 Brazil’s planned reconstruction of the BR-319 (Manaus-Porto Velho) Highway
paralleling the Purus and Madeira rivers would give deforesters access to about half of
what remains of the country’s Amazon forest, and so is perhaps the most consequential
conservation issue for Brazil today.
 The highway route is essentially a lawless area today, and the lack of governance is a
critical issue in the battle over licensing the highway reconstruction project.
 The BR-319 upgrade would link the current “arc of deforestation” to central Amazonia,
allowing movement of deforestation actors to all forest locations with road links to
Manaus, while a planned BR-319 connecting road would open the vast forest area
between the BR-319 and the Peruvian border.
 The BR-319 Environmental Impact Assessment has many flaws, including ignoring
impacts beyond those adjacent to the highway. The EIA also contains passages
admitting to some disastrous project impacts.

Millennials are raised in a gadget-filled and highly networked marketing environment and received a great deal of attention from the marketers for being very optimistic and open to different digital products. Millennials look not for just products but a whole new customer experience while they shop online. The probability of winning millennial customer sentiment is logical if the marketer attempts behavioural marketing strategies through multiple online channels. Though there are many versions of the age group of millennials, they are dexterous in comprehending various interfaces and visual cues which enables the marketers reach out to them cost-effectively unlike interacting with Gen X and Y who need aggressive marketing communication. In this context, people-based personalised approach to attract the millennials becomes imperative as they demand a customized communication style. Moving from breaking the advertising clutter to popularizing a brand online, the marketers have come to a phase where they are forced to break the clutter to reconquer the millennial on digital podia. The paper involves the application of appropriate analytics-based statistical tools on primary data from the millennial samples to appreciate the effectiveness of such communication in establishing individual human connections on online selling e-marketers. Thus, based on 5000 twitters driven from Twitter platform a sentiment analytics results to explore that Amazon performed better than Flipkart during Big Billion Day Sales 2019 in India. For this text/opinion mining is performed on tweets extracted from on Tweeter platform. Further analysis also imbibed Fine-grained and Aspect based Sentiment Analysis along with Rule-based approach in sentiment analytics for better understanding of sentiments and emotions on online buying behaviour.

The present work had as a proposal to contribute to the discussion about the changes in land use practiced
by family farmers in a rural settlement in southeastern Pará, pointing out possibilities for rehabilitation
of degraded areas mapped from the integration with the tree component. In the study, a survey of
secondary data generated by the project was carried out: cartographic base and map of economicecological zoning of the southeastern state of Pará for the elaboration of thematic maps with the
Environmental Analysis and Cartographic Representation Laboratory (LARC) of the Middle Nucleus
Environment (NUMA) - Federal University of Pará (UFPA). Five maps of land use and observation of
vegetation were prepared in Belo Horizonte I PA, located in the municipality of São Domingos do
Araguaia in the state of Pará from 2004 to 2014. There was a predominance of degraded pasture areas,
driven by expansion and intensification of traditional livestock in the municipality. The activity has been
associated with forest suppression and the use of low technological level, which reflects in the
degradation of pasture areas. Despite the existing federal public policies and specific lines of credit that
can assist in the rehabilitation of degraded areas through the implementation of agroforestry systems, a
local public policy that encourages the implementation of these systems associated with technical
assistance work is still needed. An agroforestry development plan for the municipality could support the
rehabilitation of degraded areas, the integration of forest fragments and assist in the maintenance of
ecological processes essential for the maintenance of local biodiversity and ecosystem services.

