This study investigated emotional intelligence as correlates of productivity of librarians in Nigerian public universities. A correlational survey research design was adopted. The study population consisted of 1,254 librarians in public university libraries in Nigeria, from which 923 were selected using simple random sampling. The research instrument used was a self-developed questionnaire. The questionnaire validation was subjected to the scrutiny of the experts in the areas of the variables studied; it gave a reliability coefficient of 0.91 for Emotional Intelligence and 0.94 for Productivity. A response rate of 67.2% was achieved. Data were analysed using descriptive (percentage, mean, average mean and standard deviation) and inferential (Pearson Product Moment Correlation) statistics. The study revealed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and productivity (r = 0.032, P < 0.05) of librarians in public university libraries in Nigeria. The study concluded t...

This research aimed to explore the actual situation of information accessibility for university students with visual impairment at higher academic institutions of Lahore, Pakistan. This research adopted a qualitative research design using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) to investigate the proposed phenomenon. The participants were recruited with purposive sampling from higher academic institutions for data collection. Face to face interview of 15 visually impaired students was conducted using an interview guide. The participants were debriefed for data authentication and verification at the end. Each interview was transcribed and analyzed carefully using IPA. The results indicated that these students utilized interpersonal relationships as the primary source of their academic information. The other available facilities for information access included the internet, disability resources center (if available at the institution), and the university library. The major barr...

Public libraries have been changing over time. It is observed that these changes have been observed and reflected very slowly in Turkey. Since public libraries in Turkey are organized under the body of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and governed by the General Directorate of Libraries and Publications; all decisions regarding the administration of the public libraries have been taken by the General Directorate of Libraries and Publications. As a result, this management structure affects all library services in different geographic locations. Throughout the time, some projects have been conducted to improve the existing structure of the public libraries in Turkey and one of them is Librar-e Turkey Planning and Pilot Project (LT-PP). LT-PP was started in July 2013 and will last 28 months. LT-PP is trying to achieve improvements in terms of information and communication technologies infrastructure and computer-Internet literacy of both the staff and the users of public libraries. For this aim, 78 public libraries which are various in size and located in 26 provinces that statistically represent Turkey were selected. Within the scope of the LT-PP, public library staff have been trained by chosen experts about the use of information and communication technologies and advocacy activities.
In delivering public library services, library staff is one of the most considerable and effective element. Some recent studies have been reported the vision of public library staff and these studies differ significantly from one country to another since the needs of the countries and the perceptions of library staff in different countries may vary. Thus, with this study, current statements about the visions of public library staff in Turkey will be revealed. Data of this study will be obtained from the “Survey of Public Library Staff Vision,” and the findings of the study will help to identify the gap between the current status of library staff and the defined standards of future librarians. By this way, new roadmaps may be built to train the future librarians in Turkey and to design a capacity building action plan.

Purpose-This paper aims to share the activities of library services in the new-normal era. The paper describes libraries' circumstances since their reopening in early June 2020. Furthermore, it provides details on how libraries have adopted several most appropriate practices changing physical to online services. Design/methodology/approach-This paper describes various university library services in Indonesia in the new-normal era by using literature and documentary reviews as the approaches. The data were primarily collected from webpages, blogs, social media, newsletters and specific journals organized by university libraries. The survey was carried out by involving 126 university librarians incorporated in the University Libraries Forum. It highlighted the current conditions of university libraries and the most appropriate practices of library services in the new-normal era. Findings-The most appropriate practices of university library services in the new-normal era are provided. Libraries in Indonesia have experienced a service transformation implementing the COVID-19 health protocols. Likewise, almost all university library services became virtual. Accordingly, there were several challenges faced by librarians and users in carrying out virtual activities in the library. Originality/value-This paper provides a great value for libraries in responding to COVID-19 and those starting to reopen. It reveals the most appropriate library service practices and challenges in the new-normal era, which are useful for current and future insight development.

