The impact schedule can represent delays, disruptions, or both. It is incumbent on the claims preparer to make that distinction. An impact schedule is predicated on a series or succession of events that are expected to increase overall duration or the critical path. In some cases the impact schedule reflects a reduction in overall duration. Such a document may accompany a claim for early completion, which may be compensable.

The planning and management of building design has historically focused upon traditional methods of planning such as Critical Path Method (CPM). Little effort is made to understand the complexities of the design process; instead design managers focus on allocating work packages where the planned output is a set of deliverables. All too often there is no attempt to understand and control the flow of information that gives rise to these deliverables. This paper proposes the combined use of the Analytical Design Planning ...

This paper describes the methodology and results obtained after productivity improvement work conducted on two consecutive building construction jobs. The first one was used to evaluate production rates and productivity, current construction methods, potentials and lacks of construction equipment, current construction planning methodology, and existing tools to asses productivity. These are briefly discussed in this paper. The second job was preplanned based on the experience and detailed documentation obtained in the first one. Work was conducted in order to “design” construction methods in detail, develop a detailed production planning based on the construction methods developed, select crew components and select their specific tasks, and design communication and control tools. Although the second job’s schedule and budget were originally calculated using standard methods (i.e. historical production rates), new schedule and budget were calculated based on the preplanning effort. Construction performance was measured against these values.

In a global supply chain many partnering firms are normally small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) that support a focal firm in the process of supplying of raw materials to the delivery of final products and services to end customers. In context to the supply chain of the focal firm, SMEs play a very crucial role in attaining cost efficiencies in procurement and production processes, and accurate & timely delivery of products and services to the end customers. But this requires a close and trustworthy relationship between the focal firm and associated SMEs. In the words of Hau L. Lee (2004), focal firm and SMEs (partnering firms) need to have alignment of interests amongst themselves to attain unmatched competitive advantage. But, surprisingly, it is observed that managers rarely emphasize on alignment of interests of partnering firms. This is primarily due to divergent mission and objectives of members of a supply chain. Scale of Operations and Structure of SMEs are also big hurdles to achieve the unanimity of objectives between a focal firm and SMEs. This paper tries to explore the objectives, activities and structure of SMEs that are possible sources of misalignment of interest of these firms with the focal firm. For this, orientation of firms is conceptualized, on which strategic, structural, cultural, resource and systems issues are targeted. The paper is conceptual one. The previous research conducted on the similar topic is taken as base for developing the concept.

Critical path method (CPM) is an important tool being used for coordination of various activities involved in a project. It has been used in a number of fields e.g. agriculture, aerospace, building construction, manufacturing industries, hospitals and medical science industries etc. It is deterministic model of coordination tools. Critical Path Method is used for projects of repeated nature e.g. building construction, manufacturing. Main elements of Critical path method are activities and nodes. An activity is represented by an arrow and node is represented by a circle. Dummy activities are used to fulfill the requirement of precedence and do not consume any resources. Length of arrow has no relation with time taken or resource requirements of an activity. Start of an activity is represented by tail of arrow and completion is represented by head of the arrow. Critical path is the path that has activities of zero float. Critical path in project network is longest path and gives the minimum time period in which the entire project can be completed. There can be more than one critical path in a project network diagram. This paper presents a state of the art theory of Critical Path Method (CPM).

The article explicated a case that has been reported in the progress and implementation process of the project. In the document found that risks characterized by high risk. After analysis by using one of the main traditional methods are still widely recommended (Critical-Path Analysis), it was found that: The planning described in the project baseline of the project was confirmed done without the use of this method. This article also found some weaknesses in the planning of scheduling that has been prepared, which caused the vulnerability and become potentially pose a risk, not only in the form of the addition of a significant project, but the effect on the implementation and outcome.

A well-planned construction schedule not only helps in outlining the pace of work but also how the work will get done. Two different kinds of project scheduling methods are employed for a sample road construction project; Critical Path Method (CPM) and Linear Scheduling Method (LSM). The aim of this study is to briefly evaluate and compare network programming techniques and linear scheduling techniques for a sample road construction project, by comparing Critical Path Method (CPM) and Linear Scheduling Method (LSM).

