The intensifying speed-up of contemporary economic, social and political life troubles democratic theorists because they assume that democracy depends on patience. This article turns to Martin Luther King, Jr. to challenge democratic theory’s temporal bias. I argue that King demonstrates that impatience, too, is a democratic virtue. Building on impatient knowledge, democratic impatience aides in overcoming undemocratic legacies, fosters democratic subjectivity and agency, ensures political accountability, and creates a more inclusive practice of democratic belonging. I fur- thermore show that King reveals the temporal sophistication of democratic impatience, thereby contradicting the prevailing interpretation of self-defeating instantaneousness. In particular, democratic impatience’s temporal origins of centuries of injustice, human mortality, and the context of social acceleration provide a mature impetus for demo- cratic action. Moreover, democratic impatience persists over time. On the one hand, it does so because injustice persists. On the other hand, democratic impatience contains within itself a subordinate operational patience. In other words, democratic impatience is always already somewhat ‘patient.’ King’s democratic impatience therefore not only redresses democratic theory’s shortcomings, but it also generates a renewed sense of democratic possibility in our age, as democratic impatience is well suited to help us in redressing the crises and injustices deepened or generated by social acceleration.
"'Democracy and Leadership: On Pragmatism and Virtue' presents a theory of leadership drawing on insights from Plato’s Republic, while abandoning his authoritarianism in favor of John Dewey’s democratic thought. The book continues the... more

This essay provides an overview of Plato’s contribution to food ethics. Drawing on various Platonic dialogues, the discussion includes an analysis of the problem of gluttony and the correlate virtue of moderation, the diet of the Republic’s ideal city, and the harmonious order of the tripartite soul.

This paper compares two basic concepts of two outstanding players of philosophical world: Plato's moderation and Aristotle's temperance. Comparing occurs in two terms: the positions that both of them place their own concepts in human nature and among other virtues and the meaning of concepts according to them are different.

Though Plato's Euthydemus is usually interpreted as an unambiguous attempt to discredit the sophists' teaching methods, I argue that the dialogue defends the role sophists play in philosophic education. Read in its dramatic context, the dialogue reveals that sophists offer a low-stakes environment for the testing and development of an important political virtue: moderation. The sophist's classroom facilitates the cultivation of moderation by simulating the agonistic conditions of the assembly or courtroom, where many encounter temptations to bully others verbally. By arousing one's inner bully, the sophists expose the limits of one's moderation. While not sufficient for developing moderation, such self-revelations constitute a necessary part of the process even for a philosopher like Socrates. Ironically, by bringing out the worst in their students, the sophists unknowingly supply a protreptic to philosophy.

This article explores the effects on employees of co-operation and conflict in the workplace, outlining six workplace types. A survey of union representatives in the UK steel industry reveals evidence of co-operative industrial relations linked to some
superior terms and conditions, employee involvement and health and safety outcomes. However, it fails to find evidence that co-operative industrial relations are associated with
a broader HRM package of workplace restructuring, high performance work teams or job security provisions. Nor is any association revealed between co-operation and a greater
role for trade unions. These findings suggest workplace co-operation in this industry remains part of a traditional gainsharing package and an 'alliance of insiders' rather
than an HRM partnership or union incorporation. This raises broader questions about the ability of co-operation to deliver important aspects of organizational competitive advantage.

This chapter for Adam Goldwyn and James Nikopoulos ed. *Brill's Companion to Classical Reception in International Modernism and the Avant Garde* looks at Camus' philhellenism, arguing that it is both what shapes his thought, and makes it singular in the post-war French scene. In four parts, it looks at Camus' early "Greece of the flesh", rooted in his upbringing and education; Camus' critique of political messianisms or theologies, based in his appeal to classical mesure, and a moderate philosophical scepticism; Camus' "virtue ethics" and his critique of heroism, fidelity, and authenticity as ideals (as "secondary virtues") in particular; then Camus' cultivation of literature, "style," and philiosophical self-writing in the Carnets as a way of life.

