The mass-customization trend as flexible production philosophy has been adopted by many industries as a reaction to the fast changing customer demand environment. In relation to that mixed-model production (MMP) is a possibility for increasing flexibility, especially in the assembly department. However, many apparel companies have failed in their transition from traditional manufacturing to new, flexible manufacturing, which makes it difficult for them to be selected as suppliers who are capable of MMP. In most of the studies that have been done before, the problem of supplier selection was based on productivity and cost as the main selection criteria. As an alternative solution this research presents a new group of criteria for supplier selection with respect to the goal of MMP. The methodology of com-bining the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) with the support of the commercial software package Expert Choice and cluster analysis (CA) is proposed in this study. The results obtain...

European Norm 13402-3 sets standards for clothes sizing designation. Depending on the kind of garment, between one to up to four anthropometric dimensions need to be considered in defining the clothing size system. According to the distribution of the anthropometric dimensions of a specific population, the quantity needed or proportion for the various clothes and garment size categories varies greatly. In order to develop a process that enables clothing distribution managers to foresee the relative proportion of each category size that is expected to be consumed, assuming a homogeneous appeal of the garments irrespective of their size, across the population, a set of considerations supported by mathematical calculations, need to be established. To this end, it must be noted that the combination of anthropometric dimensions, described by their Gaussian statistical parameters (mean and standard deviation) is mathematically feasible, as long as correlation factors between anthropometric dimensions are known for the population at hand (these may only be extracted from original data sets). The chapter proposes deploying correlation factors between anthropometric dimensions involved in the European clothes sizing standard, and presents a method for garments lot sizing for point of sale application, informed by the correlation factors, which may be retrieved from literature, and by the statistical parameters of the population (actual or inferred). The chapter demonstrates the approach presented for various clothing item types, including men shorts (sizing based on one anthropometric dimension) and women brassieres (sizing based on two anthropometric dimensions). The mathematical formulation presented and demonstrated in the chapter is systematized in examples solved by spreadsheet calculations and is intended to support the management of orders of garments by size at their point of sale considering the reduced cycle of fashion (about 3 months). The chapter also emphasizes that reporting of anthropometric data should consider not only the mean and standard deviation of individual dimensions as has been the common practice in the field of human factors and ergonomics, but should also be accompanied by correlation charts between the anthropometric dimensions, given reduced availability of this kind of data.

The weft straightener is an intricate product. But how to produce robust and durable products? Our hope is to produce weft straighteners, even though reasonable price, much reliable in many respects from the view point of customers. It is a product, not research. Photo-electric things, image processing cameras and other state-of-the-art technologies are accessible to everybody; however, the most important thing is who can simplify the system, minimize the cost and “Satisfy Customers!”

As in many other growth markets, though, good results are coming together with a fair amount of turmoil. Many changes are redefining environmental conditions and new challenges are creating significant turbulence for players in the industry at a global level (Ecole de Paris, 1998; Woman’s Wear Daily, 02-10-1998; Liberation, 03-06/07-1999). Our question in this paper is whether, in the face of such global trends, luxury goods companies have reacted and attempted to adapt. We are interested by changes and evolutions with an impact on organizational structures but also by the potential redefinition of managerial roles and competencies. [First paragraph]

This Preliminary Global Value Chain (GVC) Analysis assesses
the Bangladesh Apparel Industry from a GVC perspective to
understand the emerging trends, dynamics, opportunities and
challenges affecting the industry’s growth and competitiveness.
The apparel sector plays a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s overall
economy for contributing over 80% share in exports, driving the
services sector, and creating many manufacturing jobs, mostly
for women. In the last four decades, Bangladesh has achieved
remarkable progress with its integration in apparel GVC, despite
several setbacks, including the Multifiber Arrangement (MFA)
phase-out in 2005 and the Rana Plaza factory collapse in
2013. It is argued that the abundance of cheap labor and other
advantages, including preferential agreements, helped the
industry in reaping its competitive advantage.
With almost all major global apparel brands and retailers
sourcing from Bangladesh, its share of global apparel exports is
growing in all categories of products. However, with the rise of
new and more efficient competitors and growing technological
developments, Bangladesh needs to review its apparel sector
strategies to upgrade its apparel industry further and increase
its share in the global apparel export market.
Several upgrading trajectories can be applied to advance the
industry and improve its resilience, including (i) addressing
critical skills gaps through training programs is required to
enhance workers’ productivity and managerial capacity of midlevel talents; (ii) the Bangladesh apparel industry can increase
competitiveness through reducing lead times, faster technology
adoption, and environmentally friendly production process;
and (iii) a communications and policy advocacy campaign is
required to attract more investment in the sector and show the
industry’s ability in meeting the increased demand from global
brands. These upgrading strategies will help the Bangladesh
apparel industry improve its competitiveness, attract highquality investment, increase value-add and employment
in the economy, and achieve environmentally sustainable
development.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to produce an upper garment model for three-dimensional (3D) pattern making. This model will take into account ease allowance and silhouette, and will be used to propose a size-changing method. Design/methodology/approach – The authors used two real garment bodices with a surface suitable for pattern development. The garments were fitted to a designated dummy body and scanned. Using the scanned data, the authors made those upper garment basic models suitable for 3D pattern making. Using one model, the authors produced two bodice patterns, one with the original seam lines and the other with seam lines that differed from the original ones, and then compared them with the original jacket bodice. To construct garment models that were different in size from the basic model, the authors calculated multiplication factors of cross-sectional dimensions (in the front, back and lateral directions) between the basic garment and the actual garment shape wor...

