Nowadays in most industrialised countries women outperform men at all education levels but in the workplace they are under-paid and under-promoted. At the same time there is broad global consensus that gender equality is a fundamental human right and, in fact, is linked to a country’s overall economic performance. Although in Romania the status of women has improved considerably in recent years, differences between women and men in economic participation still persist. The aim of this paper is to answer the question: where do we stand today with regard to the gender gap in the economy? The research is based on official reports on gender inequality, data collected by the European Union, United Nations and World Economic Forum, legislation in force, and the most important and relevant studies in the literature, which all point to a continued gender gap in Romanian society.

The new global economy of the twenty-first century has transformed the economic, social, educational and political landscape in a profound and indelible manner. It is composed of a trilogy of interactive forces that include globalization, trade liberalization and the information technology and communications revolution. Globalization has melted national borders, free trade has enhanced economic integration and the information and communications revolution has made geography and time irrelevant. The role and functions of entrepreneurship in the new global economy have taken on added significance and face compounded challenges. We live in a challenging environment of rapidly changing economic events, where the private sector has become the most important engine of economic growth and the public sector has shrunk in importance and influence. Entrepreneurs are defining the new rules of engagement on the economic landscape as they come to grips with contemporary challenges and new opport...

This study examined the impact of the adoption of international accounting standards on the management performance of businesses listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange in Hungary. The financial data are taken from accounts published on the Budapest Stock Exchange and in the Hungarian Business Information database. The adoption decision model tested if the demand from internal performance evaluations is a factor in businesses decisions to adopt international accounting standards during the global financial crisis situations. The results show that those businesses which have adopted international standards achieved higher and statistically significant positive coefficients than those following local accounting rules. We found that larger firms (those with more leverage, higher market capitalization and substantial foreign sales) were more likely to have adopted international accounting standards. This suggests that the increase in the sensitivity of turnover to accounting performance p...

The Theory Z was invented by the American economist and management professor William Ouchi, following the X and Y theory by Douglas McGregor in the 1960s. The theory Z was introduced in the 1980s by William Ouchi as the Japanese consensus style. He argued that western organisations could learn from their Japanese counterparts. In 1981 William Ouchi, of Japanese heritage, wrote his book ‘Theory Z: How American Business can meet the Japanese Challenge’. According to Ouchi, the theory Z promotes stable employment, high productivity and high morality and employee satisfaction. The loyalty of employees is increased by offering them a job for life with a strong focus on employee well-being both on the job as well as in their private lives.
Theory Z represents a humanistic approach to management. Although it is based on Japanese management principles, it is not a pure form of Japanese management. Instead, Theory Z is a hybrid management approach combining Japanese management philosophies with U.S. culture. In addition, Theory Z breaks away from McGregor's Theory Y. Theory Y is a largely psychological perspective focusing on individual dyads of employer-employee relationships while Theory Z changes the level of analysis to the entire organization.
According to Professor Ouchi, Theory Z organizations exhibit a strong, homogeneous set of cultural values that are similar to clan cultures. The clan culture is characterized by homogeneity of values, beliefs, and objectives. Clan cultures emphasize complete socialization of members to achieve congruence of individual and group goals. Although Theory Z organizations exhibit characteristics of clan cultures, they retain some elements of bureaucratic hierarchies, such as formal authority relationships, performance evaluation, and some work specialization. Proponents of Theory Z suggest that the common cultural values should promote greater organizational commitment among employees.
This paper discusses Ouchi’s Theory Z and its relevance in comparative management.

Drawing on multiple theoretical perspectives, this paper develops an organizing framework that incorporates the antecedents and consequences associated with the choice of foreign market entry modes. The framework is then used to classify, review, and synthesize past empirical research and to identify major patterns and contradictions within and across the various research streams. Further, based on the review, the paper identifies key gaps in extant research and suggests several directions for future research

Comparative Analysis of Sports Clubs in Germany and Turkey :A New Approach to Structure and Function of the Sport Clubs in Turkey
"This study examines and compares sports clubs in
Germany and in Turkey and offers a new approach
for analyzing the formation of sports clubs in Turkey,
with respect to their structure, administration and
functionality in Turkey’s sports system. This study
has a phenomenological research design and utilizes
qualitative research methods. By using the purposeful
sampling methods, the study samples ten sports clubs
from Germany and from Turkey. After using semistructured
interview techniques, a “descriptive analysis”
method was applied to the obtained data. The findings
indicated some similarities and differences between
sports clubs in Germany and in Turkey. Similarities include
the legal status of clubs, their constitution, organisational
structure, some expenses, and some financial problems.
Differences include various cases; for example, there are clubs in Turkey that are subject to different kinds of
classification. Also, membership fees are not an efficent
resource of income in Turkey, there are problems with
provision of facilities, and there is a lack of support from
the government and independent sports organizations.
Finally, in this study researcher developed and put forth
some principles concerning the reconstruction of Turkish
sports clubs. Accordingly, it is claimed that the concepts
of the membership system and voluntarism need to be
developed in sports clubs. Furthermore, sports facilities
should be provided and easily accessible. The foundation
of autonomous local sport associations, regulation of the
laws with apply to sports clubs, and revision of the sports
system are also required."

