The purpose of this study is to investigate the tourism policies of Turkey in the period of planned development which started in 1963. It is a descriptive study in terms of purpose and a qualitative study in terms of data. The data were obtained from secondary sources and analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. According to the five-year development plans and the Tourism Strategy of Turkey 2023 document, Turkey's tourism policies have been created economically. In particular, the first four plans have often emphasized the economic orientation of tourism and mass tourism. The fifth plan highlighted the diversification of tourism, while the sixth plan highlighted the participation of the local community in tourism. The seventh plan aims to meet the expectations of local people and tourists with a competitive and productive tourism economy. The eighth, ninth and tenth plans have emphasized that the investments paying attention to physical and cultural environment should be supported for spread of tourism all over the country and year. Moreover, in the last three development plans and Tourism Strategy of Turkey-2023 document, the participation of different stakeholders in decision mechanisms and focusing on the tourism types generating more tourism revenue policies have been adopted.

Tourism was a constantly growing industry until the halt brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. In cities, its negative impact was increasing, with significant cases of overcrowding. COVID-19 has emerged as an exceptional disruptive stage, yet it is also an opportunity to abandon the rush towards unsustainability. This study is a critical analysis of tourism, looking at the most appropriate post-pandemic perspective for urban cultural tourism, based on sustainability and leaving aside the search for profit as the ultimate goal. The main objective is to make proposals for an alternative paradigm. This is a theoretical paper that draws on a literature review of 180 works of scientific reference. Complementarily, information published by the media is accessed and direct observation is carried out as fieldwork. Proposals are made on limiting the number of visitors, improving guided visits, tourist routes, experiential tourism, and virtual tours. We also propose a new centralised tourism governance and regulation of private agents. Therefore, the present text is of interest for public representatives working in the field of urban tourism.

This paper identifies opportunities and some barriers to developing sites of religious worship for tourism to maximise income and engage appropriate resources allocation strategies. The authors have investigated tourism development that is sympathetic to sacred purposes at these sites over several years. Religious sites are now acknowledging that homogeneous supply responses may no longer be appropriate. Each special site demands a heterogeneous response of site guardians to changeable demand and careful evaluation of how to maximise income generated from very limited resources. This necessitates improved skills in guardians to build appropriate point of sale products and services that fit with consumption expectatio...

The existing practical research that social media and location intelligence in tourism is utilising a part of the possibilities that big data analytics can offer. Therefore, innovative big data analytics applications can provide new knowledge about behavioural data and perceptions in tourism destinations. This research develops an innovative approach to leveraging geotagged user-generated content in location-based social networks (LBSNs)for tourism destinations. In contrast to the conventional spatio-temporal analysis, valuable knowledge is extracted about travellers’ behaviour, experiences, and opinions of tourist destinations. Our approach’s contribution has been demonstrated using user-generated content for the two largest islands in the Mediterranean sea, Crete and Cyprus. The results of our study provide significant insights into the characteristics of the visitors in specific spots, their preferences, opinions and their tempo-spatial movements in tourism destinations – offering valuable information to tourism stakeholders for instant and effective strategic decision making that can lead to innovation and value creation.

The growth of literary tourism in the past decades presents several challenges, especially given the existence of inevitable gaps between the expectations of visitors and the cultural reality of destinations. Tour guides play a decisive role in mediating those differences, helping reconcile the appeal of literature with the material and immaterial heritage of the spaces visited. The promotion and experience of Mafra's National Palace (Portugal) based on the novel Baltasar and Blimunda, by Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago, constitutes a paradigmatic case, given the novel's clearly ideological stance. To ascertain the mediation strategies used by tour guides, a qualitative study was designed including participant observation of guided tours and interviews with the professionals involved. Although a challenge for tour guides, the use of the contrasting stance provided by the novel proved highly productive, allowing guides a greater discursive freedom and visitors a more differentiated and engaging experience of the site.

Tourism today plays a big role in the development and sustainable growth. Its role is highlighted in the sustainability of economic development of the country. In the global economy, its role is increasingly being seen as a sector with multi-dimensional effects such as: economic, environmental and social effects. ABSTRACT This paper analyses tourism development in the Agmon Lake site in Israel. Demand was assessed by analysing the perceptions of the site held by four different groups of respondents: tourism agents, tourism providers, visitors, and non-visitors. The study applied a methodology of comparative interview analysis to the four surveys. Supply-related aspects were assessed by examining the characteristics of the Agmon Lake site and its development process. The findings show that the differences between mass tourism, ecotourism, and niches such as bird watching continue to narrow and that it is currently extremely difficult if at all possible to distinguish between these types of tourism in theory and in practice.
