This article analyses Netflix’s transnational business strategies disrupting such status quo by focusing, on one local example: Mexico. Literature on Netflix has identified some of the transnational strategies studied here, this article adds to the discussion the use of local elements to infiltrate the power hub of Hollywood. By using the holistic scope of Political Economy, this research presents an integrated examination of: (a) the structural conditions of the Mexican audiovisual system in which Netflix is immersed; (b) the tech company’s expansion strategies; (c) the case of the movie Roma as a pivot-like tactic to push forward different company goals. The automotive sector is one of the most important economically, it not only generates direct employment, but also provides jobs to the entire associated industry. Today, component manufacturers and suppliers face disruptive changes.... more

The automotive sector is one of the most important economically, it not only generates direct employment, but also provides jobs to the entire associated industry. Today, component manufacturers and suppliers face disruptive changes. Electronics, which plays a fundamental role in innovation, new companies and technological giants, who claim their place in the sector; and the mentality of consumers, which opens towards other forms of mobility are some of the irruptions to which face. This article reviews the current literature and exposes the situation that the automotive sector is going through. Component suppliers that have not yet taken the step towards mechatronics or that lack high added value products will have to undergo an industrial regeneration, changing their design processes, if they want to remain competitive and continue in the sector. Twenty-two expert firefighting professionals were used in evaluating four methods for fire extinguisher hands-on training. Two different fire simulators were put into service along with two conditions for the fighting distance; keeping a distance of 2.44 m (8ft.) away from the base of the fire and having no restriction on getting closer to the fire. The fire simulators both utilized burned propane gas and modified air pressurized water extinguishers. Demographics data were gathered at the beginning of the study and participants completed a study form after each study conditions and at the end of the study. The participants are required to provide comments and suggestions as well. Results showed that participants preferred and recommended one simulator over the other for better simulating a real situation. Moreover, the participants reported that keeping a 2.44 m (8ft.) fighting distance is not realistic and maybe questionable as it is counter to proper use of extinguishers. Participants suggests adding smoke, sound and light effects to better simulate a real situation and improve training.

The Triple Alliance (Argentine, Brazil and Uruguay) war against Paraguay is rooted in the context of the Second Industrial Revolution. This evidence led many historians to suppose that it would certainly be a modern conflict, marked by technological innovations of the time such as: rifled muskets and artillery, balloons, telegraph, trench warfare. Nevertheless, such innovations have had a very shy impact than it was expected and that is because the allies, especially the brazilian army, were not as well as trained to get the most of it from their equipment, including portable weapons. Therefore, the goal is to explore through the analysis of memories of war (diaries, letters and reminiscences) and Official Reports from the Warfare Ministry to that extent such innovations from the industrial age were able to interfere on the result of the conflict. Bakery industry has no sufficient scientific research in order to support a real time decisional process of the managers who are most of the time also involved in the production process and all their knowledge is based on practical experience. Our purpose was to conduct an observatory analysis on Andana Pan Bakery from Baia Mare, Romania, and based on theoretical notions regarding the supply chain management was analysed step by step the production and distribution strategy and physical process. Our results indicate that bakery production and distribution is facing high challenges and high risks of low performance and profitability and a clear algorithm to correlate the distribution with production process and improve the distribution management, lowering the costs and increasing the profits would be a perfect tool for any small and medium size bakery

The study focused on the design and fabrication of a Gender-responsive Coconut Dehusking Machine (GRCDM). Descriptive and developmental research were employed in the study which involved design, fabrication, and evaluation of the output performance of the machine. A total of thirty (30) respondents operationally tested the machine and evaluated its ergonomics, functionality, adaptability, cost-effectiveness, and level of acceptability. The GRCDM is driven by a gasoline motor engine which drives the dehusking mechanism. It applies a speed reduction principle through the use of a belt and chain-sprocket assembly that links directly to the dehusking unit composed of two cylindrical rollers. The interaction of the rollers with its plurality of spikes and corrugated round bars served as a penetrating means which resulted in the tearing effect of the husk leaving the nut undamaged. The machine meets 95-100 % of the physical ergonomics requirements, 90-94% functional, 90-94% adaptable, 90-94 % cost effective and 95-100% acceptable with a drawback on the cost of the fabrication. The dehusking machine sets at a moderate speed of 21.40 rpm has a dehusking capacity of 559 nuts per hour and efficiency of 97.04% respectively. The energy requirements in terms of power and torque are 0.3165 kW and torque of 0.1332 kN-m. Dehusking capacity relative to the standard fuel consumption of the machine is 310 nuts/ li. Using the developed gender-responsive coconut dehusking machine, it can help novice farmers particularly women to be involved in the dehusking process to make work easier and safe.

