The study has used factor analysis for exploring various dimensions of barrier as well as weighted average method and other tests for selected measurement analyzes using SPSS-17 version for different statistics. Lean management represents a systematic approach used for identifying and eliminating waste and non-value added activities from different industries, including the textile industry. Even if the lean manufacturing concept has shown important results in continuous process industry, the textile industry represents a good area for implementing this methodology targeting as a main objective the action of eliminating waste, thus reducing costs and therefore, increasing productivity. Being a customer oriented process, the system has the ability to eliminate a significant part of waste from the Romanian textile industry. As a result, this is an incipient study aimed to present the benefits of implementing Lean Management in the Romanian textile industry, through its improvement tools, as well as presenting a theoretical economic impact for a textile company. The paper presents a new method that automates the process of extracting graphic information from reference images and integrating the data into patchwork garments design. The main stages of the transition from a 2D reference image to the 3D virtual and actual garment are proposed. The method was applied to model a women's coat based on a painting titled “Improvisation 4” by W.W. Kandinsky (1909). The possibilities of using computer graphic packages and computer-aided design (CAD) systems in patchwork garments design in relation to contemporary trends in apparel industry were shown.

The article presents the results of experimental computer modeling of various silhouette shapes of women's dresses to determine the possibilities of using the UV-unwrap technology in generating pattern blocks of historical clothing. By using an example of six dresses, a scheme and sequence of application of 3DSMax software commands for modifying the contours of the UV-maps to coincide with the contours of the dress details was developed. The scheme converts the UV-maps of women's clothing into a pattern block. The results are of significant importance for studying historical clothing through its 3D scans from the standpoint of engineering, digital exhibitions and analytical reconstruction.

Product quality is essential for textile and garment companies, and product diversity is also a critical concern. The variations in the garments ' production process are unacceptable, contributing to the appearance of defects, higher production costs, lower profit, and unsatisfied customers, respectively. Improving the level of quality for textile and clothing products is steadily increasing at global level. Due to the strength and competition of today's business climate, many major garment companies have been looking for ways to increase product quality. Lean Six Sigma approach can be applied by clothing companies to improve the quality of goods and operations, including production, reducing the number of mistakes and developing new products. Aiming to provide pertinent improvement proposals for the production process of a typical Romanian garment company, a research was conducted by applying the DMAIC process. Subsequent to the analysis of the company history, an evaluation of the production process was carried out and the causes that cause dysfunctionalities in the production cycle were identified. Finally, a series of improvements were proposed that would lead to the improvement of the activity in the company and generate a revival of this sector of activity.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the seam performance for commercially available 100% cotton plain woven fabric. The eminence of seam is characterized by strength of the seam, the elongation of seam and efficiency of the seam. Seam strength along with seam efficiency can contribute as important factor in determining the durability of a garment. Seam strength is related to the type of seam, the strength, efficiency of the seam and the seam density as well. Specifically, 100% cotton plain woven fabric was used for seam performance analysis because of its availability in market. Four different types of stitch structures along with three types of sewing threads like Ne 40 s /2, 50 s /2, and 60 s /2 were used. Seam strength and efficiency of plain woven fabric was changed consecutively with different stitch types in conjunction with increasing stitch density and more specifically, maximum seam strength and efficiency were observed at cotton plain woven fabric for four thread overlock stitch structure together with 12 stitches per inch rather than others. Seam that contains more stitches per inch illustrates more seam strength and efficiency.

This project assesses the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and the partial withdrawal of the European Union’s Everything but Arms trade arrangement on employment in Cambodia’s garment sector. These trade-related shocks or disruptions are analyzed in the political context of Cambodia’s authoritarian shift, as the country has no functioning political opposition and independent trade unions ability to promote workers’ rights has been compromised. As for the economic context, the report looks at Cambodia’s foothold in the global garment industry, which remains as an assembly platform of low-value added apparel. The research addresses this de-facto market specialization and the implications when considering changes in power dynamics between global buyers and manufacturers who are consolidating and transnationalizing their production networks.

