This study aims to examine the determinants of premarital sexual intercourse and its consequences to age at first marriage. Survival analysis were applied on the 2012 IDHS where 11% of them reported that they had premarital sexual intercourse. The prevalence rate of premarital sex based on married females and males aged 15-24 years is higher than the published prevalence rate based on unmarried ones. Premarital sexual intercourse is more likely among males, lower educated people, and rural residents. Females, more educated people and rural residents enter first marriage sooner following intercourse initiation than their corresponding counterparts. People who engage with premarital sexual intercourse enter first marriage later than their counterparts. The long time span to first marriage following premarital sexual intercourse initiation needs to be addressed and considered in the current policy which is to accommodate comprehensive sexual reproductive health (SRH) services to unmarried adolescents as their rights of SRH.

Objective: The present study aims to analyze the male-students’ premarital sex and to identify the drivers and challenges of observing chastity. Method: This applied research was conducted through a qualitative approach and with a phenomenological method. The statistical population was the male-students of Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, and 48 undergraduates of them were interviewed in a semi-structured way with a purposeful sampling method "with maximum diversity" and analyzed using the three-step coding method of Strauss and Corbin. Results: The expressions expressed by the participants were classified into 858 concepts, 62 categories, and 14 themes. Examining the lived experiences of the students, the findings of study, with some negligence, were divided into three parts: the reasons why they enter into an illegitimate relationship, the reasons why they leave an illegitimate relationship, and the reasons why they avoid an illegitimate relationship. The themes inferred in the first part include the religion of permissiveness, the decline of indigenous identity, the domination of sexual desires, psychological issues, the stimulating social media context, self-deception, and the unattainable dream of marriage, and the themes of the second part include orienting to spirituality, being zealous, and thinking about the consequences. The harmfulness of an illegitimate relationship, satisfaction of sexual desires through other ways, the lack of conditions for an illegitimate relationship, and the choice of chastity include the four themes of the third part. . Conclusion: The most important challenges of observing chastity, and the factors of entering into an illegitimate relationship (i.e. the barriers of chastity) are: ‘the sexual desire’, ‘the impossibility of its legitimate satisfaction, ‘the permissible and highbrow spirit’ and ‘the social and media stimulating atmosphere’; the main drivers of chastity in the this statistical population were faith, ‘still awake’ moral conscience, religious-moral family atmosphere, and social control.

One of the more vexing issues facing pastors today is the question of premarital sexual ethics. Simply put, we pastors are not quite certain how to counsel singles and teens regarding appropriate sexual boundaries. Of course, we clearly teach that sexual intercourse should be reserved for marriage. But beyond this, there is no consensus among evangelical clergy about where the boundaries should be drawn. If the pastoral community is unclear on this issue, it is little wonder that singles are likewise unclear. Given the present lack of consensus within the pastoral community, this essay will explore the New Testament’s sexual ethic with a view to constructing an objective, Christocentric sexual ethic for all premarital relationships. The essay concludes that fidelity to the trajectory and ethic of Scripture necessitates reserving any and all sexual activity for the marriage relationship. Or to state it again, the New Testament conveys—both theologically and exegetically—that all premarital relationships are to be completely non-sexual. Or one more time: premarital “making out” is a sin.

Recently, the concern about premarital sex around the world has increased dramatically. There have been substantial changes in the practice of premarital partnership among the youths and unmarried adults. Specifically, premarital sex has become the new norm or lifestyle in most societies and cultures. Nevertheless, most cultures view premarital sex activities as a potential threat towards subsequent marriage relationships and are likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects (Finer, 2007). Others assert that people who engage in sex before marriage are more prone to infidelity (Ogunsola, 2012). More recently, others argue that abstaining from sex before marriage is the only safe way that young adults can avoid unwanted pregnancies and diseases. Further, it can promote healthy marriage relationships, stability, and satisfaction in the future (Ogunsola, 2012). Cross-cultural psychologists have examined the cultural factors that influence sexual attitudes and behaviors. However, much of the current research has not fully addressed whether sexual attitudes and sexual behaviors are consistent across cultures (Christensen, 1960).

This paper adopted an ecological approach to study early marriage among
Eastern Visayan youth aged 15–24 years. Using data from the 2013 Young
Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study, we examined selected individual
characteristics and experiences as well as proximal and distal factors that
could be associated with whether the youth have never been in a marital
union, lived in before first formal marriage, or did not live in before formal
marriage. Bivariate analysis revealed that the respondents’ sex, age, attitude toward cohabitation, contraceptive use during premarital sex (PMS), parental living arrangement, primary raiser’s strictness, having same-sex friends with PMS experience, poverty, and perception of community acceptance of cohabitation were significantly related to their experience with early marriage. We also found no significant relationship between early marriage and the quality of the family relationship, discussion of sex at home, and education. Using marital union status (whether the youth had ever been married) as a dependent variable, we performed binary logistic regression and came up with three models starting with individual characteristics and experiences only
(Model 1) and eventually adding proximal (Model 2) and distal factors
(Model 3). Results show that previously significant variables such as attitude toward cohabitation and education turned out non-significant in the second and third models, respectively. We discuss the implications for research on early marriage as well as the need to come up with programs and policies for the youth if formal marriage is to remain the ideal marital setup.

