Braking systems in motor vehicles generally use a braking system that utilizes friction. The braking performance will decrease caused by using friction rapidly. To overcome this, as an alternative, an electromagnetic braking system can be used by utilizing eddy currents, such as eddy current brakes (ECB). Eddy currents are generated when the rotor pass the magnetic field of the electromagnet. The research aim is to design an ECB system. The performance of the disk design will be determined in this study. The study is about the tendency of the ECB properties. The finite element (FEM) method is used by modeling ECB performance. The experimental results were used to validate the result. The test showed the results of braking using aluminum disk showed the best performance in 12.03 Nm. From these results, the combination of the disks is needed by an appropriate disk design.

The braking system is one of the most important components of a vehicle. In general, the brakes will generate heat due to the braking process. The heat generated must be released into the environment to maintain braking performance at optimal conditions. In extreme conditions, braking will fail. The braking system can be developed as a braking support system is a non-contact braking system. One form of the non-contact braking system is the eddy current brake (ECB). ECB is an electric braking system with the principle of eddy current. In the ECB, overheating will result in decreased performance. The approach that can be taken to determine braking performance during heat generation is the modeling process using FEM. This study uses FEM to analyze the heat generated during braking. In addition to using FEM, research was carried out using experiments as a comparison. Analysis of heat generation in braking is needed to determine whether braking with ECB can be a backup and its potential ...

In this paper the authors propose the validation of a new mathematical model used for the evaluation of the longitudinal dynamic forces which appear on the traction, buffer and fastening devices during passenger trains braking. The following two cases are considered: a vehicle bound by a fixed system and launched on it at various initial speeds and the model of a train composed of two cars, braking at maximum circulation speed. The results are evaluated through the values of the forces and displacement of the buffers and the traction hook; also the results are correlated to those presented in the scientific literature.

To improve the efficiency of the operation of freight rolling stock at the present stage of development of the railway industry, it is important to introduce its modern designs. At the same time, special attention should be paid to the rolling stock brakes, as the most important structural unit in terms of traffic safety. According to studies of the technical condition of the brake equipment of freight wagons, it has been established that one of the most damaged units is brake pads. As a result of operating load conditions, they experience uneven wear of the working surface – wedge-dual wear. A study of the load of a composite brake pad of a freight wagon with wedge-dual wear has been carried out. It has been established that the presence of such wear causes an additional load on its structure, including thermal. In this regard, not only the pad destruction, but also a violation of the safety of train traffic can occur. The conducted studies will contribute to the creation of recomm...

Reed valves in a compressor are critical parts that have a high fatigue failure potential due to cyclic bending and impact caused by the cyclic nature of the compression process. A sudden failure of a valve renders the compressor useless. Although the refining process of methods of fatigue design has already taken more than 50 years, older criteria such as Gerber and Goodman models are still attractive for engineering design of high cycle fatigue components. This paper presents an investigation on the effect of nonzero mean stress on the design of valve reeds that are widely used in compressors. The investigation relates the choice of a mean stress compensation models, with the predicted fluctuating bending fatigue strength and estimated safety coefficient values. The calculations have been performed using Gerber, Goodman, Soderberg, ASME, Crossland, and Tsapi-Soh models. The most relevant goal of this paper is to verify the efficiency of classical and advanced stress based multiaxi...

The article discusses a methodology for assessing the functional suitability of brake systems to change the braking path of passenger cars, taking into account various operating conditions. The goal is achieved by using the method of mathematical modeling of the emergency braking process, taking into account the possible operating conditions of cars performing emergency braking at certain initial speeds, in particular, exceeding 100 km / h. Based on the analysis of scientific sources, it has been established that the determination of the braking efficiency of a vehicle classically occurs on the verge of blocking all wheels with known methods of distributing braking forces between the axles of the vehicle. In this case, the standards set the maximum value of the minimum deceleration and braking distance. In addition, the jump in the maximum possible value of the braking force between the wheels of each axle makes it possible to compare it with the requirements of DSTU 3649: 2010, and...

The braking torque mathematical modelling in electromagnetic eddy current brake (ECB) often ignores the skin effect that occurrs during operation. However this phenomenon can not be simply neglected. Therefore, this paper presents a mathematical model of braking torque for a unipolar axial type of ECB system with a non-magnetic disk, which considers the skin effects. The use of mathematical models that consider the existence of skin effects is significant in approaching the braking torque according to the actual condition. The utilization of generic calculations to the model of the ECB braking torque leads to invalid results. Hence, in this paper, the correction factor was added to improve the braking torque calculation as a comparator to the proposed equation. However, the modification and addition of the correction factor were only valid to estimate the low-speed regimes of torque, but very distant for the high-speed condition. From the comparison of calculated values using analyt...

The paper seeks to explore the effect of under belting a multiple V-belt drive on the life of a given sets of belts. Under belting a device means using fewer belts than recommended by good design practices. The experiment investigates the incremental reduction of the number of belts by one and the attendant effect on the life of the whole belts set. The experiment is based on ten belts being the normal required to drive the load. The experiment emphasizes the effect of reducing one V belt on the life of the whole set. The experiment was based on 100% efficiency on the whole life of the whole sets from 10 belts, which is the required to drive the load. Effect of belt creep was neglected. It was progressively decreased by one and the whole belt life was evaluated based on the reduction

The purpose of this study was to determine the motives, the brakes and the ways of using Social Networking Sites (SNS) based on dimensional models that describe national cultural values explaining and predicting behavior. The study used a qualitative method, we conducted face-to-face in-depth interviews with 32 Tunisian, 29 Indian, 20 Pakistani, 20 French and 20 Cana-dian participants. The data was collected and transcribed in each of the five countries by independent researchers for each country. However, the analysis of the data was carried out by a single researcher to eliminate bias. We concluded that cultural environment influences the way people communicate and use social networking sites. The sources of motivation, the brakes and the reasons for the non-use of SNS also depend on cultural aspects of each society. We conducted an intercontinental study where the countries studied represent the four continents of the World, namely North America, Africa, Asia and Europe.