In the era of networked affordances, misogynistic men’s groups have been rapidly growing and have contributed to several physical fatal attacks along with the propagation of gendered online harassment and e-bile. It is thus important to study the organisational structures and communication dynamics of these groups to provide insight into why they have been successful in recruiting members and how they further spread and normalise misogynistic beliefs. One such misogynistic group is MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way). This study seeks to understand the structure and content of discussion within the forum of the official MGTOW website. To do so, it undertakes a content analysis of comments (n=1012) inspired by Freelon’s (2010, 2015) multi- norm approach to studying online communication, which draws on the liberal individual, communitarian and deliberative models. It also assesses the broader patterns of commenting (n = 628,745) participation amongst users (n = 33,863). The results suggest that debates on the forum combine elements of each communicative approach and that this reflects a contradiction in their underlying ideology of separation and individualism. In addition, it was found that topics of conversation primarily focused on two topics: women (the majority of which unfold in a misogynistic way) and defining MGTOW – both as a collective identity and a personal journey.

Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (1877-1960) who was born in a family of practitioners of the Naqshabandi order known as a central figure of the cultural movement "Thullab Al-Nur" in Turkey. He grew up and worked at the end of the collapse of the Ottoman Caliphate and the early era of the Turkish Republic. One of Bediuzzaman's views which are interesting to study is about the concept of Sufism. Bediuzzaman poured his Sufism concept into his masterpiece work, the Risale-i Nur. By reviewing and analyzing Bediuzzaman's work and the opinions of experts about Bediuzzaman and his ideas, it can be concluded that Bediuzzaman developed his Sufism concept scientifically, contextually, easily applied, and inclusive. His concept of Sufism is the extraction of moderation values that are far from exclusive, extreme and textual. Bediuzzaman builds his argument by explaining it in a simple and easily understood way that reflects the teachings of moderate Islam.

When estimating moderating effects in partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), researchers can choose from a variety of approaches to model the influence of a moderator on a relationship between two constructs by generating different interaction terms. While prior research has evaluated the efficacy of these approaches in the context of PLS-SEM, the impact of different data treatment options on their performance in the context of standard PLS-SEM and consistent PLS-SEM (PLSc-SEM) is as yet unexplored. Our simulation study addresses these limitations and explores if the choice of approach and data treatment option has a pronounced impact on the methods’ parameter recovery. An empirical application substantiates these findings. Based on our results, we offer recommendations for researchers wishing to estimate moderating effects by means of PLS-SEM and PLSc-SEM.

Moderated mediation analysis assumes that the effect of a predictor on a dependent variable is mediated by one or more mediators and that the indirect paths in this mediation are moderated. Moderation can take place on the effect of the predictor on the mediators, or on the effect of the mediators on the dependent variable.
In this tutorial we will show how the R function “gemm” from the “rosetta” package can be used to do a moderated mediation analysis.

The objective of the undertaken study is to investigate the variables, which drive the behaviour towards the handling of social media networks including Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and Facebook. For this purpose, we have employed an extended technology acceptance model (ETAM) and collected the responses of 392 from the online-based survey. We have employed an SEM-based structural modelling approach through Smart-PLS and conditional process modelling to analyse the results. The outcomes of the study exhibited that the dimensions of ETAM model such as perceived playfulness (PP), and perceived ease of use (EU) of social media networks have a significant affirmative influence on perceived usefulness (PU). Moreover, the intention to use (IU) also has a significant affirmative impact on actual use (AU) of social media sites. However, advancement in technology (AT) has a cogent moderating influence amid intention to use, and actual use of social media networks. Finally, it is established the cogent mediation impact of trustworthiness in an association of the perceived usefulness (PU), and the intention to use (IU) social media through bootstrapping and normal theory methods. The results of this research recommended to the media and marketing managers of the industry to implicate the significant dimensions whilst they devise the marketing and communication strategies for their products and services.

The paper deals with the beginnings of the Greek ethical discourse in elegies of an archaic lyric poet Theognis of Megara. In the introduction author shortly discusses the question of origin and influence of the Theognidea. Then he gradually follows and interprets the occurrences of the expression “μηδὲν ἄγαν” (Nothing in excess), of the words σωφροσύνη (soundness of mind), σάοφρων (temperate), μέτρον (measure) and μέτριος (moderate), according to the problem of ἀρετή (excellence). On the basis of symposium description in the Theognidea and its functions, author shows the crucial social dimension of researched capabilities. He also tries to show how Theognis grasps the wisdom as a quality that has to be tried for and cared for. In the end author states that for Theognis the excellences such as wisdom, justice, sound mind and proper measure are conditio sine qua non for functioning of all social relations – from erotic relations through symposium to polis itself.
