The 1991 movie Thelma and Louise and its protagonists continue to be cultural icons for many women of all ages. With quotes, song lyrics, the metaphor of living on the edge from the film and collected wisdom from pedagogy, two religious educators reflect on their vocation and leadership in a dialogue that draws implications for the teaching ministry. The themes highlighted address friendship, the journey, risk-taking, awakening, turning points, and the choice to keep going no matter what. The authors believe that their friendship and co-creating dialogue offer their students hopeful models of leadership through their conversations about their vocations in ministry and higher education. Further, the way that they share ideas and experiences are good for their students and themselves.

Although globalization, through the communications revolution and international law, brings the promise of progressive social change, the concern of this paper is with the backlash against women's increasing emancipation, a backlash that is evidenced in the United States through making a mockery of women's bid for equality by turning the principles against some women whose lives are troubled while rewarding others. Meanwhile across the world the victimization of women, personal and cultural, is taking place in both democratic and totalitarian regimes. Two related forms of backlash are institutional and personal. That forces from the global market and the corporate media help fuel this backlash is a major contention of this paper. In our examination of the world's war against women, let us look first at how it is played out in a nation that has long touted women's equality. The guiding theoretical framework for the present paper is Susan Faludi's concept of backla...

This paper presents the findings of a qualitative research study into Coaches' experience of critical moments in the coaching relationship. Interviews were completed with a total of 28 experienced coaches. The research highlighted that critical moments are unforeseen and characterised by intense emotions and anxiety within the coaching relationship. These moments were most often seen to be turning points in

Recently, the piecewise linear representation (PLR) method has been applied to the stock market for pattern matching. As such, similar patterns can be retrieved from historical data and future prices of the stock can be predicted according to the patterns retrieved. In this paper, a different approach is taken by applying PLR to decompose historical data into different segments. As a result, temporary turning points (trough or peak) of the historical stock data can be detected and inputted to the backpropagation neural network (BPN) for supervised training of the model. After this, a new set of test data can trigger the model when a buy or sell point is detected by BPN. An intelligent PLR (IPLR) model is further developed by integrating the genetic algorithm with the PLR to iteratively improve the threshold value of the PLR. Thus, it further increases the profitability of the model. The proposed system is tested on three different types of stocks, i.e., uptrend, steady, and downtrend. The experimental results show that the IPLR approach can make significant amounts of profit on stocks with different variations. In conclusion, the proposed system is very effective and encouraging in that it predicts the future trading points of a specific stock.

Medically oriented psychotherapists typically record progress notes by articulating client symptoms, diagnoses, functional status, progress, and adherence to treatment plans. This orientation can challenge marriage and family therapists working from discursive or post-modern perspectives. Although there are discursive therapy friendly treatment planning guides, no published research on such practice exists. To address this gap the researchers conducted a recursive frame qualitative analysis of 206 de-identified progress notes from 30 completed cases seen by MFT master’s students learning discursive approaches to therapy in a university-based training clinic. Researchers found students noted problem to solution-focused discourse tipping or turning points in 20 cases with positive outcomes and no comparable shifts in 10 cases with negative or unclear outcomes.

Philip Salmon re-examines the place of the Reform Act of 1832 in English parliamentary history as a supposed turning point which averted revolution. Recent scholarship has shown that already before 1832 English radical traditions favoured popular constitutional reform over republicanism, and that changes to the electoral system were in practice not extensive after 1832. The analysis of pollbooks reveals, however, that the incidence of party-based voting was higher after the reform. The author explains how changes in the electoral laws, including those for local elections in the Municipal Corporations Act of 1835, altered the nature of electioneering. The new, more bureaucratic electoral laws on voter registration and qualification, on the manner of taking the poll, and on permitted election costs, all placed a premium on party organization for both local and national elections. The legal complexities led to the formation of local party associations to tackle them, as especially the registration of party supporters as voters required constant vigilance between elections. The adversarial system of registration was a key element in the rise of party-based voting in the 1830s. Confrontational electoral practices politicized the electorate for local as well as national contests, and so contributed to the advance of more persistent party allegiances at both levels. This constitutional realignment underpinned the growth of a more modern English representative democracy.
