The Assembly of the Republic (Portuguese: Assembleia da República, pronounced [ɐsẽˈblɐjɐ dɐ ʁɛˈpublikɐ]), commonly referred to as simply Parliament (Portuguese: Parlamento), is the unicameral parliament of Portugal. According to the Constitution of Portugal, the parliament "is the representative assembly of all Portuguese citizens". The constitution names the assembly as one of the country's organs of supreme authority. It is located in a historical building in Lisbon, referred to as Palácio de São Bento (Palace of Saint Benedict), the site of an old Benedictine monastery. The Palácio de São Bento has been the seat of the Portuguese parliaments since 1834 (Cortes until 1910, Congress from 1911 to 1926 and National Assembly from 1933 to 1974). (en)

L'Assemblea della Repubblica (in portoghese: Assembleia da República) è il Parlamento portoghese. È situato in una costruzione storica di Lisbona, il Palácio de São Bento, un edificio neoclassico costruito sopra un monastero benedettino. Secondo la costituzione portoghese, l'Assemblea, unicamerale con 230 deputati, "è l'assemblea rappresentativa di tutti i cittadini portoghesi." La costituzione definisce l'Assemblea come uno degli organi dell'autorità suprema dello stato. I poteri dell'Assemblea della Repubblica sono: sfiduciare un governo tramite , cambiare le leggi dello Stato, emendare la Costituzione (questo procedimento richiede una maggioranza di due terzi). Oltre che questi poteri chiave, la costituzione garantisce all'Assemblea ampi poteri legislativi, un notevole controllo sui conti statali, il potere di autorizzare il governo a modificare tasse ed assegnare i prestiti di stato, quello di ratificare trattati e accordi internazionali ed il dovere di approvare o rifiutare le decisioni dal presidente della Repubblica nel dichiarare guerra o stipulare pace.
