- October 7, 2006 – From Dave Meltzer @ WrestlingObserver.com: Vince McMahon did an interview on the WWE.com web site as a special Byte This show, both in and out (seeming to be more out) of character. He was really mostly in character in harassing Todd Grisham. He got mad when asked what it was like getting his face shoved into Big Show’s ass, saying that he had asked for intelligent questions. He pushed “The Marine” saying it’s an action-adventure movie that is an extension of what they do in the ring. He didn’t want to talk about Steve Austin’s movie, saying that’s not the one opening. McMahon ripped on the web site, which is an angle they are doing to build for changes. He said that Eric Bischoff, in his book, tried to re-write history. There’s some irony. He said using that WCW didn’t fit into Time Warner is just an excuse because they lost 85million,andsaid,“Thattakestalent.”Don’tworry,theXFLcomesup.Hesaidhealwaysputshisegoasideforwhatisgoodforbusiness.Funny,thepeoplewhoworkclosestwithhimsaytheopposite,citinghehiredBischoff.AndhemadethebestuseofBischofflong−termaswell.HesaidHoganbeingattheheadquarterswasreallyjustfilminganepisodeof“HoganKnowsBest.”HesaidAustinvs.Hogansoundsgreat,butisn’trealisticanddoesn’texpectittohappen.Laterhesaidthereisnowayitisgoingtohappen.HewasmixedaboutECW,sayingit’salongwayawayformwhatitcouldbe.Hesaidthecarwreckin−ringmatchesgetoldaftersixweeksandwantstopushthepersonalitiesmoreandoncethepersonalitiesgetover,it’llsucceed.McMahonsaidlosingKurtanglewasabithit,andsaidAngle’sdriveisalsohisdemise.Hesaidhe’sconcernedabouthishealthandthatAngleneverthinkslong−term,onlyaboutnow.Hesaidsomeofwhathappenedheconsidersconfidential,butwishesAnglewouldhavetakenalongtimeoffandthencomebacktoWWE.Hesaidhe’snotmadatAngleforhisdecision,buthethoughttheyhadanunderstandingthathewouldhealbeforecomingback,andcomebacktoWWE.McMahonsaidChrisBenoit’sreturnwouldbeabigthing.HecalledCrymeTymetheoppositeofaracistgimmick,andsaidyouhavetolaughatit.Hesaidhewasonlykiddingaboutputtinghisdaughter’sweddingonPPV.Hesaidhe’sproudoftheXFLanditwasagoodbusinessventure,blamingthemediaandtheNFLforitsdemise.AsyouwouldsaywithBischoff,that’saniceexcuseforlosing85 million, and said, “That takes talent.” Don’t worry, the XFL comes up. He said he always puts his ego aside for what is good for business. Funny, the people who work closest with him say the opposite, citing he hired Bischoff. And he made the best use of Bischoff long-term as well. He said Hogan being at the headquarters was really just filming an episode of “Hogan Knows Best.” He said Austin vs. Hogan sounds great, but isn’t realistic and doesn’t expect it to happen. Later he said there is no way it is going to happen. He was mixed about ECW, saying it’s a long way away form what it could be. He said the car wreck in-ring matches get old after six weeks and wants to push the personalities more and once the personalities get over, it’ll succeed. McMahon said losing Kurt angle was a bit hit, and said Angle’s drive is also his demise. He said he’s concerned about his health and that Angle never thinks long-term, only about now. He said some of what happened he considers confidential, but wishes Angle would have taken a long time off and then come back to WWE. He said he’s not mad at Angle for his decision, but he thought they had an understanding that he would heal before coming back, and come back to WWE. McMahon said Chris Benoit’s return would be a big thing. He called Cryme Tyme the opposite of a racist gimmick, and said you have to laugh at it. He said he was only kidding about putting his daughter’s wedding on PPV. He said he’s proud of the XFL and it was a good business venture, blaming the media and the NFL for its demise. As you would say with Bischoff, that’s a nice excuse for losing 85million,andsaid,“Thattakestalent.”Don’tworry,theXFLcomesup.Hesaidhealwaysputshisegoasideforwhatisgoodforbusiness.Funny,thepeoplewhoworkclosestwithhimsaytheopposite,citinghehiredBischoff.AndhemadethebestuseofBischofflong−termaswell.HesaidHoganbeingattheheadquarterswasreallyjustfilminganepisodeof“HoganKnowsBest.”HesaidAustinvs.Hogansoundsgreat,butisn’trealisticanddoesn’texpectittohappen.Laterhesaidthereisnowayitisgoingtohappen.HewasmixedaboutECW,sayingit’salongwayawayformwhatitcouldbe.Hesaidthecarwreckin−ringmatchesgetoldaftersixweeksandwantstopushthepersonalitiesmoreandoncethepersonalitiesgetover,it’llsucceed.McMahonsaidlosingKurtanglewasabithit,andsaidAngle’sdriveisalsohisdemise.Hesaidhe’sconcernedabouthishealthandthatAngleneverthinkslong−term,onlyaboutnow.Hesaidsomeofwhathappenedheconsidersconfidential,butwishesAnglewouldhavetakenalongtimeoffandthencomebacktoWWE.Hesaidhe’snotmadatAngleforhisdecision,buthethoughttheyhadanunderstandingthathewouldhealbeforecomingback,andcomebacktoWWE.McMahonsaidChrisBenoit’sreturnwouldbeabigthing.HecalledCrymeTymetheoppositeofaracistgimmick,andsaidyouhavetolaughatit.Hesaidhewasonlykiddingaboutputtinghisdaughter’sweddingonPPV.Hesaidhe’sproudoftheXFLanditwasagoodbusinessventure,blamingthemediaandtheNFLforitsdemise.AsyouwouldsaywithBischoff,that’saniceexcuseforlosing116 million in just three months – roughly the total WCW lost from 1988-2001 combined. He pushed the season opening. He said WWE’s biggest show of the year is not WrestleMania, but the December Tribute to the Troops show. He put over that he likes Benoit vs. Finlay matches. He said letting Angle go was a hard decision. He then went off on Grisham.

- Pepsi Center Double-Booking Controversy with the WWE On May 19th, 2009, Stan Kroenke double-booked the May 25th, 2009 date at the Pepsi Center between an already scheduled WWE wrestling event, Monday Night Raw, and a playoff game of his own Denver Nuggets against the Los Angeles Lakers. The WWE event had been booked back in August of 2008. Kroenke had tried to have the WWE hold the event on the evening of May 24th, 2009 which was a Sunday. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon refused this date citing that Monday night events had been aired on live TV for several years straight and that the date in question had been agreed upon 9 months prior. Kroenke was criticized by Mr. McMahon for not having faith that his team would reach that far in the playoffs. On May 20th, WWE moved Raw to the Staples Center in Los Angeles–coincidentally the home of the Nuggets playoff rivals, the Lakers. The WWE also moved the following night’s SmackDown/ECW taping (also previously scheduled for the Pepsi Center) to the Staples Center as well, in addition to rescheduling all WWE live events in the state of Colorado that the company had planned that weekend back to August. The WWE’s website then went onto say that Vince McMahon would call-out Kroenke on the episode of Raw in question, and later made public the “joint press release” that Kroneke had written for both him and McMahon had McMahon decided to hold Raw that Sunday night, thereby backing up WWE’s claims.