The study investigated the moral implication of premarital sex among secondary school students in Anam, Anambra west local government area of Anambra state, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design guided the study. Population of the study is five hundred and twenty (520) students of senior secondary school year 2 from the 7 public schools in Anam community. Purposive sampling technique was employed to select 5 out of the 7 public secondary schools in Anam community for the study. A sample size of two hundred (200) students was selected for the study. The questionnaire was tested for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha method. Cronbach’s Alpha method was used to calculate for reliability coefficients, and the following were gotten: for factor that bring about premarital sex (0.695); for consequences of premarital sex (0.721); for students’ attitude towards premarital sex (0.847), and for moral implications of premarital sex (0.715). The study adopted Mean (X) as instrument for data analysis. Results revealed that factors which influence secondary school students’ premarital sex practices include: sustained pressure from peers and friends for sexual practices; poor parental and guardians’ upbringing among others. It was recommended among others that parents should endeavour to provide necessary support for their children in order to discourage commercial sex among in-school adolescents.

This study examines the meaning, causes of Pre-Marital Sex and its menace among in School youths in Atiba Local government Oyo, Oyo state. The objectives were; to identify the factors that can prompt the youth to engage in premarital sex. The study utilizes an empirical survey design. The sample population consists of one hundred and fifty students randomly drawn from the four selected secondary schools in oyo town. The instrument used to elicit information from the respondents was a questionnaires designed by the researcher. Data was collected and analyzed with simple percentage while the hypotheses stated were tested with percentage (%). The study revealed that consumption of alcohol and use of drug was considered as an activity which influenced by peers. Drinking alcohol was a significant predicator for youths to engage in premarital sex. This could be high risk factors for early initiation of sexual behaviour because of a specific reasoning process due to which young people cannot control themselves. Pre-marital sex among in school characterized with numerous factors. Majority of youths do not use a contraceptive during pre-marital sex, a good number of youths are defiled, leading to premarital sex, and that youths after pre-marital sex tend to have sex with anybody. In conclusion, sex education should be part of school curriculum in order to educate youths. Parents should develop effective communication skill with their children, be their friends and have positive attitudes. Vocational training, strict laws among others are the measures that can help to reduce the way youths engage in pre-marital sex. It was concluded that pre-marital sex was rampant among the youths which could be speeding up the spread of HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancy. Hence, require immediate responses.

Background: Sickle cell disease is a condition in which an individual inherit two abnormal haemoglobin genes from both parents βs/βs (HbSS) resulting in pathological state which is attributed to the sickling phenomenon, vaso-occlusion crises, infection and other complications. About 5% of the world’s population carries genes responsible for haemoglobinopathies and each year about 300 000 infants are born with major haemoglobin disorders including more than 200, 000 cases of sickle-cell disease in Africa. Sickle cell disease is a very common disorder in Nigeria with birth rate of about 1 in 50 and about 150,000 children are born annually with sickle cell anaemia in Nigeria alone. The study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of students attending the Federal College of Education, Kano about premarital screening for sickle cell disease. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted using interviewer-administered structured questionnaire among 305 students. Descriptive statistics of frequency count and percentages were used to describe the demographic data, while the non-parametric statistics of chi-square set at P = 0.05 level of significance were used to test the hypotheses that there is no significant difference in the attitude towards premarital sickle cell screening between students of different demographic backgrounds studying different programmes at Federal College of Education, Kano, Nigeria. Results: Forty-six percent of respondents had low knowledge of sickle cell disease, and 40 percent had negative attitude towards premarital sickle cell screening. The predictors of knowledge are program of study in which students are enrolled, religion and age (each P = 0.00), while those predictors for attitude towards premarital sickle cell screening include religion, knowledge of sickle cell disease and marital status, each at P = 0.00 at 95% level of significance. Conclusion: The students have poor knowledge and attitude towards sickle cell disease and premarital screening. The importance of health education as a keystone is necessary in improving knowledge and attitude towards premarital screening for sickle cell disease.

Nowadays, we can see a new form of relationships between males and females, called non-marital cohabitation (concubinage) that is known as”white marriage” in Journalistic literature and Speaking Some youth . It seems that such a new lifestyle emerges from most of the large metropolitan areas. We examine an understudied connection between religion and sexuality: beliefs about the reality of supernatural evil (Satan, hell, and demons). After controlling for multiple other aspects of religiosity, beliefs about religious evil remain a strong and consistent predictor of attitudes about issues involving sexuality, including abortion, homosexuality, premarital sex, extramarital sex, and pornography use. Further, the effects of religious service attendance on attitudes about sexuality are contingent upon beliefs about religious evil. Moral condemnation of non-traditional sexuality is significantly higher among regular religious participants who believe strongly in religious evil compared to actively religious people who disbelieve in religious evil, as well as compared to people who do not attend religious services. Beliefs about religious evil are therefore central to understanding the empirical connections between religion and support for conservative, traditional views of sexual morality.

The study deals with the issue of possible impact of television viewing on attitudes of adolescents to pre-marital sex, marriage and homosexual partnerships. The basis of the research was an assumption that due to apparent sexualization of television content, it is legitimate to querry how this may impact adolescents´ attitudes. As studying attitudes is rather complex, the author primarily focused on analyzing relationships between attitudes
and TV viewing, be it in terms of TV consumption or programme preferences. Secondary goal was to look at
other possible predictors of attitudes, such as religiousness of parents, parents´ attitudes, adolescents´ values and
their bondage to church. The results confirmed the impact of TV viewing on the attitude disapproving of pre-marital sex in such sense that the more TV viewing, the weaker negative attitude to pre-marital sex is. Other important predictors were found, e.g. religiousness of parents and their attitudes, conformity and adolescents´ bondage to church.
