Perfectionism in sports has been shown to be associated with burnout in athletes. Whether perfectionism predicts longitudinal changes in athlete burnout, however, is still unclear. Using a two-wave cross-lagged panel design, the present study examined perfectionistic strivings, perfectionistic concerns, and athlete burnout in 101 junior athletes (mean age 17.7 years) over 3 months of active training. When structural equation modeling was employed to test a series of competing models, the best-fitting model showed opposite patterns for perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns. Whereas perfectionistic concerns predicted increases in athlete burnout over the 3 months, perfectionistic strivings predicted decreases. The present findings suggest that perfectionistic concerns are a risk factor for junior athletes contributing to the development of athlete burnout whereas perfectionistic strivings appear to be a protective factor.

Özet Bu çalışmanın amacı, spor bilimleri fakültesindeki sporcu öğrencilerde bilinçli farkındalığın (mindfulness) bazı demografik değişkenler açısından incelenmesidir. Ankara ve Karabük'teki devlet üniversitelerinin spor bilimleri fakültesinde öğrenim gören 295 sporcu öğrenci (% 41,7'si kadın, %58,3 erkek, X̅ = 22,01 yaş, Ss=3,44) çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Orijinali Thienot vd. Abstract It was sought to examine the mindfulness according to some demographic variables in student-athletes of sports sciences faculty. 295 athletes (41.7% women, 58.3% men, X̅ = 22.01 age, Sd=3.44) studying in the sports sciences faculty of public universities in Ankara and Karabük (Turkey) were included the study. Data obtained from the Demographic Information Form and the Mindfulness Inventory for Sport which was originally developed by Thienot (2014) and adapted to Turkish by Tingaz (2019), were analyzed by SPSS 23. According to the results of the study, the scores obtained from the general and subscales of mindfulness do not differ according to gender, sports type, sports year and previous yoga practice. The mean scores obtained from the mindfulness total score, awareness and non-judgmental subscale do not differ significantly according to the department and the best score in a competition. In the refocus subscale, however, the mean of the students who study in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching is significantly higher than the students in the Department of Sports Management. In addition, the refocus subscale, the mean scores of athletes who have a best score in Turkey is significantly higher than the athletes who have not any score in a competition. A coaching philosophy is a personal doctrine, or individual set of experiences and values, that guides a coach’s beliefs, actions, and coaching style (Huber, 2013). The humanistic coaching philosophy involves a collaborative coach/athlete process which considers individual athlete differences, abilities, and goals, with the long-term aim of developing a self-confident and selfregulated athlete (Lyle, 1999). Opposite of the traditional model where success is determined by wins or losses, within the humanistic approach winning is redefined so that the process is emphasized and achievement of individual athlete goals indicates success. Through coach interviews, athlete interviews, training session observations, and artifact collection, the aim of this case study was to explore the coaching philosophy and methods of a successful men’s NCAA Division I cross country coach and explore to what extent they are humanistic. Definition of success emerged as a primary theme where results indicat...

Given the many benefits of international sporting success understanding the development and long-term sustainability of an elite sporting career have become an important pursuit worldwide. Despite decades of research little is known about the development of elite senior Australian Track and Field athletes, therefore this study aimed to understand the major influences contributing to their development and success. A Track and Field Athlete Development questionnaire was used to collect data from 73 Olympic and World Championship level athletes. Analysis indicated athletes progressed to the elite level via six different pathways; however, the majority follows a linear pathway from junior to elite senior athlete. Further, results demonstrated the key influencing factors during development included later specialization, involvement in other sports during adolescence and strong social support. In addition, growing up in a major city and completing a University degree were also common feat...

As part of a coach's informal learning process, previous athletic experience is a foundational element of an athlete's future coaching career, determining the perspectives, beliefs, and behaviors the coach will use in their interactions with athletes. Although it is investigated more generally, previous athletic experience is rarely considered in understanding specific coaching behaviors related to supporting athletes' needs and motivation. This study investigated 15 novice coaches' personal athletic and coaching experiences to determine how these experiences influenced their own coaching practice with regard to the engagement in autonomy-supportive and/or controlling behaviors. The interview data revealed that novice coaches used their past experiences to inform their practice in the following three ways: (a) experienced controlling behaviors as an athlete, which transferred to a desire to be more autonomy supportive in coaching; (b) experienced controlling behaviors as an athlete, which transferred to a desire to be more controlling in coaching; and (c) experienced autonomy-supportive behaviors as an athlete, which transferred to a desire to be more autonomy supportive in coaching. These results suggest the importance of considering previous athletic experience as an antecedent to coaches' engagement in autonomy-supportive behaviors.