This Study aimed to develop and validate Worktext in Drawing 2 for Technology students of College of Industrial Technology. It was conducted at University of Rizal System during the school year 2010-2011 with 50 first year BT students and 8 drafting professors as respondents. The study used the descriptive-experimental method to describe and evaluate the developed
Worktext in Drawing 2 using the questionnaire-checklist and test results in gathering data. A pretest and posttest was administered to the student users to determine the performance in Drawing 2 of the two groups of respondents. They were asked to evaluate the worktext through the following: subject matter, organization and presentation, language and style and style and usefulness. Responses
were tallied, tabulated and interpreted with the use of appropriate statistical treatment. The derived conclusions are as follows. Students exposed to the developed worktext in Drawing 2 performed better than the students taught without the use of the worktext. The developed worktext in Drawing 2 as instructional material is highly acceptable in teaching the subject. From the findings and conclusions presented, the study recommended the following: the developed worktext in Drawing 2 may be adopted for use by all Technology and Engineering students in different specializations, continuous revisions and modifications of the worktext may be done
to suit the learning styles, needs and abilities of the students and development of worktext, workbook and the same materials in other drawing/drafting areas may be developed.

An electrical wiring installation trainer provides the students' learning experience and appreciation of the subject and course and for the professors' demonstrations and evaluation of students' performance during laboratory time. This study utilized a developmental type of research. The trainer board was 48 inches by 48 inches by ¾ inch marine plywood. It was cost-effective, space-efficient and portable. It contained circuit breaker, plurality of utility boxes, a plurality of junction boxes, a plurality of single switches, plurality of three-way switches, plurality of convenience outlets, plurality of base plates, plurality of receptacles, a plurality of Light Emitting Diode (LED) Bulbs, plurality of flexi-hoses, and plurality of u-clamps. All the devices were totally exposed for easy installation and familiarization. It was equipped with a low current circuit breaker to facilitate safe operations and eliminate damages to all the devices. It was capable of handling a residential-like, commercial-like and industrial-like electrical wiring installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning. The electrical wiring installation trainer was operated at 220VAC (Volts-Alternating Current) power supply and supported with the instructional module in electrical wiring installation. Demonstration, interview and consultation with the faculty members of the College of Technology, Pangasinan State University (PSU) Lingayen Campus teaching Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) major in Electrical Technology, the said utility model can perform all the activities listed in the module in electrical wiring installation which is parallel to the actual building wiring installation. An electrical wiring installation trainer was granted an Industrial Design (ID) patent by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines while still waiting for subsequent formality examination report as a pending application for a Utility Model (UM) patent by the same office.

Industrialization of the Nigerian economy started with the establishment of fully integrated large-scale industries for rapid development of the sector. However, inability of the strategy to fast-track economic growth in Nigeria led to a shift to small-scale industries. As opposed to the complex and sophisticated nature of the former, the latter strategy is characterized by simple technology which available industrial infrastructure could readily support. A blend of the right choice of technology and strong economic fundamentals is imperative for a vibrant and robust manufacturing sub-sector. This paper estimates the impact of key macroeconomic indicators on manufacturing performance in Nigeria using the method of vector auto-regression (VAR). The study focused on the industrial strategy based on small-scale industrialization. The variance decomposition result shows that variations in manufacturing capacity utilization in Nigeria are largely driven by shocks to its lagged values. The result further shows strong positive impact of trade openness on manufacturing capacity utilization. The study therefore concludes that manufacturing performance in Nigeria is partly driven by shocks to own innovations and partly by trade policy shocks.

Competence in Mathematics is considerably an inevitable factor in the holistic development of a learner. Several studies reported different factors which lead to students' poor performance in this subject. This study generally aimed to assess the entry mathematics performance of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. Specifically, the study aimed to describe the student's profile, determine their attitudes and beliefs towards mathematics and impression to mathematics teachers towards their entry mathematics performance. It employed the descriptive research design involving eighty-seven Industrial Technology students. The findings revealed that the level of the entry mathematics performance of the students was good. It was disclosed that students have a moderately positive attitude and beliefs towards Mathematics and impressions to Mathematics teachers. Students who have shown positive attitude, beliefs and impressions to Math teachers tend to perform better. Considering the results of the study, effective strategies in teaching with meaningful intervention activities to develop positive attitudes and beliefs of the students are recommended. Thus, utilization of new innovations and technologies and integration of values formation shall be done in the teaching of mathematics to build positive attitudes and beliefs which yields to better performance and cope with the demand of IR 4.0.

