Graphical user interfaces design in software development process focuses on maximizing usability and the user's experience, in order to make the interaction for users easy, flexible and efficient. In this paper, we propose an approach for evaluating the usability satisfaction degree of a web-based system. The proposed method has been accomplished in two phases and implemented on an airlines website as a case study. In the first phase, a website usability test is implemented by a number of users, and then the results obtained are translated into charts for a final web-based system evaluation in the second phase. The results achieved were satisfactory, since the places where the weaknesses and gaps in the website are identified and recommended solutions to avoid them are drawn. The authenticity of the results have been confirmed by comparing them with user opinions acquired from a questionnaire, which proves the precision in which the website is rated.

One of the questions that Heidegger presents in his paper, ‘Plato’s Doctrine on Truth’, is the distortion as he sees it of paideia—that is the loss of the essential elements in education. This loss is characterised according to Heidegger, by a misconception of Plato’s concept of teaching and learning. By undertaking an historical examination, Heidegger provides a means to rectify this loss. With reference to past, present and future philosophical perspectives of teaching and learning as particular spaces, an attempt is made in this paper to examine Heidegger’s reading of paideia within the context of online learning. This, for many contemporary writers on education, is an encounter with new literacies, new knowledge and the adoption of an online environment that challenges the hegemonic order of the institution as the purveyors of knowledge. Teachers within this new environment are, however still constituted as experts and their knowledge is seen as ultimately inviolate. Heidegger i...

Providing intubated patients admitted to the intensive care units with oral healthcare is one of the main tasks of nurses in order to prevent Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP). This study aimed at comparing the effects of two mouthwash solutions (echinacea and chlorhexidine) on the oral microbial flora of patients hospitalized in the intensive care units. In this clinical trial, 70 patients aged between18 and 65 years undergoing tracheal intubation through the mouth in three hospitals in Arak, were selected using simple random sampling and were randomly divided into two groups: the intervention group and the control group. The oral health checklist was used to collect the data (before and after the intervention). The samples were obtained from the orally intubated patients and were then cultured in selective media. Afterwards, the aerobic microbial growth was investigated in all culture media. The data were analyzed using SPSS software. The microbial flora in the echinacea group...

Abstract—The Internet and web applications are playing very important role in our today‘s modern day life. Several activities of our daily life like browsing, online shopping and booking of travel tickets are becoming easier by the use of web applications. Most of the web applications use the database as a back-end to store critical information such as user credentials, financial and payment information, company statistics etc. An SQL injection attack targets web applications that are database-driven. This is done by including portions of SQL statements in a web form entry field in an attempt to get the website to pass a newly formed rogue SQL command to the database. Multiple client side and server side vulnerabilities like SQL injection and cross site scripting are discovered and exploited by malicious users. The principle of basic SQL injection is to take advantage of insecure code on a system connected to the internet in order to pass commands directly to a database and to then ...

Aims: Mechanical ventilation is used for some infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) due to many physiological and clinical causes. Since these patients have endotracheal tubes, cleaning and keeping the airways open through suctioning should be done to increase oxygenation. This study aimed to evaluate effect of open and closed suctioning methods on respiratory parameters of infants undergoing mechanical ventilation. Materials and Methods: In this crossover clinical trial, 44 infants were selected among those undergone mechanical ventilation in NICU of Isfahan's Al-Zahra Hospital using convenience sampling method. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups. In the first group, open suctioning was carried out and after three hours of cleaning, closed suctioning was done. In the second group, closed suctioning was firstly done and following three hours of cleaning, open suctioning was implemented. Respiratory rate (RR) and percentage of arterial blood oxygen satur...

The main objective of this paper was to research the use of Web 2.0 techniques and freely available geospatial tools as a base for informa- tion-focused applications. The investigation was conducted, based on a prototype development of a project portal for the Fichtner Group. The methods adopted include; developing both server and client-sides of the application with Adobe Flex Builder. Toad for Oracle was used to administer and maintain the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). The server-side programming language was Java whilst ActionScript was used to create the client logic. MXML was used to describe the user interface and behaviour. The Application Programming Interface (API) used for developing the applica- tion was the Google MAP API for Flash (Flex). This Flex technology is not only applicable to the development of commercial web portals but can also be used to develop platforms for the purpose of disaster management, e-agriculture or to create awareness about the ...