Like other disciplines, organizational and technological innovations have influenced the standard
philosophies of librarianship. These innovations have changed the basics of information retrieval and
delivery in libraries. As a result, library authorities are demanding competency-based job performance.
Nonetheless, there is a scarcity of research on the association between skills (current and needed) and job
performance (job satisfaction and organizational commitment). Further, there is a dearth of research on
the difference in skills of librarians. This research paper proposes a conceptual framework composed of
two major parts. Part one denotes empirical analysis of the relationship of current competencies with JP
aggregated as JS and OC. This relationship section may signify librarians’ perception of task performance;
part two examines the difference between the current and needed competencies. These different sections
explore the levels of deficit and surplus in competencies and job ‘best fit’. The findings of this conceptual
framework may be significant for the implementation of a competency-based management system, in updating
LIS curriculums, for designing librarians’ training programs and for LIS professionals as a whole
to perform more efficiently. Researchers from diverse settings can utilize the proposed model

This study was designed to investigate organizational culture and emotional intelligence as predictors of job performance among library personnel in Edo state, Nigeria. The survey research design was employed for the study with a population size of 181 library personnel in the 15 academic libraries under study, and due to the manageable population size, total enumeration was adopted as the sampling technique. The questionnaire was used to elicit data from the respondents. Of the 181 copies of the questionnaire administered, 163 copies were retrieved and found valid for analysis constituting a 90% response rate. Four research questions and four null hypotheses (tested at 0.05 level of significance) were formulated to guide the study. The tool used to analyze the research question was descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlation and multiple regression) for testing the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that there is a high level of job performance, good organizational culture, and high level of emotional intelligence among the personnel. Organizational culture and emotional intelligence jointly and significantly predict job performance of personnel. There is significant positive correlation between organizational culture and job performance. The linear combination of emotional intelligence and organizational culture predict job performance of library personnel in the academic libraries under study. The research concludes that there is a need for high job performance in libraries which is predicted by the organizational culture of the library and the level of emotional intelligence of the library personnel.

A 21st-century library’s strategy is positioned within a changing international context (Brundy, 2015). Knowledge creation is rapidly adapting and technological advances provide several new opportunities. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is intensifying the digitalisation of processes, products and services (Denning, 2018). Based on a case study at the Department of Library Services (DLS), University of Pretoria (UP), the main aim of this chapter is to demonstrate how the ‘Blue Ocean strategy and an adaptive leadership approach assisted in the identification of nine strategic focus areas to ensure a rapid response to emergent opportunities and changing user needs.
The ‘Blue Ocean strategy’, based on the book published by Kim and Mauborgne (2015), takes a reconstructionist view of strategy, which is built on the theory of endogenous growth. The authors argue that organisations should strive to avoid competition in existing industries (red oceans) and focus on innovation (blue oceans). The ‘Blue Ocean strategy offers a framework to guide leaders to build a strong people proposition by assisting them in mobilising the entire organisation to actualise a strategic move and successfully executing it in the logic of value innovation (Mi, 2015). To put the current case study in context, the following section will commence with an overview of the South African higher education environment. A brief literature review will provide background to the discussion of the case study. The chapter concludes with a few remarks on lessons learned and recommendations.

Two new trends in education: BYOD (bring your own device) and games and gamification are steadily being recognized and adopted by K12 and Higher Education practitioners. A team of faculty from two different countries, Bulgaria and the United States, is exploring the application of information and communication technologies in education. A jQuery-generated site for mobile devices is used by students to gamify their learning experience out of the classroom and in their professional field.
Students are using their mobile phones to access information through a mobile Web site and are expected to accomplish set of tasks, which reflect their knowledge of literature and procedures. Although Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as BlackBoard might offer mobile access, the stereotype of gamification with LMS remains bound to static students taking quiz on a desktop/laptop. A methodological change was sought from class-centered to experiential and project-oriented activities while the learning process is shifted from computer-based to mobile-based setting.
The goal is to establish if a dynamic and mobile access to information and feedback and switching from a lecture-based teaching style to a more constructivist approach of will encourage students to build knowledge on their own while pursuing a game-like activity out in their working field.
The growing affordability and access to the Internet, as well as the global penetration of mobile devices across all ages have transformed e-learning into m-learning (mobile learning). Pedagogy and methodology respectively are in a process of change. The traditional F2F (face-to-face) class is evolving into a hybrid classroom, a place where practices and achievements from e-learning and m-learning are increasingly absorbed and turned into a customary practice. There is a growing need to transform pedagogy from the traditional F2F classroom to learning and teaching practices reflecting student-centered, mobile-based, real-life, project-based environment with authentic, experiential and evidence based learning.

Productivity metrics provoke mixed responses from the research community. The Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) facilitates an open and clear data infrastructure to handle publication products. ORCID is a unique identifier that accepts data interoperability for funders, industries, and publishers by exploring indicators for research aspects that they aspire to evaluate instead of using current indicators because they are readily accessible. This manuscript examines the use of ORCID for publication metrics, grant applications, management and reporting platforms. The benefits of ORCID offer a quick way to promote and organize a researcher's work as well as to foster better communication among researchers.