After decades of civil war, the Colombian government has recently declared the Amazon as a model region for green growth and low carbon development. The Amazon Vision programme, launched by the Colombian government in 2016, seeks to contribute to forest conservation, climate mitigation, poverty reduction and peace building. The Amazon Vision fundamentally reframes the Colombian Amazon from a ‘narco frontier’ that needs to be liberated from guerrilla influence, organized crime and peasants destroying forests for coca cultivation, to a net CO2 sink with enormous potential for green growth and poverty reduction. Drawing on historical and empirical qualitative research in Guaviare and complemented by a quantitative land cover classification, this article builds on the concept of ‘green territoriality’ to investigate the extent to which the shift towards conservation affects property rights and the ability of indigenous groups and peasants to access land and natural resources. We illustrate how the reframing of peasants from protagonists of development and frontier expansion to villains, and of indigenous communities from underdeveloped forest dwellers to environmental guardians, has created land conflicts and affected the legitimacy of their respective property rights. In both cases, the Amazon Vision strengthens conservation policies and challenges existing land rights but also creates new windows of opportunity for the land claims of indigenous communities while reinforcing conceptualizations of social differentiation among dwellers of the Amazon.

Jeff Bezos is well known as a very rich man, and perhaps as the founder and CEO of Amazon. More revealing is the dynamic business model and strategy that has been the hallmark of his company’s success. Still more unknown is that instead of being the monopolist that he is often portrayed in the media and public imagination, he is a visionary, locked on target toward a futuristic age.

This paper focuses on the extensive urbanisation of the Eastern Amazon, where human settlements date back to an era when total cooperation existed between man and nature, a time when land, water, forest and people were perceived as inseparable parts of the whole. However, this harmonious situation has ceased to exist following several episodes of colonisation and modernisation. During the last initiative to integrate the region with the rest of the country, it was classified under the social divisions of Brazilian labour as agrarian and suitable for the mineral extraction industry. Furthermore, the recent overlap between the interests of privately owned global companies and federal investments in logistics, and of the pattern of Portuguese colonisation, has led to a process of hybrid urbanisation. The historical pattern of population dispersion has also suffered modifications whereby connections have been established that link previously isolated settlements to national centres and global metropolises. Such practices have acted against all current data on climate change and have disrespected nature and the environment to such an extent that selective modernization and its reverse, informal occupation, have increased the spread of deforestation, pollution, the siltation of rivers and the reduction of surface water volumes. This article demonstrates how these transformations have been responsible for the exclusion of those groups forced onto the margins of modernisation: people born in the region who depend on the biophysical base for their livelihood, including indigenous peoples, caboclos (the offspring of indigenous and Portuguese peoples), peasants and traditional communities who live in rural areas or were pushed into urban areas once the countryside had been restructured. The article also seeks to expose local resistance to this process, thereby revealing how extensive urbanisation may evolve from mere economic integration towards comprehensive urbanisation, capable of creating new forms of citizenship and a respect for nature, thereby transforming it into the extensive naturalisation of the urban.

In this research, we use the resource-based view to explore how creative workers leverage individual-level intangible resources to transition after a setback. Empirically, we match two complementary data sources: 1474 project failures by creative workers seeking capital on Kickstarter.com and post-failure market transitions by these individuals (i.e., published works on Amazon.com). Our results indicate that intangible human resources increase the likelihood and speed of post-failure transitions. We examine two moderating effects and find that intangible social resources strengthen this relationship, while intangible psychological resources weaken this relationship. These findings contribute to the emerging literature on creative work and transitioning after initial project failures. Moreover, resource-based view scholars have called for more research at the micro-level and in the early stages of resourcing. We therefore extend the resource-based view by considering the role of individual-level intangible resources at the earliest stages of creative development.

This is a brief case note on the Munich County Court's Judgment of 1 March 2018 (Case 12 O 730) which held that the Amazon Dash Button device violates EU consumer law on several counts. The case note analyzes the Court's line of argument and argues that EU consumer law in its existing form is not sufficiently technically neutral and not ready for display-less devices such as the Amazon Dash Button and voice-activated digital assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Home.

