This paper describes the dynamic behaviour of a doubly-fed induction machine, operating with wind turbine. The rotor circuit of the machine consists only of a generator-side converter working under abnormal condition at stator side (fault condition and voltage drop take place in transmission lines of the grid system). The induction machine model is based on the stationary reference frame and the control-unit model is based on the line-voltage oriented reference frame. The generator-side controller provides good decoupling between active and reactive power. A powerful MATLAB/SIMULINK was used for the simulation of the wind energy conversion system of a 4 kW wind generator. The simulation results of the generator side converter show that the speed, torque and the ϕ sin (power factor) can be regulated independently to match the reference signals. The effects of assumed abnormal condition in the grid system are discussed with regard to stator current and rotor current of the induction m...

In this research p- type thin films based on Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 compound were developed for radiation sensors. The films were grown by two physical vapor deposition methods, namely an electron gun and flash evaporation techniques. The parameters of the different processes were examined and compared in order to maximize the c axis preferred orientation of the film as well as its thermoelectric figure of merit. The crystal structure and Seebeck coefficient of these films were investigated at room temperature. The electrical conductivity and Hall coefficient were measured from 80 to 300 K. The results indicate a high c axis preferred orientation for the films developed by the electron gun technique accompanied by a power factor in the vicinity of 30 µW cm-1 K-2 at room temperature. When an infrared signal hits the sensor it is absorbed and causes a temperature gradient along the thermoelectric transducer, by that, a Seebeck voltage is generated. It is very important to use an extremely thin...

The Sub-Urban Services are the Backbone of Transportation System in Metro Cities of India. The riders expect comfortable journey from their Home to Workplace and vice versa. The Sub-Urban services are made up of Electrical Multiple Units which are driven by Squirrel Cage Induction Motors of lower Wattage. The Squirrel Cage Induction Motors work on low Power Factor, are noisy, prone to Vibrations and more bulky as compared to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor of the same Power ratings. Also Gate Turn-of Thyristors are currently used for the Converter System which is less efficient as compared to an Insulated Gate Bi-Polar Transistor Drive. The Drive System with Insulated Gate Bi-Polar Transistor as switches for Rectifier-Inverter System driving Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors as Traction Motors is proposed and simulated in this Paper

A new 3-phase buck-boost unity power factor rectifier consisting of a 3-phase bridge buck PFC rectifier and two boost dc-dc converters connected in series is proposed for an industrial application where two independent output voltages need to be controlled. This paper presents the proposed topology and the requirements for this application. The proposed and alternative topologies are briefly compared. Through this comparison, it is shown that the proposed topology offers the best solution in terms of simplicity and functionality. The operation of the new topology is described in detail and then the control strategy including PWM calculations to obtain the best performance is given. The validity of the theory and practicality of the new rectifier system is confirmed through simulation and experimental results obtained from a 5 kW prototype.

This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) design for the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC), an integration of series and shunt active filters to improve power quality in a power distribution system. The control strategy aims to regulate the load voltage and the source current to the desired references in spite of the existence of harmonic components in the supply voltage and the load current, possible sag or swell in the supply voltage, and non-unity power factor of the supply side. Kalman filters are used to extract the fundamental as well as the harmonic components abovementioned, which will then be used to formulate the desired references and regarded as measurable disturbances, respectively. Based on a state-space model developed for the UPQC, an MPC controller is designed. Simulation studies on a single-phase power distribution system are also presented to verify the performance.

Three-level NPC active-front-end three-phase (3LAFE) converters can be applied to high-power medium voltage applications, with 4-quadrant unity-power-factor operation, allowing a broad range for power conversion systems, such as decentralized energy distribution and utilization. Switching losses and network interaction limit the operation of 3LAFE high-power converters, especially when GTO-converters are used.

This paper focuses on I2R losses under nonsinusoidal conditions, mainly in cables and transformers. For this purpose, a mathematical development that takes in account the presence of harmonic components in the I2R losses calculation will be presented, so that the effects of the harmonic distortion in the power system components and consequently the impact on the power factor can be analyzed. Based on this study, a factor that evaluates the power quality performance in low voltage networks is presented. This factor is directly associated to the economical viability, once that it points when the losses minimization is interesting according to the cost/benefit ratio.

Transformers are important elements in the process of transmission and distribution of electricity. Transformer is one of the vital and costliest components of electrical industry. As large number of distribution transformers are installed over a wide area, monitoring and maintenance of these transformers is an important issue. Therefore this paper presents the system which monitor different parameters of distribution transformer and these data are continuously updated on to a webpage using IOT. If any abnormality occurs, the system sends alert messages to the concerned person and an electronic relay operates. As the inductive load increases there will be a decrease in power factor, therefore this system incorporates a power factor improvement mechanism by switching capacitor banks. The main objective of this project is to develop a system which will help the utilities in the protection of transformer and identify problems before any catastrophic failure.
