Description: The Mn-dominant humite was originally labeled "leucophoenicite" (see Palace 1935) but it was later found that several of the “leucophoenicite” specimens contained alleghanyite or sonolite. Leucophoenicite and sonolite have been identified as inclusions in alleghanyite . Alleghanyite occurs both in the primary ore and in secondary vein assemblages in Franklin. The best preserved assemblage was described by Palace (1928) and reported by Dunn (1995): “veins up to 3 cm thick, associated with calcite, franklinite and sussexite. The bulk of this material is alleghanyite: it consists of massive alleghanyite which forms euhedral crystals on exposed surfaces. Leucophoenicite is also present, both as epitaxial overgrowths on the underlying alleghanyite, and as apparently randomly oriented euhedra, perhaps of a subsequent growth period.” Alleghanyite also occurs at Franklin as dull pink masses associated with franklinite, willemite and zincite ore, and as glassy pink crystals associated with leucophoenicite in veinlets. According to Dunn (1995) most of the preserved pink-colored material from Franklin is leucophoenicite.

Description: Acicular to long-prismatic, colourless crystals in fracture surface cavities traversing willemite-franklinite ore with esperite present. The type locality for larsenite is the Franklin MIne, not the Parker Shaft. Palache (1935) makes it clear: "Larsenite was first found in 1928 and, with the closely related, was described in papers by Palache, Bauer, and Berman (256, 259). The first specimens were found on the picking table at Franklin, and the mineral was afterwards located in the mine at the north end, 20 feet above the 400-foot level in top slice 1080."

Habit: commonly prismatic, although tabular crystals are known.
Colour: commonly some shade of pink, but violet-red and brownish-red hues are known.
Description: occurs in secondary veins and vuggy assemblages, both as massive material and as euhedral crystals. It has been found in several different mineral assemblages in these veins, and is also found in calcium-rich primary ore, hydroxyl-bearing ore assemblages, and recrystallized aggregates. In vein assemblages, leucophoenicite crystallizes late, commonly contemporaneously with willemite, the most commonly associated mineral. Crystals of leucophoenicite appear to be confined to open hydrothermal veins.

Description: The report of "svabite" by Charles Palache in Professional Paper 180 of the U. S. Geological survey was probably in error given its imprecision. Many subsequent Franklin specimens were labeled "svabite" in the succeeding half century. In 2012, specimens of arsenic-bearing apatite from the Franklin Mining District were chemically and spectrographically analyzed, using quantitativel techniques and some specimens were proven to be svabite. So far the only known verified svabite specimens from the district are the handful chemically analyzed by the Crimmins (2012)study. Newly labeled svabite specimens should be accompanied with documents suitable high F values to validate the identification.