Stitches and seams are two necessary basic constituent of structure of an apparel product. Seam strength and efficiency may depend on the thread type and stitch types for various fabrics. The apparel makers select stitch types and sewing threads without paying attention to their effect on the overall performance of the apparel being made. The threads must be tested to guarantee that they meet those standards before entering the International market to enable consumers assured of the quality of sewing threads in the market which will help the consumers achieve desired results from threads in terms of seam. In this project, twill fabric shows the maximum seam strength and plain fabric shows maximum seam efficiency. Seam efficiency of plain fabric is better than other fabrics at same sewing thread linear density because of more binding point in the plain fabric than other fabric. So it is said that plain fabric is suitable for all types of seam inside the seam strength and the efficiency. Based on the outcomes of the current study, it is recommended that apparel manufacturers should be more conscious about using appropriate thread types in the construction of apparels to ensure the quality full apparel products.

his study investigates and demonstrates the application of computer simulation for the design of a manufacturing process for t-shirt production in a virtual-reality environment. The focal constraint against the higher productivity is the difference in individual capacity which is the mode of improper line balancing and bottle check process. This study is based on an effective layout model where to hit upon the bottleneck process through benchmark capacity and led us to use balancing process using two separate concept of manufacturing processes- modular line and traditional system both together. The research shows that this balanced layout model has increased the efficiency by 9 % and labor productivity by 6 %.

Garments washing is a novel process to impart worn-out look, to modify the appearance and to improve the comfort ability of the garments. Bleach wash is used to fade the color of denim in a higher degree as well as bleach wash has effect on the physical and mechanical properties of the denim also. This paper presents the impact of bleach wash and subsequent softening treatment on 100% cotton denim dyed with indigo dye. Garments were washed using a bleach concentration of 10 g/l for 30 minutes in 50oC temperature and then softened using standard recipe. The physical, mechanical and color properties were analyzed in before wash, after desizing, after bleaching and after softening. The properties that were analyzed include hand feel, tensile strength, seam strength, fabric weight, stiffness, dimensional stability and color fading. Bleach washed and softened garments exhibit a great difference in the physical, mechanical and color properties than the unwashed garments.

The risk rating was depending upon the multiplication of severity and probability. The risk level has been divided in four categories low, medium, high and medium. Despite the importance today of global production networks (GPNs) in linking the international division of labour between the Global North and the Global South, the workers in such networks receive relatively little attention from those interested in the sociology of work. This study applies Glucksmann’s concept of “socio-economic formations of labour” to understand GPNs as an instituted economic process that helps perpetuate an uneven global capitalism, and reveals a specific configuration of macro- and micro-scale labour formations in China’s garment sector. We argue that labour agency is a productive factor negotiating GPNs while under the constraints of capital and management. Taking a bottom-up perspective, socio-economic factors are found to give China’s garment workers significant power in various forms which—to a certain extent—shapes the multi-layered structure of garment global production networks. Workers’ power is conceptualized by sociological tools in order to substantiate the concept of abstract labour.

The today's competitive advantage of ready-made garment industry depends on the ability to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of resource utilization. Ready-made garment industry has long historically adopted fewer technological and process advancement as compared to automotive, electronics and semiconductor industries. Simulation modeling of garment assembly line has attracted a number of researchers as one way for insightful analysis of the system behaviour and improving its performance. However, most of simulation studies have considered ill-defined experimental design which cannot fully explore the assembly line design alternatives and does not uncover the interaction effects of the input variables. Simulation metamodeling is an approach to assembly line design which has recently been of interest to researchers. However, its application in garment assembly line design has never been well explored. In this paper, simulation metamodeling of trouser assembly line with 72 operations was demonstrated. The linear regression metamodel technique with resolution-V design was used. The effects of five factors: bundle size, job release policy, task assignment pattern, machine number and helper number on throughput of the trouser assembly line were studied. An increase of the production throughput by 28.63% was achieved for the best factors' setting of the metamodel.

The study assessed the knowledge of dressmakers on darts in pattern making and garment designing. Specifically, the purpose of this research was to evaluate the knowledge of dressmakers' on darts and the application of dart principles (dart manipulation, adding fullness and contouring) in garment designing. Descriptive research design was employed for the study using 50 dress makers selected from three districts in the central region of Ghana. A semi-structured interview guide and an observation check list were the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were analysed with the help of descriptive statistics using the Predictive Analytical Software for windows version 22. The results indicated that the dressmakers studied knew what darts are and their purpose in garment design and construction, but lacked knowledge as to how to apply the principles of darts to achieve desired effects. It is recommended that the importance of darts with special reference to marking it out accurately is emphasized to dressmakers during workshops, seminars and general meetings that are organized by their association. Stakeholders in the garment industry especially those in academia could also organise workshops for garment makers to educate them on the appropriate use of darts in garment design and construction.

