Abstract: This study's primary purpose was to determine the relationship between leadership and the dependent variable organizational learning readiness at three locations of a small-size business enterprise in the Mid-Western United States. Surveys were acquired within an exploratory correlational research design and the results indicated leadership explained a large degree of the variance in the dependent variable. The results offer HRD practitioners targets for deficiency interventions within the systems and structures of small-size ...

Literature has long been used as a source for reading materials in English as a first language (L1). In recent years, there has been a growing interest in utilizing literature in second language (L2) classrooms. The present article assumes that using literature in L2 reading can have the same effect as in L1. Integrating literature into L2 learning can create a learning environment that will provide comprehensible input and a low affective filter. Literary texts may be used in both extensive and intensive reading. Use of different literary genres is discussed with a special focus on the benefits of using stories.

In this paper we articulate an alternative approach to look at video games and learning to become a creator and contributor in the digital culture. Previous discussions have focused mostly on playing games and learning. Here, we discuss game making approaches and their benefits for illuminating game preferences and learning both software design and other academic content. We report on an ongoing ethnographic study that documents youth producing video games in a community design studio. We illustrate how video game making can provide a context for addressing issues of participation, transparency and ethics. Author Keywords

This deliverable has been produced in the context of the Knowledge-Practice Laboratory (KPLab) project, which is aimed at facilitating innovative practices of working with knowledge in higher education, teacher training, and professional networks. This delverable is a synopsis of the first experiences encountered during the first 6 months of the work in WP10. WP10 focused on tools and practices where elicitation, capturing and creating knowledge in different representational modes aims to making them available for problem solving and collaborative knowledge advancement in professional networks. During the first 6 months the emphasis of work has been on the state-of-the-art research, organizing and negotiating the empirical cases with professional organizations and on the coevolutionary process of defining the requirements of KP-Lab tools and practices. State-ofthe- art research has concentrated on how In WP 10 we have started to refine the research approaches as there were no ready ...

This study is established to better understand the requirements of radio frequency (RF) laboratories based on the electrical engineers' and technicians' perspectives working in this field. In that context, the study is conducted with the electrical engineering (EE) and the technical colleges (TC) graduates. Here, EE covers the Bachelor of Science (BS) and the Master of Science (MS) level of education in electrical engineering while TC represents the vocational education and training as well as technical and associative educations prior to ...

Calculia is considered to be the ability of performing arithmetic operations, the preconditions for the development of mathematical skills in the complex functioning of psychological functions represented in neuro-anatomical systems, as well in the interaction with the environment. Problems in acquiring arithmetic skills can be described as difficulties in counting as well as developmental dyscalculia. Reported prevalence rate for this problem in general population is 6%-10%. The most common difficulties in counting are: difficulties in logic, difficulties in planning, perseverance of inappropriate (responses) procedures and poor understanding of arithmetic operations. This paper aims to identify the influence of assessed arithmetic skills and to clarify to what extent the assessed cognitive skills affect each other in children with difficulties in counting. The relations between the level of working memory and acquiring of arithmetic skills, between the attention and the conceptual...

The purpose of this action research study was to restructure and implement an effective middle school advisory model. This was conducted at a Middle School in Painesville Township, Ohio consisting of approximately 800 students. In order to meet Adequate Yearly Progress and adapt to the changes of the 21 st century, a way to help the school progress was recognized by restructuring the 25 minute advisory period. An affective-academic-housekeeping program was applied with the idea of shifting from a heavily social-emotional focus during the first semester to a heavily academic focus during the second. A sample was selected, known as the experimental group, consisting of 250 sixth and seventh grade students. There was a comparison made to a control group within the same school. The study showed positive impacts on attitude, behavior, attendance and academic success.

Abstract: This study sought to determine the relationship between four independent variables educational level, longevity, gender, type of enterprise, and the dependent variable respondents' perception of culture toward organizational learning readiness. An exploratory correlational research design was employed to survey 498 employees in seven small business enterprises in the southern and Midwestern United States. The results indicated a large portion of the variance in the dependent variable was explained by the ...

Children’s social and emotional competence varies with their age and developmental stage, and also according to the sociocultural expectations, values and norms of their whanāu and community. As the expression of emotions varies across cultures, and as different groups use different repertoires of strategies for conflict resolution, children’s social and emotional competence primarily involves adapting to a particular social group’s ways of acting. This means there is no single model of appropriate social and emotional behaviour.

The concept of managers assuming developmental roles such as coaches and learning facilitators has gained considerable attention in recent years as organizations seek to leverage learning by creating infrastructures that foster employee learning and development. Despite the increased focus on coaching, the literature base remains atheoretical. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to compare the empirical findings from three separate studies to derive a comprehensive understanding of coaching models of management and leadership.

The article analyses the gender effects on student achievement at University of Genova and it is a part of the research performed by the University of Genova called “Benchmarks interfaculty students: Development of a gender perspective to find strategies to understand what leads students to success in their studies”, financed by the Regional Office for Equality Gender and included in the IRIS (Indicatore di Rendimento Interfacoltà Studenti (Interfaculty Students ’ Performance Indicator)) study, the survey implemented by the University of Genova since the AY (academic year) 2004/2005 to monitor student achievement at university. The aim of the article is to investigate students ’ achievements in higher education from a gender perspective through the interfaculty indicator of student achievement of the University of Genova, called IRIS. A secondary data analysis was undertaken with a quantitative approach to study the success of first-year students of the University of Genova in the A...

R. Inglehart (1990, 2005) considers values to be one's reactions to changes in the environment. According to his approach values develop in the socialisation process. Values can be divided into traditional, modernist and postmodernist. According to Rokeach (1973), values are an element of culture, an image of the desirable that might not be directly expressed in human behaviour. Kalmus and Vihalemm (2004) found, based on Rokeach's and Schwartz's (1992) questionnaires, that Estonians consider most important values to be health, strong family ties, peace in the world, clean environment, happiness and state security. Also, the results of the study "infants' and toddlers' intelligence and the impact of the growth environment" financed by Estonian Science Foundation, allow to conclude that parents consider most important that children are healthy, happy and smart (Veisson, 2001). In the framework of the state financed project of Tallinn University "scho...