Outbreaks of highly contagious animal diseases severely affect the global economy, seriously disrupting domestic economies and the international trade of livestock and animal commodities. Italy has a series of contingency plans for the management of outbreaks of all major animal diseases. Disease control measures are mainly based on a traditional approach and eradication policies range from culling and stamping-out to movement restrictions of animals and commodities. Given the marked terrain differences in Italy, the uneven distribution of farms and animal population, the presence of potential disease hotspots constituted by high-density clusters of farms and animals, etc., maps have always been a common working tool for the Italian veterinary services to identify location of premises, define the perimeter of the infected and control zones, etc. The Italian Ministry of Health has requested an integrated system for the management of veterinary emergencies. One of the main features of the system is an interactive, customisable and user-friendly Web-based geographic information system (GIS). The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise ‘G. Caporale’ has been entrusted with the development of a system that provides different administrative levels with a spatial decisional and management tool to assist them in case of epidemics. A Web-based GIS has been designed to integrate epidemiological information with the corresponding geographic component. The system works on a disease basis (disease-specific maps) for fifteen of the most contagious diseases and is accessible through the Web, allowing for real-time recording of new outbreaks

The current work explores the secondary school teachers' and students' perception on web-based discussions in teaching and learning and its potentiality to enhance students' performance in organic chemistry. A mixed approaches typically interviews and achievement tests were applied for collecting qualitative and quantitative data respectively for triangulation purpose. A total of 138 senior five students and 4 teachers were purposively selected from the two secondary schools at Kicukiro District in Kigali city, Rwanda. Discourse and interpretive approaches were used to analyze qualitative data, while t-test was used for analyzing quantitative data obtained from pre- and post-test scores. The results from this study revealed that applying web-based discussions is the teaching method that potentially and effectively enhances students' performance in organic chemistry with 0.10 learning gains and an effect size of 0.43 (df = 137 and p < .05). In addition, students an...

The emerging of the Web 2.0 (O'Reilly, 2005) has allowed users more interactivity with Web applications. Among the striking features of Web 2.0 applications, the use of rich interfaces that afford users a more meaningful experience with these applications stands out. In this context, the so-called Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) have transposed the boundaries of simple interfaces built only in HyperText Markup Language (HTML).

This paper makes three contributions: first, we suggest a clear, concise definition of Web 2.0, something that has eluded other authors, including the Tim O’Reilly the originator of the concept. Second, prior work has focused largely on the implications of Web 2.0 for producers of content, usually corporations or government agencies. This paper is one of the few analyses of Web 2.0 from the point of view of users. Third, we characterize the creative activity of Web 2.0 users. In addition to their active content production, they are unusually active users of the Internet for enter- tainment. In multivariate models predicting Web 2.0, the most consistently impor- tant variables are technical ability, comfort revealing personal data and, particularly, Web 2.0 confidence. These variables suggest that despite the apparent simplicity of FaceBook or of typing a book review on Amazon, ability remains very important in the eyes of users. For many, there appears to be something daunting about...

The research «Cinema, Diversity and Networks» tries to isolate the principal stimuli or reticences in the consumption of products generated by small cinematographies, analyzing the particular case of the diffusion through the digital interactive networks of cinematographic contents produced in Galicia. It is a multicentral investigation with the collaboration of the universities of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay – the countries with a significant migratory Galician presence, with special focus on the university groups of reception for their special predisposition to the media intercultural consumption. Our work addresses a statistical determination of the social-demographic and axiologic profile as well as the habits of consumption of the participant groups as an introduction to the confrontation with some representative films produced in Galicia between 2003 and 2008 in order to establish the influence of certain thematic, formal and linguistic variables in the acceptance or objecti...
