plataforma leva os usuários a novas experiências no mundo dos games, promovendo interferências na relação original, como o ato de assistir, narrar ou se inserir como figura influente, permitindo o advento de novas celebridades na sociedade do espetáculo.

Netflix se ha convertido en el precursor de un modelo de comunicación audiovisual que ha generado una fuerte relación con los usuarios, quienes adquieren mayor autonomía y poder para consumir contenidos como series y películas. Paralelo a ello, se observan nuevos hábitos de consumo televisivo en los jóvenes universitarios, quienes dedican mayor tiempo a la visualización de contenidos que ofrecen las plataformas de streaming.
Es por ello que el presente estudio busca determinar la relación de la comunicación audiovisual de Netflix con los nuevos hábitos de consumo televisivo de los estudiantes de Comunicación Social de la UNMSM, Lima 2021 a través de una investigación de enfoque cuantitativo y con diseño correlacional, transversal y no experimental. Por tal razón, se aplicó una encuesta de 30 preguntas cerradas a una muestra de 199 estudiantes de segundo a quinto año.
Se encontró que sí existe relación moderada y significativa entre la comunicación audiovisual de Netflix con los nuevos hábitos de consumo televisivo de los estudiantes de Comunicación Social de la UNMSM, Lima 2021. En efecto, nueve de cada diez estudiantes afirmaron que esto se debe a la experiencia que ofrece Netflix, así como la oportunidad de acceder a los contenidos en cualquier espacio o lugar, la autonomía y el poder del usuario, la mejora continua y la interactividad de la plataforma, la calidad y creatividad de los contenidos, y el servicio de descarga. Del mismo modo, la investigación también concluyó que existe relación moderada y significativa entre el modelo convergente y la transmedialidad de Netflix con los nuevos hábitos de consumo televisivo de la muestra estudiada.

Human-algorithm interaction emerges as the new frontier of studies involving interaction design and interface ergonomics. This paper aims to discuss the effectiveness and communicability of streaming media recommendation systems , based on machine learning, from users' mental model point of view. We examined the content consumption practices on the Netflix platform, identifying some sensitive aspects of the interaction with recommendation algorithms. One-on-one semi-structured interviews were applied to a sample of students from three different universities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We realised that interview-ees had not correctly understood how the system works and have not formed an adequate mental model about tracked data and how it is processed to create per-sonalised lists. Another issue concerns data privacy: Users have revealed a suspicion concerning algorithms and what might happen to usage data, not only in the Netflix platform but also in other services that use algorithm-based recommendation. Interviewees' responses suggested that there may be communication failures, and UX designers should strive to make it visible how the system tracks and processes user interaction data.

Tendo como ponto de partida a grande profusão das séries documentais nos serviços de streaming, a pesquisa busca investigar as principais estratégias utilizadas em seus processos de construção para atingir um público cada vez mais amplo e já acostumado com o cinema e a televisão ficcional. Interessa à pesquisa identificar de que forma as semelhanças estruturais e narrativas com as já estabelecidas séries de ficção – como plot twists, cliffhangers e dramatização – são explorados como fatores que interligam os formatos ficcional e documental, visto que as diferentes formas de narrativas, a partir das crescentes inovações tecnológicas, caminham para uma maior interlocução e hibridismo entre elas. Se analisará, portanto, o apelo de tais séries, feitas em maioria para serviços de streaming, para atingir uma maior dramaticidade, buscando também contar histórias reais que mais parecem ficção, atingindo o interesse de muitas pessoas que antes não consumiam o gênero documental, reformulando a visão popular e os paradigmas em relação ao documentário como um todo.

Através da analítica foucaultiana do discurso, foi possível notar nas transmissões de maio a setembro de 2020 como o modo lifestream pode construir o personagem político do mito por meio de ficções que parecem operar como terapia ideológica para determinados grupos. A supremacia branca, o panóptico ingerível do farmacopoder e a pornografia sutil aparecem como alguns dos eixos do capitalismo gore no Brasil que, no efeito de placebo, hasteia a bandeira nacional nos valores da família e no argumento da cristofobia.

Handoff in a distributed IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN network is a source of significant amount of problems on the video transmission environment. The visual quality of video streaming applications is lowered when stations are in handoff status. In this paper we introduce an architecture of a session proxy (SP), which tries to preserve the quality of the streaming video upon each handoff between access points. We have evaluated thresholds of RSSI and Loss Frame Rate (LFR) for deciding the moment when the handoff process shall begin. Our solution performance was evaluated in a testbed implementation for MPEG-4 video-on-demand with one video server (VLS) and two FreeBSD based access points supporting Mobile IP, DHCP Server and IAPP approach.