In this research are included 75 boys of l3 years, * 6 months years of age, primary school students from Gjilan-Kosovo. The aim of the research is factorization of the motor space and to determine the impact of some motor tests in reahzing the 60 meters sprint. Applied tests in this research are: long jump (LJ), high jump (HJ), standing triple jump (STRJ), foot taping (FT), side steps (SS), sit and reach test (SRT) and 60 meters sprint running (60SR). Through factor analysis are designed two characteristic roots, in the first column are concentrated variables of long jump (LJ), high jump (HJ), standing triple jump (STRJ), and have labeled this factor as explosive strength and speed. While in the second column are concentrated variables of foot taping (FT), side steps (SS), sit and reach test (SRT), and this factor we have labeled as coordination and agility factor. From the results obtained through regression analysis, it is observed that the greatest impact of motor tests at 60 meters sprint, had tests belonging to explosive force long jump (LJ), high jump (HJ), standing triple jump (STRJ). Processing of the results we have achieved by the methods of factorial analysis and regression analysis through the SPSS statistical package.

Sport annually mobilizes millions of people across Europe: as practitioners in a wide variety of competitive, educational, or recreational contexts, and as spectators, who are physically present or following events through the mass media. This book presents original research into modern sport funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Its aim is to examine the distinctive contribution made by this complex phenomenon to the construction of European identities. Attention is focused on sport's social significance, as a set of mass-mediated practices and spectacles giving rise to a network of images, symbols, and discourses. The book seeks to explore, and ultimately to explain, the processes of representation and mediation involved in the sporting construction, and subsequent renegotiation, of local, national, and, increasingly, global identities. It offers a survey of key developments in sporting Europe - from the mid-nineteenth century to the present, and from the Atlantic to the Urals - presenting findings by acknowledged international experts and emerging scholars at the level of individuals, communities, regions, nation-states, and Europe as a whole, in both its geographical and political incarnations. Its focus on representation offers a broadly conceived, and consciously inclusive, approach to issues of 'Europeanness' in modern and contemporary sport.

Nations realising the political and developmental possibilities in hosting a mega sport event is a trend that has been increasing in recent decades. To take one example, Qatar is one of the most prolific nations in bidding and hosting sports events as a means of augmenting the nation’s image. Building on Joseph Nye’s conception of soft power, this paper examines how Qatar deliberately uses sport as a tool for global nation branding to promote their political objectives. We set out by explaining how nations can benefit from hosting these mega events and the underlying rationale for Qatar’s investment in them. We then focus on Athletics and explore the links between the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and Qatar in relation to the bidding process for the World Athletics Championships. We conclude by arguing why the IAAF 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha backfired on Qatar’s soft power and nation branding strategy. The athletics championships, which were the last key test ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has created doubt as to whether nations like Qatar, with a questionable human rights record and extreme climatic challenges; heat, should be allowed to host sport mega events.

Background: Performance disaster in athletes stem from multifaceted areas of crises, which may range from physical musculoskeletal problems to physiological, psychomotor, and psychobiological deficiencies as well. Bulk of experimental studies emphasized on introduction of biofeedback intervention as effective psychological skill training. Aim: This present review intended to systematically review published research literatures to (i) provide some authentic information on impacts of biofeedback or neurofeedback intervention training on performance enhancement in some specific athletic skills, (ii) identify etiological issues associated with disastrous performance evident among athletes and (iii) investigate on the biofeedback training regimes, and to identify the salient features of the regimes, which had relative contribution on athletic performance enhancement. This article also intended to examine the prevalent and existing theoretical constructs and to recommend future course of research experimentation in this domain of interest. Method: Several databases such as-PubMed, WOS, SCOPUS, SportDiscus, PsychINFO, PsycARTICLES, ProQuest, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and NDL (National Digital Library) databases were methodically searched for articles on effectiveness of Biofeedback intervention training on skilful athletic performance, published between 2010 and 2020. Results: Findings of this systematic review work, based on available literatures, however, claimed the possible beneficial impact of composite introduction of biofeedback intervention in different modalities, on athletic performance. The overall effect size was evident as 1.11, with a confidence interval of 0.76, 1.45. Conclusions: Numerous studies were on biofeedback intervention were conducted, but majority of those were evident to lack in authenticity and methodological transparency. Authentic RCT studies on biofeedback intervention, however, confirmed efficacy of biofeedback interventions on athletic performance.

