In this research paper, a cross-sectional study into the effects of formative quizzing in higher education and its relation to learning performance is presented. For the current study, six online Formative Quizzing modules, consisting of texts, graphics and video clips followed by two or more test questions to reiterate the material, were provided to students. Students could not earn marks and were free to use the material, but were informed that in the final examination, questions relating to the material would be asked. Data analysis showed that students who completed all six modules had a statistical significant higher chance to score better on the final examination. This was true for high achieving students, but also, and even stronger, for low achieving students. The results therefore show in this particular setup a potential causal relationship of online formative quizzing on learning performance in higher education.

On March 13th, 2020, in the middle of Semester 2, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona announced the suspension of classes for one month due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Within days most of the first- and second-year medical students were back in their homes around the Caribbean. Resumption of online teaching was scheduled for April 14th, 2020. This lecturer had been using a free online student response system (SRS) called Socrative to set quizzes for his small Lab tutorial group since 2016 and decided to upgrade to Socrative Pro which had multiple classrooms to set teaching quizzes for first- and second-year medical students. At the end of the semester (2020.S2) a survey was done of 86 second-year medical students. The overwhelmingly positive response of these students to these quizzes led to improvements and continuation of these quizzes.

Social conformity occurs when an individual changes their behaviour in line with the majority's expectations. Although social conformity has been investigated in small group settings, the effect of gender-of both the individual and the majority/minority-is not well understood in online settings. Here we systematically investigate the impact of groups' gender composition on social conformity in online settings. We use an online quiz in which participants submit their answers and confidence scores, both prior to and following the presentation of peer answers that are dynamically fabricated. Our results show an overall conformity rate of 39%, and a significant effect of gender that manifests in a number of ways: gender composition of the majority, the perceived nature of the question, participant gender, visual cues of the system, and final answer correctness. We conclude with a discussion on the implications of our findings in designing online group settings, accounting for the effects of gender on conformity.

Massive open online course (MOOC) platforms within the so-called xMOOC framework typically host quizzes, sometimes as part of the course assessment. Within our contribution we look at and describe quizzes and their results as a feedback for learners. Additionally, we describe current research on quizzes in MOOCs, especially from a learning analytics perspective. Building upon this, we explore data from a single MOOC (N = 1,484) from the Austrian MOOC platform iMooX.at where quizzes are used for final assessment but can be repeated up to five times within the course. The analysis of quiz activities shows a moderate correlation (r = 0,2765, N = 957) of the very first attempt with the final MOOC success.

The introduction of online elements to museums and cultural sites has opened up new ways for visitors to engage with the past, with nature, with culture, and all other treasures of the museum. However, docent training has lagged behind visitor-facing educational initiatives. By blending online elements into docent education programs, staff training can economize time and focus more on personal elements of interpretation. The article offers a case study of Fort Henry National Historic Site’s use of a Google Forms-based online quiz as a blended docent learning initiative, and then discusses three levels of efficiency offered by such blended docent learning.

This study investigated the differences in learners' performance and perceived engagement between three intervention groups in a Science class, using two types of pedagogical intervention: traditional instruction with paper-based quizzes and gamified instruction with gamified e-quizzes as formative assessments. With respect to the gamified instruction, three types of gamification applications were employed: Socrative, Quizizz, and iSpring Learn LMS. The effects of the instructional intervention (n ¼ 94), as well as evaluative feedback, were obtained with the aid of formative quizzes, post-questionnaire surveys, and personal interviews. The results showed that the employment of innovative gamified e-quiz applications (i.e., Socrative, Quizizz, and iSpring Learn LMS) and paper-based quizzes were effective in evaluating students' learning performance, particularly as formative assessment after completing each topic. Finding ways to apply games or game concepts in the classroom can be a promising and innovative tool for educators to engage their students in creative learning skills and attractive competition.

Presently, most platforms used on the selection of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) available online have various automated methods of assessment. These type of tools are based on applications that analyze the answers using a pre-correction algorithm. Most of these programs run several types of automatic assessment, but the possible use of the technology for each of them differs with respect to the kind of automation applied. The role of technology in the objective test for online education has become extremely common, so it can be found in various MOOC platforms with this type of questions or quizzes, because the assessment system can be fully computerized (from the test design to its correction and reporting). However, not all of the assessment instruments can be easily implemented in automatic mode with the use of technology. This paper seeks to research and clarify a type of assessment tool in which the use of technologies is quite low, namely, the essay question type and with...