Main aim is to create a method of virtual reconstruction of historical clothes. We applied 2D CAD, Clo3D, and CG tools to find the relationship between outline shape of skirt, properties and construction of garments and textile materials. We used contemporary fabrics which are similar to historical prototypes by changing physical and mechanical properties. New method includes 3D-to-2D flattening; finding the air gaps in "avatar-skirt" system; choosing textile materials and number of underskirt garments; generating of digital replica. The adequacy of historical prototypes to its virtual replica is full due to CAD, new developed modules, and data base.

The article presents the results of experimental computer modeling of various silhouette shapes of women's dresses to determine the possibilities of using the UV-unwrap technology in generating pattern blocks of historical clothing. By using an example of six dresses, a scheme and sequence of application of 3DSMax software commands for modifying the contours of the UV-maps to coincide with the contours of the dress details was developed. The scheme converts the UV-maps of women's clothing into a pattern block. The results are of significant importance for studying historical clothing through its 3D scans from the standpoint of engineering, digital exhibitions and analytical reconstruction.

The global Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on global garment supply chains, and the situation will get far worse before it gets better. As clothing outlets have been shut by lockdowns in developed market economies, sinking demand for apparel, brands and retailers have moved quickly to cancel or postpone production orders – refusing, in many cases, to pay for clothing their supplier factories have already produced. !e result has been the partial or complete shutdown of thousands of factories in producing countries. As a result, millions of factory workers have been sent home, o#en without legally-mandated pay or severance.

The case study presented here offers a lens through which to study Chinese brand development in the global marketplace, and sheds light on the ways in which brands and culture circulate and construct each other in global brand culture. Furthermore, we use these insights to argue for the development of Chinese brand culture into a strategic brand resource. This is not a simple matter of drawing upon a shared set of characteristics in all cases; rather Chinese brand culture reveals itself as a subtle and complex resource with a diversity of applications, impacts, and impressions.

Purpose
Virtual design of contemporary and historical clothes is a very intensive and developing area of science that can be considered as a bridge between costume heritage and modern way of its presentation by means of CAD. The purpose of this paper is to apply 2D and 3D existing CAD for virtual reconstruction of the very specific kind of women’s clothes such as a side-saddle riding habit (RH) used in 1875–1915.
Design/methodology/approach
The construction of RH was adapted to the aesthetic rules of the mentioned time, ergonomic posture of a woman sitting on a horse, surface of the horse’s body which the woman is sitting on. For the new method, the huge databases were obtained after analyzing the historical pattern manuals and features of pattern blocks used, possible postures of riding, construction of RH and converting it into virtual system “avatar – RH.” To reconstruct the side-saddle RH in virtual reality, the images dated 1887 and authentic pattern blocks were used. Special attention has been given to the topology of contacting areas existing between the sitting woman and “shaped” riding skirt and to the method of presenting it by means of special points combination.
Findings
The authors have developed a new method of virtual reconstruction of an RH that is based on automatic consideration of all joining elements such as “shaped” riding skirt, avatar and its ergonomic posture. The new approach allows reconstruction of the clothes in virtual reality in three ways: by using the real skirts, the historical pattern blocks or pictures.
Originality/value
The results obtained allow increased possibilities of virtual reconstruction and include in the list new objects of engineering achievements of the nineteenth century such as the side-saddle RH. This study should help researchers and practical specialists to recreate and save the historical treasure in a digital way.

This work wants to analyze the impact of communication on Brand Equity, by comparing a gendered and an ungendered type of advertising relative to a brand of children apparel. The idea of this work comes from the acknowledgement that, to the current situation, there is little research on the pro/cons of the usage of a type of communication alternative to the traditional one and free of gender stereotypes, and on its objective consequences on brand dimensions. The study was conducted using a posttest-only control group design: participants were randomly assigned to two groups, control and intervention, and were presented with two different stimuli (a gendered and a gender-neutral one). Convenience sampling has been adopted for this research and an online closeended response questionnaire was used for data gathering. A total of 152 responses were ultimately used in the study. The study challenges the argument that gender stereotypes are efficient tools to be used in communication to elicit a positive response and generate clearer brand associations in the viewer. The results showed how a gender-neutral type of communication has an overall positive effect on Brand Equity dimension, and how this result varies according to the age range of respondents, showing a substantial gap between Gen Z and elderly generations.

This project assesses the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and the partial withdrawal of the European Union’s Everything but Arms trade arrangement on employment in Cambodia’s garment sector. These trade-related shocks or disruptions are analyzed in the political context of Cambodia’s authoritarian shift, as the country has no functioning political opposition and independent trade unions ability to promote workers’ rights has been compromised. As for the economic context, the report looks at Cambodia’s foothold in the global garment industry, which remains as an assembly platform of low-value added apparel. The research addresses this de-facto market specialization and the implications when considering changes in power dynamics between global buyers and manufacturers who are consolidating and transnationalizing their production networks.

This analysis highlight that female consumers have adopted masculine values as a result of societal development towards equality between the genders, which is reflected in the current female fashion trends. Furthermore, the postmodern female consumers seek independence and uniqueness, which can be obtained through the unisex clothes, because it allows the wearer to individualize the clothes and, thus, communicate one’s personal identity. Additionally, male fashion consumers have developed along with the diminishing gender roles. Thus, it has become socially accepted for men to take an interest in their appearance, which has allowed the Metro sexual man to emerge. This has created a new male consumer who strives towards differentiation and authenticity.