Our research work has fixed as objective, to apprehend the report of mental preparation for athletic performance from a study of a population of Algerian athletes. Sports performance defined by Platonov, V.N (1984.) as being " the maximum possibilities of an individual in a discipline at a given moment in its development" involves several other determinants. And this definition has the interest to introduce "the concept of threshold or level of performance", which are quantifiable, as defined by time, distance, power. In contrast, the physical appearance which is much easier to quantify and evaluate, it seemed more that random to define this 'process' that unites a sports result in the specific field of the individual mind. And for this, we are interested in our study, this pane, in the matter of the psychological variables that differentiate individuals between them and to, "everything that distinguishes the champions of other normal individuals: differential psychology.'' Durand, M. (1987). And we asked why mental preparation is so important in the realization of the sports performance? What are its methods, how to determine its effectiveness? The intervention of the psychologist through a descriptive language full observation taken upstream, and has designed to try to understand that which is expressed, by his actions, emotions and attitudes in a stressful environment and in its "moments of great solitude." In other words, we are trying to assign to this mental factor 'discriminating quality' so coveted by the athlete and his coach.

This study examined the burnout from the perspective of management. The
survey sought to identify what kind of leadership style was in the workplace,
where the subjects were due to burnout. At the same time I studied burnout
process, ie, how it occurred and how the subjects they are recovered from
the incident. The purpose of this study was to answer the questions: What is
burnout? How the burnout occurs? What are the effects of the burnout?
Objective of the study was to find the ways of management in order to
promote the well-being and thus reduce the exhaustion.
The study was conducted as an empirical qualitative study and the material
was collected with interviews which were halfstructured. The study was
based on information from the literature made of management and burnout.
The report was attached to burnout, well-being, management, employee
skills, mentoring, development discussions and work orientation concepts.
Management frames were found in self-management, other management
and shared leadership character set. Related to the management were
essential the management and the leadership.
The study found leadership and the management as significant impact on
well-being at work, and they are generated through the burnout. An important
observation from this study was the fact that in the past was mainly burnout
stress and a variety of studies has found that burnout essential elements in
order to be a great deal. In addition, it was found that well-being can be
improved substantially when the management is subject to each as
individual. One observation was that the atmosphere can be substantially
improved by using open information and to build good atmosphere may be
extended by using people outside the workplace, which may include
occupational health nurses, and other external supervisor.

Background: Females combat sport athletes are likely to partake in rapid weight reduction strategies prior to competitions. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between weight cutting habits of female combat sport athletes and the risk of developing the female athlete triad. Methods: 102 female combat sport athletes (amateur=40; professional=62; 28.8±4.5y), competing in boxing (n=30), kickboxing (n=12), and mixed martial arts (n=60), completed two questionnaires. An adapted version of the Rapid Weight Loss Questionnaire (RWLQ) was used to determine the severity of athletes' weight cutting behaviors, and the Low Energy Availability in Females Questionnaire (LEAF-Q) was used to determine female athlete triad risk. Data was analyzed to determine correlations between LEAF-Q and RWLQ scores along with weight cutting behaviors. Scores were also compared between competition level and combat sports. Results: The results of this study showed that 38% of female combat sport athletes were at risk of developing the female athlete triad. Significant correlation between RWLQ and LEAF-Q scores (p=0.013; r=0.244, r 2 =0.060) were noted. A significant difference (p=0.006) between the RWLQ scores of amateurs and professionals was also noted, with professionals engaging in more severe weight cutting behavior. Mixed martial artists reported the highest RWLQ and LEAF-Q scores, which were significantly greater than boxers. No other correlations between LEAF-Q and weight cutting behaviors were noted. Conclusion: Despite a small effect size (r²=0.060), the findings of this study demonstrate that more severe weight cutting behaviors may increase the female athlete triad risk among female combat sport athletes.