To create new designs for garments, it is specially used for ladies garments. It save fabric wastage and also use to remove excess fabric. Darts are needed to turn two-dimensional shapes into three-dimensional shapes and to fit clothes closely to the body.

Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating wastes (non-value added activities) through continuous improvement by conveying the product at the pull of the customer in pursuit of production. In a more basic term, more value with less work. Since lean manufacturing eliminates many of the problems associated with poor production scheduling and line balancing, lean manufacturing is particularly appropriate for companies that do not have ERP systems in place or do not have strong material requirements planning (MRP), production scheduling, or production allocation systems in place. This is particularly significant in Bangladesh, wheremany private Bangladeshi garment manufacturing companies are operating significantly below their potential capacity, or experiencing a high level of late-deliveries, due to problems with their current production scheduling and production management systems. Considering all those facts this paper provides a roadmap as well as a framework to those manufacturing companies who are really operating significantly below their potential capacity. In this work, the existing layouts were studied and then layouts are proposed to enhance the production system and Value Stream Mapping ( VSM ) is used as a basic lean manufacturing tool and some cellular manufacturing philosophies to find out the improved level of performance and productivity particularly in the garments section of Bangladesh. This sector became important in terms of generating employment, foreign exchange earnings and its contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Regardless Employees are the key source of competitive advantage for business organization, as innovative and committed workers can make dramatic changes in business performance and sustainability (Job satisfaction is such a tool that improves the motivation and commitment of workers which consequently leads to higher growth and productivity. Without satisfied employees, no organization can achieve their business target as unhappy workers will never work for progress and prosperity. On the other hand, job dissatisfaction raises worker’s voice and creates unrest Therefore, job satisfaction is essential to enhance peace and harmony at work place as well as to ensure higher productivity. Nevertheless, job fulfillment of RMG employees in Bangladesh tend to be decreasing at the moment time because of improper function practices including insufficient income, discrimination, unhealthy work place, frequent function accidents as well as hazards. The factory is consisted with some well-equipped departments and these are Knitting, Weaving, Dyeing, Washing and Garments Departments. The factory faces good competition from their competitors which motivates them to work harder to achieve their objectives and goals. The organization uses the multiple departmental bases and according to the management this base is the most appropriate.
While surveying the organization we found that the factory provides comfortable working conditions, friendly co-workers, efficient management and status and from the factory management part, they have made ensure the world class accommodation, amenities, services, facilities without any doubt.

This book provides a firm analytical base to discussions about injustice and the unequal distribution of gains from global production in the form of global monopsony capitalism. It utilizes the concept of reverse subsidies as the purchase of gendered labour and environmental services below their costs of production in garment value chains in India and other garment producing countries, such as Bangladesh and Cambodia. Environmental services, such as freshwater for garment manufacture and land for cotton production, are degraded by overuse and untreated waste disposal. The resulting higher profits from the low prices of garments are captured by global brands, using their monopsony position, with few buyers and myriad sellers, in the market. This book links the concept of reverse subsidies with those of injustice, inequality and sustainability in global production.

The current competitiveness of garment manufacturing industries is highly dependent on ability to improve efficiency and effectiveness of resource utilization through proper application of industrial engineering techniques such as line balancing and time study. However, very few apparel industries have comprehended industrial engineering function due to little knowledge on practical application of industrial engineering techniques. The present study aimed at balancing a trouser assembly line using the ranked positional weight technique to increase the line efficiency as well as minimize the number of workstations without violating the constraints: precedence relations, cycle time, and resource type. The empirical study was conducted at Southern Range Nyanza Limited (NYTIL) garment manufacturing facility to demonstrate the practical application of ranked positional weight line balancing technique. Results showed that ranked positional weight method is suitable only for assembly line balancing with no constraint on the resource. However, most complex garment assembly lines consist of a number of different machine types rendering ranked positional weight method practically ineffective for improving line efficiency of a complex garment assembly line. Therefore, profound line balancing using simulation-based optimization to improve the line efficiency of complex garment assembly line should be investigated. Digital printing method can be applied to fabric, paper ore ceramic, and is useful for many sectors, from fashion to marketing to interior design. Digital printing machines producers, have developed systems that will be an alternative to offset and other printing techniques and offer high quality, brighter and more colour possibilities at the desired speed, on the desired material and are more cost-effective. The big ore middle sized Turkiye's textile and press companies are pursuing digital machine industry developments and are using final technologies of them on production. In this study the prevalence of digital printing methods used in textile and printing industries of Turkiye were investigated and compared.