Over the past few years, the usage of online learning has become the most standard and important part of learning practices among the graduating students. This is the basic tool used by both teachers and students. This website is developed promising the students and teachers involvement enabling distant learning is easy and possible. Our website uses new technologies to make the educating a better experience. There are many platform available online for the students to help them study and train them in their fields. But as of now, there is a few of other platform that help teachers keep the track of student's performances. This website consists of all of study material available for the computer science students. They can check their understanding of the specific subject as well as specific topic using the quiz provided on our website. When in doubt students can interact with the teachers and clarify their doubts. The website consists of the study material , quizzes to practice their knowledge , student-teacher interaction for the better understanding of the topic, peer-to-peer interaction for the better and healthy competition. This is a platform which not only helps the student to learn and prepare for their university exams but also helps them widen their horizon and helps them in participating in the competitive exams too. A platform where students can interact with their peers, teachers in order to share their views, opinions and doubts. A place where they can compete themselves for college academics and competitive exams using the percentile grading system. Usually it is seen that there is a wide gap of hands-on programming experience or knowledge among the graduating students. It is seen that they only have the placement required knowledge which affects them in long run. So, our motive is to build the web app which can help student boost their coding skill and master their programming knowledge which can help them compete in the competitive programming competitions throughout their life. Here, students can share their views on blogs which later can be evaluated by the teachers and they can share their opinions on them. There are several apis used here which can help students to practice coding. They can even compete among themselves for the better understanding of the concept and the different approach to the problem they might be unaware of and in this way they will have a better understanding of the topics. And after each problem statement students can evaluate their score based on their performance. I.

The questions in this section are based on the reasoning contained in brief statements or passages. For some questions, more than one of the choices could conceivably answer the question. However, you are to choose the best answer; that is, the response that most accurately and completely answers the question. You should not make assumptions that are by commonsense standards implausible, superfluous, or incompatible with the passage.

Moodle installations that are used to make assessments inevitably run the risk of being used to obtain fraudulent results by the students. Such fraud can be mitigated through the use of auditing tools that detect abnormal behaviour, but students continue to attempt to cheat the system despite the knowledge that these tools are active. This article presents a tool that blocks a range of behaviours which could be used by students fraudulently. This result is achieved by implementing access control to any Moodle deployment. The access control is based on the identity of the Moodle user, time and date, computer (or range of computers), and the Moodle resources that are being accessed. By integrating with Moodle, the tool is able to provide a finer level of access control than would be provided by traditional network access control devices such as firewalls. This increases the assurance that the results of Moodle driven exam assessments are accurate.

This survey study examines an assessment methodology through e-quizzes administered at a military vocational college and subsequent student perceptions in spring 2013 at the “Computer Networks” course. A total of 30 Computer Technologies and 261 Electronic and Communication Technologies students took three e-quizzes.
Data were gathered via an online questionnaire. A model derived from Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2) was proposed to examine perceptions about the eassessment
system. A structural equation modeling analysis employed to examine relationships among age, type of high school student graduated from, computer ownership, course grade, technological complexity, content of questions in online
quizzes, perceived usefulness and intention to use. Also, content analysis was performed on qualitative data. Results showed that perceptions about question contents significantly affected perceived usefulness. Perceived usefulness had great influence on behavioral intention – substantiating the TAM literature. Student perceptions were neither overly optimistic nor pessimistic qualitatively. All in all, students appear to require training about e-assessment to benefit from it. The overall implication is that to boost use of e-quizzes, it is imperative to help students recognize the e-quizzes are
useful for themselves.

This paper reports on the efficacy of a mobile learning intervention that combined ‘push notifications’ and game principles within a timed quiz app. An institutional interdisciplinary case study was conducted which compared rates of student retention and academic performance with their usage of a purpose-designed learning app. Leading up to lectures the app ‘pushed’ daily quizzes to students’ personal mobile devices and then rewarded them with feedback, points, badges and a position on a leaderboard. It was found that since the introduction of the app there was an increase in student retention rate of 12.23%, an increase in academic performance of 7.03% and a significant positive correlation of .40 between students’ scoring highly on the app and achieving higher academic grades. Conclusions are made in regards to what these findings mean for the future research into higher education learning enabled via mobile app technologies. More broadly, we discuss the implications of our findings in regards to the key higher education stakeholders: universities, educators and students.

Despite the growing interest in using online quizzes with Student Response System (SRS) for assessment, knowledge and empirical evidence about learner acceptance and risk of cheating are still limited in the literature. Hence, to address such gaps, this study explored Thai EFL learner acceptance and perceived risk of cheating of using Socrative for vocabulary tests. The participants (N = 461, 77.4% female, 22.6% male) attended a General English (GE) course that required them to learn fifty English words every week. The vocabulary tests took place in the first ten minutes of the class for ten weeks delivered by using Socrative. At the end of the course, this study investigated learner acceptance and perceived risk of cheating using a set of survey constructed based on Davis (1989) and collected the data of vocabulary learning outcomes and proficiency levels. The data were, then, analysed by using independent t-test, correlation, and multiple regression analyses. The results indicated Thai EFL learner acceptance of Socrative with the risk of cheating during vocabulary tests. Learner acceptance was influenced by proficiency level and predicted a small amount of learning outcomes. These results have some implications for instructional course designs adopting online quizzes for testing.

This paper seeks to research and clarify a type of assessment tool in which the use of technologies is quite low, namely, the essay question type and within them, the short answer question type or free text question type, using regular expressions. The large number of students who would be in MOOC prevents a teacher from assessing responses of thousands of students in a finite time without the aid of technology. This research analyzes the results of an MOOC from hundreds of students to verify that the use of regular expressions in an MOOC platform is not only recommended but also necessary.