Being aggressive have been acknowledged in combat sports competition to be adaptive and socially acceptable, essential for athletes be motivated in training and competition phases, Go-ahead, Tripping someone, and Assertive styles are Aggressive styles that had been tested with Mental Toughness, a developmental psychological construct that would involve a feeling of self-efficacy, emotional regulations, feeling of autonomy and control perceived with extensive combat experiences. Correlation results of the study show a positive correlation with Go-Ahead and Assertive aggressive styles, using a Regression analysis, the results show that Go-ahead and assertive aggressive styles are predictors of high Mental Toughness scores. The implications of the study can help in creating an Aggressive Efficacy oriented mentoring and coaching program that fighters, coaches, can use in screening mental preparation and aggressive styles of their members. this would also aid in reducing any unwanted conflicts that can lead to legal and safety concerns, and encourage members both beginners and veteran to try competitive combat sports as a learning and developmental experience

In late 1933, L'Osservatore Romano fuelled an argument against Il Littoriale, mouthpiece of the Fascist sport policy, about women’s sport: the Vatican Italian-speaking newspaper was against the public women’s athletic meetings, and the “immoral” shorts dressed by the young Italian athletes, such as Ondina Valla, going-to-be the first Italian woman to win an Olympic gold medal (1936, Berlin). Which was the situation of Italian female sports, at that time? Which was the influence of new women models coming from US? What was considered “immoral” by conservative people in 1933 Italy watching a women’s athletic or swimming meeting? How Hollywood stars could help Ondina and her mates on the road of female emancipation? These are the questions this essay is going to answer, helped by a lot of historical images, useful to reconstruct a whole collective imagination.
-------------

ABSTRACT
In the prescription of training programs aimed at basketball players,
periodization is a tool of crucial importance. Knowing how to properly periodize the biomotor capabilities inherent in a sport is a skill that the strength and conditioning coach needs to develop. There are different models of periodization available in the scientific literature. Identifying the most appropriate periodization model and implementing it in the phases of the season is a complex task. In conjunction with periodization, we have systematic control of training loads that, if well distributed and monitored, can guide the team's athletic performance. In this framework of processes, based on relevant scientific concepts and research, this presentation discusses how physical fitness and sports form can be adequately improved in basketball players.

From Herakles’ slaying of the Nemean lion, which is portrayed in a fashion similar to wrestling on Attic vases, to literary references to athletic competition as a substitute for single combat, to the presence of Ares and Agōn side by side on the ivory and gold table at Olympia where the victors’ wreaths were kept, competition and combat have a long relationship and history of tension in Greek myth and culture. Though this does not mean that the origination of athletic competition in ancient Greece was necessarily martial, several literary examples from the Classical Greek through Imperial Roman periods make clear that a belief in an inextricable, etiological link between combat and athletic competition was widespread among ancient authors and observers. This belief, in turn, contrasts interestingly with the shifting role of athletic competition in ancient Hellenic culture, particularly with regard to its relationship with combat. This paper utilizes the hoplitodromos, or race in armor, as an exemplar of that belief, and of the subsequent devolution of Greek athletics as a whole. As the growing prevalence of hoplite warfare reduced the opportunity for warriors to earn kleos aphthitōn on the battlefield, athletic competitions became a partial replacement for the lost opportunities to achieve eternal glory. Further, the rise of a classical “gymnasion culture,” which valued physical beauty, youth, and eroticism most highly, may have sparked a pushback on the part of our ancient sources, who sought in return to emphasize all the more the martial practicality of athletic training and competitive events, which many saw as the proper role and logical origin of athletics within Greek society.

Although girls and women in many societies avidly participate in sports, they have been traditionally underrepresented compared to boys and men. In this review, we address the apparent sex differences in sports interest and motivation from an evolutionary perspective. First, we demonstrate that females’ underrepresentation generally reflects lesser interest, not merely fewer opportunities for engagement. Moreover, there is mounting evidence that male and female athletes generally differ in their motivation, specifically their competitiveness and risk taking. Second, we examine the functional explanations for sports. We argue that the courtship display hypothesis applies mainly to females; the spectator lek hypothesis applies chiefly to males; and that two other hypotheses—the allying with coalitions hypothesis and the development of skills hypothesis—are important for both females and males. Third, we explore the proximate causes for the sex differences in sports interest and motivation. We show that while there is compelling evidence that prenatal hormones contribute, the evidence that socialization plays a role remains equivocal. We conclude by discussing key findings and identifying areas for further research.