OVERVIEW Projects are an ongoing aspect of production activities and can range from bringing a new product onto the market to constructing an offshore oil rig. While most projects are unique one-off events, there are some that are cyclical in nature involving periodic activities such as plant maintenance. Large-scale projects consist of numerous jobs that must be completed, some in parallel and others in sequence by various individuals or groups. When there is a large number of interrelated jobs, project control can become very complex. In these circumstances, it is usually advisable to break up the project into smaller, logical components, usually referred to as tasks or activities. Because considerable expenditure is involved, a project has to be managed carefully to ensure that it is completed on time. Project management comprises the important functions of (i) planning (ii) scheduling and (iii) controlling project activities. The initial phase of project planning involves setting objectives and performance criteria (usually measured in terms of costs and time), identifying resource requirements, and assigning areas of responsibility. The practical phase of project control is basically a comparison between what has actually been completed against what was planned at the start. Rather than allow a project to be completed without any control checks, management designates certain intermediate activities that are considered particularly relevant, called milestones, at which progress will be evaluated. Project control uses milestones periodically to review a project's progress. If a milestone check indicates that a project is running late, then corrective action must be taken to bring the project back on course. Project scheduling focuses on the activities that make up the project. A schedule shows when each activity starts and ends and how long it will take to complete the activity, i.e., the activity's duration. Scheduling also shows how each activity is related to others in the project. Because projects often have important deadlines to meet, scheduling is a critical aspect of project management. Where there are a large number of interrelated activities, timing and coordination become very complex. Nowadays, project managers use computer software to help them identify those activities that must be finished on time in order to avoid delaying the entire project.

— There are two common used methods to find the minimum completion time for a project scheduling. These methods are Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT). In CPM, a network diagram, which is Activity on Node (AON), is drawn and the slack time for every activity is calculated such that the project's critical path could be found. It is important that the critical path can suggest the shortest possible completion time. On the other hand, PERT concerns on uncertainty and risk in a project. It has three time estimates, which are optimistic, pessimistic and most likely, and all the time estimates mentioned follows the beta distribution. Besides, the probability in completing the project within certain duration is calculated by using the standard normal distribution. As the risk cannot be avoided in a project, it is important to keep track on any changes and to minimize the completion time for a project. Both of the methods are used to calculate the shortest possible completion time, slack and critical path. The difference between these methods is CPM has only one determined time estimate, while PERT has three time estimates, which shows the uncertainty in the duration of an activity in a project. For illustration, the data used for the construction of a three-room house was studied. The results show that the minimum completion time for the project is 44 days with a success probability 0.91. In conclusion, CPM and PERT are practical tool in the project scheduling.

Project scheduling is one of the elements of planning outcomes, which can provide information about project schedules and project progress in terms of resource performance in terms of cost, labor, equipment and materials and project duration plan with time efficiency for project completion. Critical Path Method (CPM) and Project Evaluation Review Technic (PERT) are two project scheduling methods that use different approaches in the process. In making a project, the researcher assumes that the initial success of a project should begin with the planning and preparation of the correct phase and the systematic stage.

Traditional construction scheduling approaches have proved not to have the capacity to produce and make it easily and timely available the information needed for a latter effective and efficient construction control and execution reflected in a high Percentage of Planned Activities Completed. nD poses barriers and opportunities associated to big transformations which for example could lead to relegate traditional construction scheduling approaches like the CPM in which the critical path has become a bottleneck, a constraint of a project. The big change of working with a nD construction schedule can lead to lose less time on the critical path itself but exploiting this constraint and subordinating everything else to it. Most problems that impact the critical path do not occur on the critical path itself, then subordination is not a nicety, it is a must (Goldratt, 1997). Another big change is that using nD Modeling it is possible to alter the order in which the different level of detail schedules are developed for a construction project. Using nD and CAVT it is possible to develop first the more detailed schedule and then obtaining the master schedule grouping activities in this more detailed schedule. The master schedule can then be adjusted to project requirements and the detailed schedule reviewed in an iteratively process. This opposes to the way scheduling is carried out today in which the detailed schedule follows the master schedule development effort and rarely one goes back to review the master schedule deeply, but makes the maximum effort to adjust the detailed schedule to the master schedule. And finally a very important change is that Visualization, Planning, Analysis and Communication capabilities embedded in a new nD construction scheduling development process can improve the traditional scheduling process to the extent that this schedule could finally be used as a real production control mechanism that could lead to tackle problems proactively and re-schedule the project as necessary.

For finding the critical path in electrical circuit designs, a shortest-path search must be carried out. This paper introduces a new two-level shortest-path search algorithm specially adapted for parallelization. The proposed algorithm is based on a module-based partitioning algorithm and a shortest-path search parallelized for the usage on multi-core systems. Experimental results show the impact of this approach.