Abstract Although the study of leadership is now a well-established field within management, most of the research to date has been Anglo-American in origin, and focused upon male traits and activities. Two areas thus need further research: firstly, the issue of female leadership (attitudes, traits, activities, strategies); and, second, the issue of leadership in developing countries. This paper addresses both needs by examining women's attitudes towards leadership in three developing countries.

Role means the function that is incumbent on an individual or group, or the part that such an individual or group has to play in a given situation (Collins, 1984). Nigerian creatives as implied in the titled are Nigerian professionals especially in the field of business/organisational management and administration and other related fields.
Nigerian professionals, in the context of this discussion, include external consultants, researchers, accountants, engineers, medical doctors, top-level public servants, top level managers in private organizations, managers of public corporations, academics and several other high-level professionals. In the words of Ogundele, Adebakin and Hassan (2016), for a research to be relevant to the purposes of this type of discourse, it must be scientific. However, this type of scientific investigation is most at times, empirical. This means that if the scientist believes something, he must somehow put his belief to a test outside himself. This is confirmed by Kerlinger in Ogundele, et al (2016) who states that "subjective belief must be checked against objective reality".
Consequently, matching the requirements of scientific research with definition of professionals, it is no doubt that Nigerian professionals play an important role in undertaking researches in comparative management.
This paper discuss the role play by Nigerian creatives in undertaking research in comparative management with the aid of literature review of various researches by Nigeria creatives in comparative management.

Published by Palgrave Macmillan, The Development of Managerial Culture examines the differences in underlying values and cultural distinctions in managerial cultures in Australia and Canada. Despite a similar history of British colonial origins in Australia and Canada and despite both countries receiving English, Scottish and Irish immigrants, differences in management culture can be attributed, in large part, to the impact of the influence of the greater numbers of Irish Catholic migrants to Australia. This book argues that Canada, lacking the "Irish factor" in its cultural and sociopolitical development, derived much of its business culture from British colonial traditions. The Development of Managerial Culture offers a valuable commentary on differences in attitudes to managerial culture and industrial relations in both Canada and Australia. However, it remains a comparative study of national character development as a whole, in order to provide necessary context and insight for readers.

This is the introduction to the RESEARCH HANDBOOK OF INTERNATIONAL AND COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVES ON DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT (Elgar Publishing) that finds its place in a series of volumes on international perspectives on equality and diversity management addressing the need to expand the study of equality and diversity management beyond the USA and to question basic assumptions inherent in these concepts as theorized in the USA. Contrary to the previous two volumes where each chapter focused on one country, in this volume each chapter provides a comparison of between 2 and 18 countries.

In the context of the 21 century, featured by swift dynamics of change and shifting concepts and paradigms, the concept of leadership also undergoes constant changes and adaptation to new demands and inquiries. The dramatic shift that occurred in school leadership worldwide in the context of the ICT reform and implementation brought about a need for an eclectic form of leadership, which can combine and wisely use various forms of leadership, with consideration for cultural varieties and variances, as well as for continuously changing demands. The principal-as-ICT-leader works in multiple administrative, managerial, organizational, and learning environments, which cross the boundaries of time, space, and disciplinary frameworks; all that poses new challenges, as well as a

Since their inception, the failure rate of customer relationship management (CRM) projects continues to be high. Using the "Miles and Snow" (1978) strategic typology, this paper advances a contingency framework to explain the failure rates and to better predict the success of CRM projects. The strategic typology perspective allows for the integration of firm strategic orientation, environmental factors, and customer characteristics for the development of a broad framework for understanding CRM success and failure. Several propositions are advanced for how internal and external factors can affect the success of CRM initiatives.

This paper examines FDI flows (1994-2004) from the EU (and for comparison from the USA and Japan) to two neighbouring regions: Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and South Mediterranean (MED) countries. The analysis provides circumstantial evidence that the intensification of FDI in CEE, following integration within the EU, has had no discernible dampening effect on FDI flows directed to MED countries. This hypothesis is confirmed in several empirical analyses. First, a random effect gravity regression for determinants of ...

This article seeks to modify and extend the Varieties of Capitalism (VofC) approach in a way that makes it possible for it to account for both within country diversity and the role which international factors play in shaping national patterns of participation. It does so by drawing on recent debates about the VofC approach in general and comparative corporate governance in particular. Both these literatures suggest the need for VofC analysis to adopt a less deterministic view of the role that institutions play in shaping social action, to focus more on the role of agency and interests, and to suggest the need to explore the interconnections between countries in more detail. The article uses this modified VofC framework to examine the extent to which it can help explain recent developments in two countries: the United Kingdom and Germany. It concludes by outlining suggestions for further research.