Concerns us in mapping an image production that extrapolates directions traditionally agreed to the term, thinking
another joint of image, incorporating it mainly to the territory of research in art in Pará. In this clip of the research
project we focus on the issues of modes of spatial image in exhibition environments in the Pará art circuit. Headed
a reading of a body that acts as an image that communicates and is an integral essence of these spaces. From
this perspective, we speak of a contemporary body that is increasingly infiltrated within the local production of

Corrida. Fronteira. Garimpo. ________________________________________ Abstract: This article is a theoretical reflection that seeks to use the notions of rush and frontier to understand the phenomenon of gold mining extraction in the Amazon, especially the small-scale mining. We approached current and past processes related to gold mining activity in the region, since the second half of the 20th century: the emergence of artisanal miners, the arrivals of mining companies and the socio-spatial transformations. In this article, we defend the hypothesis that the gold rush was a process that occurred in the Brazilian Amazon at the end of the 20th century and that the current migratory processes resulting from new discoveries are limited to specific outbreaks, of short duration or low population contingent. In addition, we conclude that the expansion of the mineral frontier was an important process in the organization and occupation of Amazonian space and that it is still active, in different stages and areas of the Amazon region, from illegal small-scale mining to the large transnational mining companies. As well, it is no longer restricted to the boundaries of the national territory, being a Pan-amazon phenomenon.

Focusing on the Amazonian borders allows us to discuss the beacons of great historical narratives. On the one hand, notions such as progress and backwardness have unfolded there in the formation of large estates, environmental degradation, slave or degrading labor, in a striking contrast between promise and fulfillment. On the other hand, the allegedly monocultural national history finds in its sociohistorical diversity a way of delegitimation. As Certeau (2008, p. 89) has already pointed out, boundary phenomena allow us to criticize totalizing models. Even within the Amazonian space there has been, in recent decades, the institutionalization of territories (indigenous and quilombola lands, extractive reserves, environmental conservation units ...) aiming at the preservation of nature and the so-called traditional peoples. It is the unfolding of a long history of struggles that were shaping intraregional boundaries that are still contested, threatened and boldly defended today (Wanderley, 2018). Indigenous, quilombola, riverside, urban Amazonia, among others, make up a mosaic that denies generalizing notions such as: green hell, empty space, problem region.

The work of Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto is both influential and controversial. His 2000 bestseller The Mystery of Capital posits that to solve poverty in the developing world, the poor need to transition from the extralegal sector to the official economy through formal property rights and incorporated businesses. In 2009, following the 2009 bloody clashes of indigenous peoples and law enforcement agents in the Peruvian Amazon, DeSoto suggested the extrapolation of The Mystery of Capital to the Amazon as a solution for their underdevelopment. He contended that the Amazon natives could only progress if granted formal title to land and allowed to create limited liability corporations. This paper argues, however, that the purported extrapolation of The Mystery of Capital’s propositions is problematic. It aims to show that economic integration of the Amazon natives may further expose their land resources to appropriation and, in actuality, trigger their cultural, social and environmental disintegration.

Nesse processo vimos surgir as

Traditional Amazonian medicine, and in particular the psychoactive substance ayahuasca, has generated significant research interest along with the recent revival of psychedelic medicine. Previously we published within-treatment quantitative results from a residential addiction treatment centre that predominately employs Peruvian traditional Amazonian medicine, and here we follow up that work with a qualitative study of within-treatment patient experiences. Open-ended interviews with 9 inpatients were conducted from 2014–2015, and later analysed using thematic analysis. Our findings support the possibility of therapeutic effects from Amazonian medicine, but also highlight the complexity of Amazonian medical practices, suggesting that the richness of such traditions should not be reduced to the use of ayahuasca only.