The main goal of the current investigation was to use sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) and to compare its adsorption efficiency with Magnesol XL as synthetic adsorbents to regenerate the quality of fried sunflower oil. In addition, to evaluate the effect of water washing process on the quality of fried and fried – treated sunflower oil. The metal patterns of sugar cane bagasse ash and Magnesol XL were determined. Some physical and chemical properties non-fried, fried and fried–treated, sunflower oil were determined. Sunflower oil sample was heated at 180 ± 5 °C, then frozen French fries potato were fried every 30 min. during a continuous period of 20 h. Oil samples were taken every 4 h. The filter aids were added individually to the fried oil at levels 1, 2 and 3 % (w / v), then mechanically stirred for 60 min at 105 oC. This article makes a parametric study of cascade refrigeration systems with a low carbon footprint in tropical climates. An NH3/ CO 2 cascade refrigeration system is modelled, simulated under Engineering Equation Solver (EES) and the results are discussed. It is noted that the use of an internal heat exchanger in the R717/R744 cascade system reduces performance by 4.7%, whereas subcooling in both circuits increases the performance of the cascade systems by 16.50%. Exercise analysis of the cascade refrigeration system identified the temperature of-10°C as an optimal coupling temperature that allows for a low total irreversibility (i.e. a total irreversibility of 78.072 kW for a system with a cooling capacity of270 kW).The condenser and the compressor of the high temperature cell have been identified as the most critical components with a total irreversibility of 48%. Based on Total Equivalent Warning Impact (TEWI) calculation, 8 cascade refrigeration configurations are compared in the weather conditions of Benin (Cotonou). The natural refrigerants R717 and R600 seem to be suitable candidates in combination with CO2 for cascade systems. Furthermore, the refrigerant R717 (ammonia) appears to be a good choice to achieve high performance with a relatively low TEWI.

The main objective of this study was to develop competency standards for Industrial Technology graduates for employment in the construction industry in Region IV-A, Philippines. It specifically identified the basic and core competency standards for industrial technology and determined the degree of importance of competencies needed in the construction industry sector. The study identified 28 common competencies for three areas of specializations in industrial technology namely: electrical, civil and drafting technology. There were 39 core competencies for electrical, 31 for drafting and 38 items for civil technology. A total of 50 panel of experts were carefully selected using the purposive sampling as respondents in the study. Experts are selected based on their technical know-how or proficiency and currently practicing their line of profession in the construction industry. The study used the descriptive-developmental method of research. The Delphi technique was applied to determine if the competency under investigation reached the general agreement of opinions by the panel of experts involved. The findings implied that the newly developed competency standards were good input for curriculum enhancement in the area of civil, drafting and electrical technology. The study recommended the newly developed competencies may be followed by the faculty in the course they teach and the new competency items suggested by the panel of experts for inclusion in the curriculum for the three areas of specializations may be considered during the curriculum revision.

The effects of domestic and industrial cooking methods on the non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) content and in vitro starch digestibility of chick pea (variety “blanco lechoso”) have been studied. Total and soluble NSP increased, as did the slowly digestible starch (SDS), whereas the resistant starch (RS) fraction decreased after cooking, showing higher content in domestic than industrially cooked chick peas. The in vitro starch digestible rate index (SDRI) was similar in the cooked chick peas, as was the rapidly available glucose (RAG). Due to the low values of RAG, chick peas would give a slow post-prandial glycaemic response. Domestic cooked chick peas consumption would increase the intakes of RS in human diet, whereas the industrially cooked chick peas with lower content of RS would result in less flatulence problems.

Netflix, as a tech company, is currently the largest global streaming platform challenging traditional US studios. This article analyses Netflix’s transnational business strategies disrupting such status quo by focusing, on one local example: Mexico. Literature on Netflix has identified some of the transnational strategies studied here, this article adds to the discussion the use of local elements to infiltrate the power hub of Hollywood. By using the holistic scope of Political Economy, this research presents an integrated examination of: (a) the structural conditions of the Mexican audiovisual system in which Netflix is immersed; (b) the tech company’s expansion strategies; (c) the case of the movie Roma as a pivot-like tactic to push forward different company goals. The article argues that Netflix, by setting a new form of audiovisual circulation through innovation technology, has understood the key areas to break the audiovisual market value chain allowing it to gain global dominance.

El texto académico presenta el impacto positivo y negativo de la inteligencia artificial (IA) en el contexto educativo, médico y empresarial-laboral. Se utilizó información sobre sus técnicas en cada uno de los campos mencionados, destacando la participación de las partes interesadas; seres humanos. Por consiguiente, se expuso sus aplicaciones, dando la oportunidad de optimizar procesos con grandes beneficios; no obstante, existen repercusiones negativas en las partes interesadas como la sustitución y estrés laboral. Se concluyó que los sistemas con inteligencia artificial son instrumentos de asistencia para complementar las capacidades humanas, sin reemplazarlo totalmente. Se tuvo como limitación la escasez de información en español, debido a su alta demanda de desarrollo en los países potencia. Se obtuvo un exitoso trabajo.