Since 2013, Brazil is the largest global exporter of soybeans, with volumes growing consistently over the years. The export increases placed pressure on the country’s port logistics, and the Northern Arc, by which the ports located in the north of the country are collectively known, presents itself as a viable and competitive solution for soybean producers in part of Mato Grosso, the largest grain producing region. The vigorous growth of the exports using the Northern Arc’s deep-sea river ports, which grew from 1.9 million tons in 2010, to 11.4 million tons in 2019, requires inland waterway transportation (IWT) to reach them. There are few grain transport operators from the Transhipment Facilities (TF), where the grain changes it’s transport mode from road transportation to IWT, in order to reach the deep-sea river ports that export soybeans. The region of Miritituba / PA concentrates the largest amount of TF and ships the largest volumes of soybeans to these ports, responsible for 59.6% of all grains exported through these ports in 2019. The costs of IWT are not publicly disclosed, and the models available to determine the costs do not consider the peculiarities and characteristics of the Amazon Region. This paper aims to fill a gap regarding specific models to determine the costs of transporting soybeans in barges on the IWT of the Amazon Region, which were not found in research. This is a contemporary case study with quantitative data with application in the area of knowledge in Operational Research (OR) to develop a mathematical model for the simulation of discrete event systems, reflecting a cost analysis. The objectives are to develop a model adapted to the characteristics of IWT logistics in the Northern Arc, identify the main factors critical to success that impact on the costs of river logistics, and study the combinations and how the variables relate to the respective freight costs according to the size of barge tows and destination. Additionally, it allows the IWT system users to better understand the cost composition and to negotiate the best prices, increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian soybean exports.

For vegetation on white sand in Amazonia, the topography, soil nutrients, level of the water table, and rainfall combine to result in distinct formations, each with a characteristic physiognomy and each with a rather distinct floristic composition and very distinct dominants. We describe the physiognomies and present the floristic composition of nine formations, based on intensive fieldwork in NW Acre state, Brazil, where on six sites we have documented 222 species; 170 of them are woody plants or trunked palms ≥5 cm diam. Herbaceous species are good indicators for some of the formations. Distribution patterns and habitat specialization can be difficult to interpret because they often require familiarity with the localities and local terminologies involved. Many of the species show disjunct distributions congruent with the occurrence of other white-sand areas in northern South America. The nine formations within Acre are strongly dissimilar, with only two pairwise comparisons showing >50 percent similarity. Comparison of the Acre white-sand flora with datasets from Peruvian and Central + Eastern Amazonia show striking differences in composition and in taxonomic dominance, with more than 95 percent dissimilarity. White-sand formations in Acre and elsewhere are gravely affected by expanding human settlement; little is known about the regeneration and recovery of the degraded white-sand habitats. This complex sector of Acre's biological diversity is still virtually unrepresented in conservation units anywhere in Brazil's part of southwestern Amazonia, so it should be made an immediate conservation priority.

NoSQL databases outperform the traditional RDBMS due to their faster retrieval of large volumes of data, scalability, and high performance. The need for these databases has been increasing in recent years because data collection is growing tremendously. Structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data storage is allowed in NoSQL, which is not possible in a traditional database. NoSQL needs to compensate with its security feature for its amazing functionalities of faster data access and large data storage. The main concern exists in sensitive information stored in the data. The need to protect this sensitive data is crucial for confidentiality and privacy problems. To understand the severity of preserving sensitive data, recognizing the security issues is important. These security issues, if not resolved, will cause data loss, unauthorized access, database crashes by hackers, and security breaches. This paper investigates the security issues common to the top twenty NoSQL databases of the following types: document, key-value, column, graph, objectoriented, and multi-model. The top twenty NoSQL databases studied were MongoDB,

Ants are ecologically dominant and have been used as valuable bio-indicators of environmental change or disturbance being used in monitoring inventories. However, the majority of inventories have concentrated on ground-dwelling ant fauna disregarding arboreal fauna. This paper aimed to list the ant species collected both on the ground and in the vegetation of the Parque Estadual do Cristalino, an important protected site in the center of the southern Amazon. Moreover, we compared the composition of the ground dwelling and vegetation foraging ants. Two hundred and three (203) species distributed among 23 genera and eight subfamilies were sampled, wherein 34 species had not yet been reported in the literature for Mato Grosso State. As expected, the abundance and richness of ants was higher on the ground than in the understory. Also, the composition of the ant assemblages was different between these habitats (with only 20% occurring in both) indicating that complementary methods which include arboreal and terrestrial ants are indicated for efficient inventory. This study provides an inventory of the arboreal and ground ant fauna contributing to the knowledge and conservation of Amazonian ant fauna.
